Chapter 316: Chapter 141: Chinese-Style Pastries, Preparatory Work (3)

The short-legged girl sat down smugly. "In your dreams! But I really am here on business."

The others didn’t interrupt, listening quietly to their conversation.

Wang Rui asked, "What business?"

"Our company recently got a new order that needs to highlight traditional Chinese aesthetics and culture. President Ling thought she’d ask you to write some copy for us. Otherwise, wouldn’t all that talent of yours go to waste?"

Wang Rui didn’t care much for the first part, but that last sentence was music to his ears. "Write copy? No problem! You can count on me!"

"You only have three days, though!"

Wang Rui froze. "How is three days enough? I need at least a week to write original copy!"

Zhang Li laughed. "It takes our great Mr. Wang that long to write a little copy? And after all the praise President Ling was just heaping on you in her office."

"What did she say?" Wang Rui’s interest was immediately piqued.

"Well, it was wasted praise, so never mind~" The short-legged girl leaned back in her chair, waving her hand dismissively. "Turns out your reputation is undeserved!"

"No, come on, tell me. What exactly did she say?"

Zhang Li cleared her throat. "President Ling said that our Xiaowang is a talented guy, but it’s a shame he can’t really use that talent in Xinghui’s General Affairs Department. She said giving this copy assignment to him would be no problem at all, and then she even said~"

The short-legged girl looked at Wang Rui, her eyes twinkling. "She also said that if he were at Meiweilai Company, he could really play to his strengths. Such a shame!"

GASP!

Wang Rui sucked in a sharp breath. "President Ling... really said that?"

This wasn’t just anyone; this was the ice queen, Ling Shuyu!

Back at Xinghui, the design department had an unwritten rule: if you managed to get through the year without being chewed out by President Ling, you were hands-down the employee of the year.

Just not getting yelled at made you a top talent. But getting praised?

That was basically a pipe dream!

"Yep! I guess even President Ling misjudges people sometimes. Oh well, I’m off~"

Wang Rui grabbed Zhang Li’s arm. "Three days? I can get it done in one day, okay? Just bring me the product. I’ll have it for you by tonight!"

Only then did Zhang Li let out a satisfied hum. "Alright then, why don’t you come over to our company when you get off for lunch? You’ll know what to do once you see it."

Wang Rui was already dizzy from the praise. Hearing Zhang Li’s offer, his eyes lit up. "Go to your company? Is lunch included?"

"Of course. You’re helping us out; you think we wouldn’t even give you a meal?"

Wang Rui clapped his hands together. "Forget waiting for the lunch break! I’ll take leave! I’m going to ask for leave right now! Meiweilai Company’s business is my business! I’m absolutely not in this for the free lunch. I just have a passion for work! Let’s go, I’m off to request leave!"

Seeing Wang Rui march off with such purpose, Liu Xia tentatively spoke up, "Actually, I have some talent myself. Zhang Li, what about me..."

Another colleague chimed in, "I won first prize in the district writing competition back in elementary school. I can help with this too. And it’s definitely not about freeloading a meal or anything!"

"Me too!"

"Look at me, look at me! Zhang Li, I can do it too! Writing some copy is a piece of cake!"

The short-legged girl was suddenly swarmed by everyone. She waved her hands in a panic. "No, no! President Ling specifically asked for Wang Rui’s help. We can collaborate in the future if there’s a chance! But it’s really not possible this time!"

After fighting her way out of the crowd and escaping the General Affairs Department, the short-legged girl patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief. ’That was way too scary.’

Still, this whole thing went surprisingly smoothly.

"’It seems like when you’re out trying to get things done these days, Boss Su’s name is even more effective than President Ling’s!’"

"’Hmm... from now on, when I’m out on an errand, I’ll just say Boss Su sent me! Hehe... it works like a charm.’"

A few minutes later, Wang Rui emerged from the director’s office. "Let’s go! I’m heading to your company right now!"

The two left the Xinghui Building. As they were about to enter Meiweilai Company, Wang Rui suddenly asked a question. "Zhang Li, is your company hiring right now?"

"Huh? You really want to join our company?"

Wang Rui pushed up his glasses. "To be honest, I’m kind of thinking about it. But I always feel like you guys are just goofing off every day instead of doing proper work. The day before yesterday, I saw you with that food cart. What was that about? Why is setting up a stall part of your job description?"

"’Goofing off, my ass!’ Zhang Li gave him a light punch. ’What the hell do you know? We call this "having fun while making money"! You think dealing with all that random crap at your company every day is "proper work"?’"

Wang Rui wanted to argue back with a line or two about things like self-improvement.

But then he thought about it and realized she had a damn good point.

They spent their days having fun, gleefully messing around, and still made money—maybe even more than he did!

Then he looked at himself. Every day, he had to help people write reports and draft documents, on top of handling all sorts of miscellaneous company chores. Going to work every day felt like torture.

’Damn it, I have to do a good job this time! If possible, I’ll go to Boss Su and beg him to let me work here!’

His mind a whirl of emotions, Wang Rui followed Zhang Li to the second-floor office area.

Ling Shuyu was sitting inside. "Oh? You’re here already?"

Wang Rui nodded. "I took the day off."

"Oh." Ling Shuyu looked down at her computer. "I’ll talk to your director later and have him mark you as present for the day. Come over here for a moment."

"These are a few traditional Chinese pastries, and this is my plating design. My plan is to do a simple setup on-site after the client arrives. I need you to write some copy, which will then be written on a banner with a calligraphy brush for decoration."

Wang Rui suddenly understood why the people in the design department used to complain that President Ling was difficult to work for, yet were still so devoted to her.

Working with a boss like this was a breeze. No wasted words, no unnecessary effort—it was incredibly refreshing!

"I understand."

Wang Rui glanced at it. "Give me one day. I need to do some research."

Ling Shuyu sent the pictures and pastry names to Zhang Li. "Forward these to Wang Rui for me."

Then she went back to her work, not saying another unnecessary word.

As for Wang Rui, after getting the materials, he turned to Zhang Li. "Can I use that computer?"

"Sure, go ahead. You can just work here in this room. I’ll call you when it’s time for lunch!"

"You got it!" At the mention of food, Wang Rui felt a surge of endless energy.

Under Ling Shuyu’s direction, everything proceeded in an orderly fashion.

Meanwhile, in the practice room, Su Chen had finally gone through the production process for all the pastries.

He looked at the pastries, all of which had received a C Level rating.

Su Chen stroked his chin.

’Now I just have to wait for Old Ba to get here, and I can start improving the quality!’
