Chapter 284: Chapter 134: The Suit-wearing Mobster Chef’s Delicious Food Truck (Part 2)

The two had just left.

Zhang Li and Liu Shengnan came in. "Boss!"

Zhang Li’s voice was soft and sweet. "Boss, Sister Shengnan and I would like to ask for a day off! Hehe."

"What for?" Su Chen sensed that something was off. "Why is everyone asking for a day off today?"

"It’s nothing special!" Liu Shengnan’s face was unreadable. "The two of us made plans to go shopping today. Zhang Li will be back before noon, but I won’t be coming in this afternoon, ’kay!"

The short-legged girl still had to manage the lunch service with He Shuting.

"Well... fine, go ahead."

Su Chen’s head was starting to spin.

’If they all leave, who’s going to taste-test my Stir-Fried Yellow Beef?’

Now, only Aunt Fang and He Shuting were left in the cafeteria. ’Well, two people is fine, I guess. Better than no one...’

"Boss, I need to take a short leave. Something came up at home, and I need to go back for a bit. I’ll be back before noon!" He Shuting just shouted a greeting from the doorway and then slipped away with her small handbag.

"Such insolence, such insolence!" Su Chen took a vicious bite of his steamed bun. ’They’re completely disregarding me as the boss. Deductions! I’ll deduct from their bonuses, deduct, deduct, deduct!’

Aunt Fang smiled at Su Chen. "I need to head home for a bit too... Xiaobin said he forgot his homework. I have to go drop it off for him."

Su Chen waved his hand, not saying a word.

It was only after Aunt Fang left that he realized.

’Don’t high school students do their homework during evening self-study, for fuck’s sake?’

The groceries hadn’t even been delivered yet, everyone from the office had asked for leave, and suddenly he was the only one left!

Su Chen stood there stunned for a long moment. "Son of a bitch!"

Frustrated, he grabbed two more steamed buns and a couple of tea eggs. And you know what? They were actually pretty delicious.

No wonder those folks from Xinghui never got tired of eating them every day. It was just a shame that the 38-yuan giant meat buns Su Chen made himself never sold very well.

The main reason was: they were too expensive.

Most of the people who came for breakfast were just regular employees. Even if they knew the 38-yuan meat buns were truly super delicious, they would still clutch their wallets and control their appetites.

Another ten minutes or so passed. Su Chen finished his breakfast and washed his used dishes.

He saw Ling Shuyu come in from outside, carrying the very groceries he had sent her to buy.

"I bought everything on the list. Do you want to check?"

Su Chen took the bags and tossed them casually onto the counter. "Forget it, I’m not looking."

’There’s no point in looking. Everyone in the company is gone. Who would I even cook for?!’

"Oh." Uncharacteristically, Ling Shuyu didn’t say anything more about it. "Boss, I need to ask for a day off."

"You’re asking for a day off too?" Su Chen raised an eyebrow at her. "Be honest. Are you all hiding something from me? Why is everyone taking leave at the same time? I know the company is planning to suspend operations for a few days, but you can’t just leave it an empty shell, can you?"

Ling Shuyu turned slightly to the side, her gaze drifting elsewhere. "It’s... just something urgent. I should be back soon."

She was a terrible liar. He remembered one time Zhang Li had dragged her along to play a game of Werewolf.

Every time Ling Shuyu got a wolf card and started to speak, her face would instantly flush beet red, all the way to her neck.

Back then, she’d gotten so nervous while lying that she even blurted out the now-famous line: "I am a good human person!"

The story went viral in the Werewolf circles back then. Later, Ling Shuyu exercised a bit of her "cash power" and snuffed the story out in some now-disbanded group chat.

After that, she refused to play any game that required lying!

"Fine, go ahead. I guess I’ll just be an empty-nester for a day~" Su Chen said, clasping his hands behind his back as he walked away.

’Since they don’t have the good fortune to taste my Stir-Fried Yellow Beef, they can’t blame me!’

’Even though it’s only A Level right now, the flavor is definitely Level 1, okay?’

’Hmm... I’ll go back and rest a bit more. If that doesn’t work out, I’ll study some other people.’

’A person’s got to be flexible. I can’t just fixate on one dish. What if inspiration suddenly strikes?’

After giving himself a little pep talk, Su Chen swaggered back to the nineteenth floor.

He took the stairs again; the elevator was just too busy.

...

「As noon approached.」

「Jingzhou City, Ecological Botanical Garden.」

This had become a rather popular park in recent years. With its fresh air and free admission, many families chose to come here for a stroll after dinner.

Moreover, with the "street stall economy" still being promoted in recent years, a pedestrian street just outside the Ecological Botanical Garden had simply been designated as a street where stalls could be set up.

But due to the particular nature of the crowds at the Botanical Garden, business for the street stalls wasn’t very good. When night fell, only a few scattered stalls would appear on this street.

Most of them, however, mainly sold small toys or things like light-up hair clips.

The stall owners were also mostly nearby residents or university students.

They were bored just staying at home, so they’d rather come out and set up a stall. It was a way to get some fresh air, and it didn’t really matter how much they earned.

Food stalls were basically concentrated over at the night markets in Jingzhou. The people who came here for a stroll had already eaten, so selling snacks didn’t have much of a future.

It was now approaching noon, and there was hardly anyone on the Pedestrian Street.

But a very strange stall had appeared!

"Xiaobai, if you’re going to do it like this, I really can’t approve the reimbursement for this!"

She never would have imagined it.

She had told Bai Xiaobo and Zhang the Second to get a pushcart for the stall, but the two of them had gone and gotten a four-wheeled mobile food cart instead!

And it was fucking electric!

It was a really nice piece of equipment, but it cost over six thousand yuan!!!

"Shengnan, given our boss’s status, he needs a stall of this caliber at the very least. What is one of those three-wheeled carts! It’s not worthy!" Zhang Heping said, patting the electric cart with a very satisfied look on his face.
