The Goddess CEO Fell in Love with Me
Chapter 41: Is There a Secret?
Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Is There a Secret?
Yin Shan was unsure of Jiang Fan’s identity. The Jiang Family... which Jiang Family was he from?
Anyone who reached Yin Shan’s level had also clawed their way up.
Since Jiang Fan acted with such confidence, he must have some sort of backing.
It was always better to have another friend than another enemy.
Yin Shan spoke up. "A guest is a guest. Please, take a seat."
"Xue, come over here. You’ll sit with Xuan."
He didn’t care what kind of background this Jiang Fan person had. Yin Ruxue was his granddaughter—that was an indisputable fact.
It was also a fact that he disliked this grandson-in-law who had appeared out of nowhere.
Yin Ruxue glanced at Jiang Fan, her gaze seemingly telling him not to worry.
Jiang Fan, however, was perfectly calm inside.
Chen Xuan, on the other hand, looked at Jiang Fan with a smile, as if to say, ’I’m still a cut above you.’
Chen Xuan even peeled a grape and offered it to Yin Ruxue, but she rejected it with disgust.
Chen Xuan let out a cold snort and shot Jiang Fan a glare.
Jiang Fan scanned his surroundings and noticed Lu Youyou and Elder Lu were also there. Seeing an empty seat at their table, he went over and sat down.
Elder Lu spoke in a very kindly manner, "Young friend, we must be fated to meet. This time, we’re even sharing a table."
"Just lucky, I guess," Jiang Fan said, feeling a little guilty.
He was still thinking about the business card he had given the old man.
That seemed to be his biggest blunder.
It clearly stated that he was an employee for a food delivery service, and even had his goofy avatar on it.
If the old man decided to expose him, he would be utterly humiliated.
But his worries were clearly unfounded. The short, spry old man didn’t say a word.
Instead, Lu Youyou switched seats with her grandfather, moving next to Jiang Fan.
She whispered, "Senior, you cultivate so quickly. To be a Grandmaster at such a young age... do you have some kind of secret cultivation method?"
Jiang Fan was taken aback. "Miss, you look older than me, don’t you?"
"And you’re calling me ’Senior’?"
"Do I look that old?"
Realizing she’d misspoken, Lu Youyou quietly replied, "You’re not old, Senior. I just have some questions about cultivation that I don’t understand and was hoping to ask you."
"Cultivation? I don’t know the first thing about it."
Jiang Fan was actually telling the truth. After all, everything had happened so fast and his powers had come so suddenly that he had barely managed to adapt. There was still a lot he didn’t understand.
To Lu Youyou’s ears, however, Jiang Fan’s seemingly casual words sounded more like, ’You’re pathetic. I don’t want to waste my time with you.’
Lu Youyou shut down completely.
But then she thought, ’If I could one day possess the same kind of power as Jiang Fan...’
’...it would be a huge benefit to me personally, and to my family.’
She suppressed the urge to punch him and continued trying to talk with Jiang Fan, hoping to wheedle some useful information out of him.
However, she didn’t push it. She just made small talk with Jiang Fan, trying to find any topic to discuss.
This actually led Jiang Fan to wonder, ’Could this woman actually be into me?’
’Look at her figure—long, slender legs, a full bust, a delicate, oval face, and that cool, mature aura.’
’She’s a damn textbook bombshell. She can’t seriously be... you know... into me, right?’
He shook his head. ’The world is a dangerous place. Better to keep my distance from this woman. Gotta maintain some space.’
At the birthday banquet.
Members of the Yin Family’s younger generation kept coming forward to offer toasts to Yin Shan.
"Wishing you good health and a long life, Grandfather."
Even his grandson, Yin Tianzheng, who had been studying abroad, had returned.
"Grandfather, you’re still in such good health. Your grandson wishes you eternal youth and a long, prosperous life."
"Good grandson, good grandson."
...
The birthday banquet began. After going through a series of formalities, it seemed the only difference between the world of the rich and the world of commoners was money.
It all came down to a single word: expensive.
Pretty much everything was imported.
The red wine was from a remote island, the fish was from Russia, the music was American, and so on; they had it all.
Throughout the event, Chen Xuan seemed very concerned with Yin Ruxue’s opinion of him and was constantly trying to curry her favor.
Unfortunately for him, Yin Ruxue’s gaze wasn’t on him at all.
This made him furious.
Yin Ruxue was watching Jiang Fan, but not because she was worried that the people around them would give him a hard time.
After all, everyone present was a person of status.
With the "wealthy heir" identity she had constructed for him, everyone would naturally show him some courtesy and wouldn’t go out of their way to trouble him.
But when she focused on him, she saw Jiang Fan at his table, stuffing his face and chugging drinks like he’d never seen such fine things before, just wolfing down everything on the table. Yin Ruxue gently facepalmed.
’If he keeps eating like that, is he going to blow his cover?’
After all, Jiang Fan was eating as if he hadn’t had a decent meal in several lifetimes.
’And that woman... isn’t that the young lady of the Lu Family?’
’Why does she seem so familiar with Jiang Fan? She keeps talking to him, and he even seems to be enjoying it.’
This made Yin Ruxue feel a little upset.
’He’s here as my boyfriend, after all.’
’Shouldn’t he be keeping his distance from other women?’
’Even though our contract stated we wouldn’t interfere in each other’s private lives...’
’...in this kind of setting, he should at least be a little more professional about his role as my boyfriend.’
Jiang Fan had no idea what was going through Yin Ruxue’s mind.
At that moment, all he wanted to do was stuff himself.
It seemed that ever since he’d broken through to the Innate realm and become a Grandmaster, his appetite had completely changed.
The other wealthy businessmen at the table saw how much Jiang Fan was eating and were at a loss for words.
’People like them... what hadn’t they eaten before?’
’Is this man really a friend of the Yin Family’s second young lady?’
But on the other hand, the young lady of the Lu Family seemed to be quite familiar with the man.
This added a layer of mystery to Jiang Fan’s identity in everyone’s eyes.
Lu Youyou, who was constantly trying to start a conversation, was getting a little annoyed.
In the course of their conversation, she’d learned from Jiang Fan that he was only twenty-six.
A year younger than her.
And yet this man was giving her the cold shoulder.
She was used to being the ice queen everyone fawned over.
As a scion of the Lu Family, and their eldest daughter no less, she had countless admirers.
She was pursued by plenty of young masters from families worth tens of billions.
But now, Jiang Fan wouldn’t even give her a proper look, which left her feeling utterly defeated.
Beside her, Elder Lu just calmly ate his food, occasionally glancing at the two young people with a faint smile.
Lu Youyou was on the verge of tears. She leaned close to her grandfather’s ear and whispered, "Grandpa, what do I do? This jerk is completely unapproachable."
Elder Lu shook his head. "A Grandmaster is like a dragon."
"If he is willing to guide you, then he will."
"If he isn’t, then you can’t force it."
Lu Youyou instantly deflated like a popped balloon. ’Then he’s probably not going to teach me.’
