Chapter 258: Chapter 258: From Deserted to Bustling (Part 2)
"You could have just said so. Why did you hit me?"
Jiang Fan wore a pained expression.
"This rascal deserved that. He never told me a thing."
"I only found out today."
The director shot him a fierce glare.
Jiang Fan blinked, looking innocently at everyone.
’It’s not like I wanted this. I really never expected things to turn out this way!’
"What are you staring at? Hurry up and give us a tour of the school."
"I have to admit, though, while this school can’t compare to those major schools, it’s still quite decent."
"It should be able to hold a few thousand students, at least, right?"
"The entire orphanage only has so many children. You need to shoulder this responsibility."
"As long as you can shoulder this responsibility, I guarantee that no one in Yang City will dare to give you any trouble in the future."
Li Jiaxiang’s pointed remark made Jiang Fan’s eyes light up.
’This was basically a get-out-of-jail-free card.’
’It was up to him to seize this opportunity.’
"Don’t worry, I’ll definitely handle it well. We’ve actually had plans for this for a while. We want to bring all the children from the surrounding orphanages here to the school."
"We have plenty of dormitory buildings, and the campus is huge. It can definitely accommodate them."
"It’s just the issue of funding. I’ll need to carefully figure that out."
Jiang Fan said as they walked.
Li Jiaxiang hadn’t let go of the director’s hand the entire time they were walking, acting just like a devoted junior.
"As for the funding, you’ll have to think of some solutions yourself. I can look into any relevant government policies later."
"If there are any, I’m sure our subsidies and aid won’t shortchange you."
Even though Li Jiaxiang said that, Jiang Fan couldn’t help but feel uncertain. Besides, as he spoke, he kept glancing over at Li Qian’Er.
He hadn’t been counting on any government subsidies from the start, anyway.
’But who would say no to free money?’
"Auntie, Qianqian is such a beautiful girl. She’s been at the orphanage all these years, hasn’t she?"
Li Jiaxiang’s gaze toward Li Qian’Er was filled with an irrepressible emotion.
"These years have been hard on the child. She’s been holding up the orphanage with me all this time."
"It’s okay, Grandma. It’s not a hardship. This is what I wanted to do."
Li Qian’Er said with a smile, hugging the director’s arm.
"Now that Jiang Fan and Jun Yue are both successful, the orphanage’s future is secure. You can start focusing on your own life. You don’t have to keep watching over this place."
"A girl has to get married someday."
’To be honest, she wasn’t worried about Jiang Fan or Jun Yue anymore. Those two had already made arrangements for the orphanage’s children.’
’Her only remaining worry was Li Qian’Er’s future marriage. The girl had never given it any thought.’
’She saw Li Qian’Er as her own granddaughter, so of course she wanted to see her get married, have children, and start a new family of her own to live a happy life.’
"Grandma, I’m not in a hurry about that."
"Don’t worry, you have nothing to worry about."
Li Qian’Er said coaxingly, hugging her arm.
"That’s right, that’s right. There’s no rush. The child is still young. Besides, it’s hard to find a good man in this day and age. When fate brings someone along, it will happen naturally."
Li Jiaxiang actually chimed in to agree.
"It’s just that this old woman doesn’t have many years left. I might not get to see you get married and have children."
The director sighed.
"Grandma, don’t say that! You’ll definitely live to be a hundred."
"You’ll have to help me look after my kids then."
Li Qian’Er quickly covered the director’s mouth with her hand.
Jiang Fan, standing to the side, felt like a third wheel, unable to get a word in.
Just then, he vaguely noticed that the school gate seemed much more crowded. Usually, the area was quiet, with only a few passersby at most.
But now, seven or eight luxury cars were parked at the entrance.
It was just that no one had gotten out of them yet.
He also noticed that as time passed, more and more cars were arriving.
Some were very low-key, just ordinary family cars. Others were exceptionally high-profile—Benzez, BMWs, and even Maybachs were considered nothing out of the ordinary.
"Mr. Li, look at the gate."
Jiang Fan said, jutting his chin toward the gate.
"If they want to come, let them. This is a good thing, actually. It means our objective has been achieved. We have their attention now."
"Why don’t you go out and greet them."
"If you want them here, let them in. If not, feel free to turn them away."
"I’ll take your director and Qian’Er for a walk around the school."
Li Jiaxiang waved him off as if shooing a fly, completely unconcerned about the people outside—or about Jiang Fan, for that matter.
"Mr. Li, I get the feeling you’re only nice to people when you need something from them."
"You little rascal."
But by the time he raised his hand, Jiang Fan had already scampered off.
He couldn’t help but laugh and mutter, "That little rascal."
"Auntie, let’s keep walking. The campus environment is quite nice."
...
Jiang Fan walked up to the school gate and opened it wide.
"Excuse me, can I help you?"
"If not, you can’t park here."
Seeing Jiang Fan come out, people began piling out of the cars.
"You must be Mr. Jiang Fan, right? I’m the chairman of the Dali Group. This is my son. Do you think he could enroll here?"
"Is your school still accepting students? Tuition and other fees are no object."
"Mr. Jiang, I’m the general manager of the Muzhi Group. Since the school just opened, I was wondering if you were looking for students."
"This is my daughter. She’s in the fifth grade."
"Mr. Jiang, I’m from the Liu Family. This is my youngest grandson. Do you think he could attend your school?"
"He should be starting kindergarten this year."
...
’So that’s what this was about. They all wanted to shove their kids into his school.’
’He knew their real motive, of course. They just wanted to use this connection to get in good with Li Jiaxiang.’
’Besides, these kids were all from rich or powerful families. If they studied here, they would become his future network.’
’It was a temptation that would be impossible for anyone to refuse.’
’After all, this group had either power or money; they were not people to be taken lightly.’
’Get on their good side, and a meteoric rise through the ranks would be practically guaranteed.’
"I’m sorry, but our school isn’t open for public enrollment."
"Besides, we’re already at full capacity."
"What? Full? Mr. Jiang, couldn’t you squeeze just one more in?"
"Say, Mr. Jiang... didn’t you leave this two-million-dollar check... in my pocket?"
