The Goddess CEO Fell in Love with Me
Chapter 58: Such an Assistant
Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Such an Assistant
"What’s wrong?"
Li Qian’Er, a little confused, came to stand beside Jiang Fan.
"There’s some money on this card—a bit more than last time. Take it and find a better place for the kids at the orphanage. Don’t be afraid to spend; there’s more than enough here."
"And it’s time for them to be in school, so arrange for that. Make sure they have everything they need for food, clothing, and daily life."
"But don’t be extravagant or wasteful either."
Li Qian’Er’s eyes widened. She had been the one managing the orphanage’s affairs all these years, so she knew exactly how much money all of this would require.
’He must have made money from stone-gambling again.’
But he was being discreet about it. If Grandma, the director, found out, she would never accept the money.
"Okay."
Li Qian’Er took a deep breath, steadying her slightly trembling hand as she accepted the bank card.
"Get this done as soon as you can. Move out of here quickly. If you run into any trouble, just call me."
Jiang Fan instructed.
"Okay."
"Oh, you child..."
The director, Grandma, shook her head, her eyes welling up with tears.
A sense of pride swelled in her heart.
This was a child she had raised. Her child had made something of himself, and he hadn’t forgotten to be grateful.
For anyone in her position, this was the proudest moment imaginable.
"Don’t leave tonight. Grandma will make you your favorite: pork belly with preserved mustard greens."
Grandma tightly gripped Jiang Fan’s hand.
"Okay, I’ll be looking forward to it then."
"Perfect, there’s still a lot of pork left from the other day. Grandma, I’ll help you,"
Li Qian’Er quickly offered.
"Alright."
"You just sit here, my child."
Grandma stood up and bustled into the kitchen. At some point, tears had started streaming down Jiang Fan’s face as well.
A dish like pork belly with preserved mustard greens might be ordinary or even disliked by a child from a typical family.
But for a child like Jiang Fan who grew up in an orphanage, it was a meal they could only eat once a year, during the New Year.
Every time, he wished he could lick the bowl clean, down to the last drop of oil.
Yet even in those difficult times, Grandma always did everything she could to make it for him, never letting him feel deprived.
And those were his happiest moments at the orphanage.
By the time the steaming bowl of pork belly was served, Jiang Fan had already wiped his tears away. Only the slight wetness in the corners of his eyes betrayed that he was not as calm as he appeared.
"Hurry and eat while it’s hot, my child. Wasn’t this your favorite when you were little?"
Grandma ladled a large bowl of white rice for him.
"Qian’Er, go take care of the other children and make sure they eat."
"Don’t let them go hungry."
"Okay."
Li Qian’Er left, leaving the two of them alone.
In one go, Jiang Fan ate the entire large bowl of pork belly with preserved mustard greens. The familiar taste awakened his appetite.
Seeing his clean plate, a look of gratification appeared on Grandma’s face.
"Good boy. Next time you’re craving it, just come back, and Grandma will make it for you again."
Grandma reached out with her frail hand and patted Jiang Fan’s head, just like when he was a child.
"Okay."
Jiang Fan nodded. "Grandma, you don’t have to work so hard anymore. Taking care of yourself is what’s truly important. As for the orphanage, Qian’Er will handle things."
"The money I left is enough. If anything comes up, just call me."
"Also, about the supplies I had someone send over last time..."
"Speaking of which, I haven’t even thanked you for that! Those supplies have allowed the children to rest and live so much better."
But Jiang Fan just shook his head.
"It’s what I should do."
Just then, Jiang Fan’s phone suddenly rang.
He took it out and saw that the call was from Li Muwan.
"Where are you right now? Get to the office immediately."
The moment he answered, Li Muwan’s cold voice came through the phone.
Jiang Fan frowned, not wanting to deal with her. "It’s after work hours. Why do you care where I am?"
"Get to the office now and you’ll get a 1,000 bonus. If you don’t, I’m docking 2,000 from your salary."
"Don’t ask me why. I’m doing it because I feel like it. If you have a problem with it, you can sue me, or you can go report me to the chairman."
"You..."
Jiang Fan thought for a moment and ultimately decided to give in for the 1,000 yuan.
He was broke again, so there was no point in turning down money.
After hanging up, before Jiang Fan could say anything, Grandma spoke first.
"If you have something to do, go ahead and take care of it. Grandma will be happy just to have you visit again when you’re free."
"Okay. Grandma, you need to take care of yourself. If anything happens, you must, must call me. I’ll come visit whenever I have time."
"And when you move to the new place, give me a call too, otherwise I’m afraid I won’t be able to find you."
"Alright."
"Go on, go on."
Grandma gave him a kind smile.
Jiang Fan said goodbye to Li Qian’Er, then got in his car and headed straight for the office.
It was already past seven. Not only was that crazy woman still there, but she was even wearing a gorgeous evening gown.
"What did you call me here for, Li the Slave Driver?"
Walking into the office, Jiang Fan plopped down on the sofa and asked quizzically.
"What did you just call me?"
Li Muwan’s brow furrowed as she asked in a cold voice.
"AHEM, AHEM. I said Manager Li. Manager Li."
His bravado lasted all of three seconds before he quickly put on an apologetic smile.
"You’re going to drive me to the Junyue Hotel, and then you’ll wait downstairs for me to come back."
"Once the job is done, you’ll get your 1,000 bonus."
However, Li Muwan didn’t press the issue and got straight to the point.
"Huh?"
"The Junyue Hotel? That five-star hotel? What are you going there for?"
"Don’t ask so many questions. For now, you’re my assistant and part-time driver. Don’t ask what you’re not supposed to ask, and don’t say what you’re not supposed to say."
"???"
"I’m not your slave. Don’t I even have the right to ask?"
Jiang Fan rolled his eyes, not giving her a pleasant look.
Li Muwan really couldn’t be bothered to argue with him. Besides, the situation was urgent. After a moment’s thought, she said, "I’m going to a reception. One of our major clients is there, along with a rival company."
"We absolutely cannot let them finalize a partnership, or it will be a huge blow to us."
"Do you understand now?"
"Get your car. We’re leaving immediately."
"My car? I’m afraid that won’t be possible."
Jiang Fan said, shaking his head.
"Jiang Fan, what on earth are you trying to pull!"
"I’m serious, we can’t go. My car is out of gas."
"The Junyue Hotel is a bit far from here. I’m not even sure there’s enough gas in the tank to make it."
"Then go get gas!"
"Shouldn’t you give me money for it first?"
"You’d have to pay if you took a taxi."
"You don’t even have money for gas?"
Li Muwan felt like she was about to lose her mind.
