Chapter 330: Chapter 144: Another One! One for Each

It was a pair of form-fitting black trousers, paired with a white blouse and a tailored blazer.

Ling Shuyu used to wear other colors, but ever since she started at Delicious, she seemed to have been influenced by Su Chen.

Now, it was always the same unchanging black.

After leaving the cafeteria, Ling Shuyu met the four young women who were heading inside. "This way, please."

To the side of the office area was a row of empty rooms sectioned off with frosted glass. Aside from the first two—a conference room and a lounge—the third was the pastry room they had spent a whole day decorating.

Zhang Jiayi glanced behind Ling Shuyu but didn’t see Boss Su. She nodded and led her friends toward the private room.

"Peach Blossom Spring?" Zhang Jiayi stopped at the entrance to the private room.

Her gaze fell on the wooden plaque hanging beside the doorframe.

"Please, come in." Ling Shuyu pushed the door open with one hand.

Zhang Jiayi stood at the doorway and peeked inside.

The first thing she saw was a four-panel screen painted with murals. Through a passage in the middle, she could vaguely make out an antique-style table. Its design was so unique, it felt like something out of a historical drama.

Surrounding the table were four wooden chairs, their backs carved with some kind of unknown pattern. In that moment, Zhang Jiayi felt utterly uncultured; she couldn’t say the first thing about any of it, so all she could manage to blurt out was, "It’s just like the sets in a historical drama!"

Duoduo sat down casually at the table. "You can tell it’s newly decorated. With the door closed, the ambiance isn’t bad. It would be much better if they replaced this frosted glass with wooden latticework or something."

She was referring to the kind of decoration you’d find in a gazebo. Ling Shuyu smiled. "My sincerest apologies. This is our company’s first time taking on this type of specialty order. We will continue to make improvements in the future. May I serve your food now?"

"Don’t we get to see a menu?" Zhou Ya asked, a little curious.

Zhang Jiayi said, "This is a bespoke-style restaurant, so there’s no menu. I just ordered an afternoon tea set."

"Oh." Jiang Lan took off her baseball cap. "Then bring it on."

Ling Shuyu nodded slightly. "Please wait just a moment."

After Ling Shuyu left, Duoduo looked around for a while. "If you don’t look outside, this place is actually pretty nice. It’s just that the mix of ancient and modern is a bit disorienting."

Zhang Jiayi felt a headache coming on, too.

Just then, Zhou Ya said, "Duoduo, you should start your livestream!"

"Huh? A livestream?"

"Yeah, Jiayi! Didn’t we promise your fans last time we ate out? That you’d show them around next time you had afternoon tea. Hurry up and start the stream!" Duoduo chimed in, egging her on.

Zhang Jiayi clutched her phone. "But... what if Sweet actually tries to connect with me?"

"So what if she does!" Duoduo leaned back in her chair nonchalantly. "You know how it is. These events are just for creating a buzz. Listen to me, just play the sweet, clueless girl. If she really tells you to go cook something, just set the pot on fire! Guys eat that stuff up these days!"

Zhang Jiayi stammered for a moment. "Okay, fine..."

She then took a simple stabilizer stand out of her bag and started her Douyin livestream.

After all, she had invested quite a bit of energy and money into it, and her account had over a hundred thousand followers.

As soon as she went live, more than a hundred of her most dedicated fans immediately joined.

"Jiayi’s finally live?"

"Another day of envying the rich girl... Quick, show us where you are!"

"This place looks nice, and the location tag says Jingzhou? We have a place like this in our Jingzhou?"

Zhang Jiayi forced a smile and waved at her phone. "Hi everyone~ Today I’m having afternoon tea with my besties. Right now... I won’t tell you where we are. Let’s see what interesting things this place has in a bit~"

After saying that, Zhang Jiayi couldn’t bring herself to look at the scrolling comments.

’Every second felt like she was sitting on pins and needles!’

A few minutes after she started the stream, there was a knock on the private room’s door. A man wearing black-rimmed glasses walked in, carrying a tray.

"Her face, a flower of peerless worth, a joy to her king, whose smile never fades. She soothes the endless sorrow of the spring breeze, by the rail of Chenxiang Pavilion."

"My four honored guests. Your Imperial Consort Cakes."

On the wooden tray were four porcelain plates with high feet, a celadon-green base, and a white surface. Two small cakes were placed on each plate.

The jade-white cakes were painted with exceptionally beautiful red patterns. At first glance, they didn’t seem like much, but a closer look revealed they came in all sorts of different shapes, each one unique.

Beneath each high-footed plate was a small strip of Xuan paper, on which were written the very lines of poetry the man in black-rimmed glasses had just recited.

None of the four women were particularly scholarly, so they curiously picked up the strips of paper and studied them for a long time, unable to grasp their meaning.

"Please, take your time and enjoy." Wang Rui excused himself from the room.

Seeing the pastry, Zhang Jiayi’s earlier gloominess vanished, replaced by a touch of delight.

"This pastry is so beautiful! I have to show my fans first!"

She turned the camera around to focus on her portion of the Imperial Consort Cake.

"This dessert is called Imperial Consort Cake. Wow, it’s shaped like a white moon, the color of creamy milk... it’s totally my aesthetic!"

With that, Zhang Jiayi immediately grabbed another phone and started furiously snapping photos of the Imperial Consort Cakes on the table.

"Ugh, so depressing. If I had known it was this kind of historical-themed vibe today, I wouldn’t have worn yoga pants! I feel so out of place in this environment!" Jiang Lan lamented, slightly annoyed.

Among the four of them, she had the lowest status and was, in reality, little more than a follower.

Zhang Jiayi’s and Duoduo’s dresses were all high-end custom designs, but Jiang Lan didn’t have that kind of money to spend.
