Chapter 382: Chapter 156: Real Review of the Cthulhu Soup Dumplings! (Part 2)

By four in the afternoon, the stairway to the nineteenth floor was already packed. The line snaked all the way down to the third floor, and even then, it spilled over and continued to form inside the third-floor space.

Seeing the situation, many people were deterred and chose to try the home-style dishes on the third floor first instead.

Teacher Tang was one of them.

"This is insane! How did the line go straight from the nineteenth floor down to the third? I just saw Teacher Sui still waiting in line, haha! That’s just too long of a wait. We’re not getting in on that chaos. We’ll just eat on the third floor!"

Holding his phone high, Teacher Tang took a lap around the third floor before having his assistant pick out a table for six.

"We’re going to order one of everything today! We’ll try every single home-style dish they have! You guys get in line, too! If I’m the only one ordering, it’ll take forever!"

Teacher Tang, phone in hand, was the first to reach one of the service windows. He glanced inside and was instantly dumbfounded. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

"Wang... wait, what are you doing here?"

Wang Peixing grinned. "Master Su has been overwhelmed these past few days, so I came to help out. What would you like to eat? I’ll make it for you fresh."

Whoa!

Holy cow!

Teacher Tang was utterly shocked!

’How is the manager of the Capital City’s Cuihua Building here working as a line cook?’

’And from what he just said, it sounds like this Boss Su is his master. If you go by seniority...’

*Hiss!* ’Does that mean Boss Su and Master Cui are from the same generation?’

’This is so damn confusing!’

Old Tang swallowed hard. "In... in that case, fine. I’ll have to order all three dishes you’re making here!"

The kitchen setup here was interesting. From the window, you could see everything clearly through a large pane of glass.

After acknowledging the order, Wang Peixing deftly began to cook with the pre-portioned ingredients.

Old Tang aimed his live stream’s camera into the kitchen.

"Can food made by the head chef of the Cuihua Building possibly taste bad?"

His words carried into the kitchen.

While prepping, Wang Peixing said, "You really shouldn’t say that. My cooking is nothing special. It’s all thanks to Boss Su, who trained me all morning. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have the nerve to cook for everyone."

Holy cow! Again!

Old Tang was truly baffled by Wang Peixing’s words.

’You single-handedly run a time-honored brand in the Capital City, and you’re saying something like this now?’

Regardless, Old Tang focused his attention on Wang Peixing’s cooking, and naturally, he couldn’t help but provide some commentary.

"No wonder this Mapo Tofu costs 88 yuan per serving! Looking at the whole country, only some exclusive business clubs would dare to charge that much. Everyone, take a look!"

"What did Teacher Wang just use to build the base flavor in the wok? It’s loaded with minced beef! By my estimate, that’s at least half a pound of it. Everyone knows how much beef costs, so 88 for this is definitely not expensive."

"That ladle... That’s... Teacher Wang, what was that broth you just added to the wok?"

Wang Peixing turned his head and grinned. "This is the clear broth prepared by Boss Su."

*HSSS!!!*

This time, Old Tang actually stumbled and nearly fell over.

’What the hell?’

"A lot of people don’t know what this ’clear broth’ is, so let me explain it to you all."

"This clear broth is a type of superior stock in Lu Cuisine, used in many dishes. In old-fashioned, traditional Lu Cuisine restaurants, there’s a saying: ’No dish is complete without broth.’ This stock has to be simmered for at least twenty hours, and it uses a massive amount of ingredients!

To get it this clear, it has to be filtered at least three or four times! In terms of both labor and materials, this broth is incredibly expensive! My goodness, using this kind of clear broth just to stir-fry Mapo Tofu?"

After Old Tang’s explanation, the chat in his stream with over 100,000 viewers absolutely blew up!

"They’re using such expensive beef and clear broth just for a tofu dish?"

"Holy shit, I’m a Lu Cuisine chef, and even I was stunned when he said they were using Lu Cuisine clear broth! At my restaurant, the boss treats that stuff like treasure! We’re absolutely not allowed to use it for regular stir-fries!"

"Damn, hearing that, 88 yuan for Mapo Tofu doesn’t actually seem that expensive?"

"Definitely not expensive! That half-pound of beef alone has to be thirty or forty yuan, plus a ladle of that precious clear broth, and the manager of the Cuihua Building is personally cooking it for you. I ask you, how the hell is that still expensive?"

"So it really is ’home-style’... but isn’t this ’home’ a little... excessively wealthy?"

Before long, a jiggly plate of Mapo Tofu was brought out.

Wang Peixing nimbly cleaned the wok, then in a few swift motions, chopped a handful of yellow chives into inch-long segments.

He then cracked four eggs into a bowl.

"This is the Scrambled Eggs with Yellow Chives! We’re not eating just yet, let’s watch him cook it first!"

Old Tang discovered that even just watching Wang Peixing cook was incredibly informative!

Wang Peixing heated the oil in the wok until it was smoking, then poured the beaten eggs in with a SIZZLE. With a few quick pushes of his spatula, the eggs formed into curds.

He then added a bit of cold oil to the hot wok and tossed in the chopped yellow chives. After a few quick stirs, he expertly flipped the contents of the wok before adding the cooked eggs back in.

In a matter of moments, he had stir-fried the eggs and chives together evenly. Then, a ladleful of clear broth and half a ladleful of light soy sauce went into the wok.

Over the high heat, the liquids instantly vaporized!

The rich, smoky aroma, the *wok hei*, billowed out faster than the range hood could handle, wafting out through the service window.

"There it is! That aroma just hits you instantly! Everyone, pay close attention to this dish."

Old Tang pointed at the wok. "You can see that Teacher Wang finished the whole thing in under three minutes. The only seasonings he used were the clear broth and light soy sauce. For those of you at home, you can use chicken powder or MSG as a substitute for the clear broth."
