The Greatest Village Doctor In The World
Chapter 2650 - 2649: Mortal World
Unexpectedly for Ling Feng, after returning to Lingyun Island and finding Huo Huo, she didn’t want to go to Wu Cheng with him.
Huo Huo’s reason was simple: she had just settled down in this house and didn’t want to run around!
Ling Feng felt a bit helpless, but didn’t insist. He just smiled and asked, "If you don’t go, I might take them to the Xuanxu Realm tomorrow. Aren’t you coming?"
"Are you not coming back once you go?" Huo Huo replied.
"Of course not!"
Ling Feng shook his head, "Just some small matters over there need settling, and I keep thinking about them and can’t let go."
"Oh, then remember I’m waiting here. Just come back as soon as you’re done. I won’t go to the Xuanxu Realm for now!" Huo Huo said.
"Alright then."
Seeing her determination, Ling Feng nodded, "I’ll head back to Wu Cheng on my own."
Huo Huo glanced at him, "You’ve got so many charming confidantes, why not just randomly pick one to accompany you?"
"..."
Ling Feng was speechless, forced a laugh, and said nothing as he turned and left her house.
Though Huo Huo’s suggestion wasn’t unreasonable, Ling Feng chose to return to Wu Cheng alone without asking anyone along.
Later, considering his looks were too conspicuous, he decided to disguise himself into an unrecognizable appearance before finding a hotel.
Habitually selecting the best suite, Ling Feng took the elevator upstairs.
Night had already enveloped the city. Standing in the room on the top floor, gazing out the window at the dazzling lights, Ling Feng felt a wave of melancholy.
He didn’t know what he was contemplating, perhaps because the reunion scene of Li Xiaonian with family moved him.
Thinking of his own parents and grandfather, Ling Feng regretted that the dead couldn’t be resurrected. How wonderful if they could come back to life!
Seeing his accomplishments now, they’d surely be joyful, wouldn’t they?
Though he thought this way, Ling Feng was also clear that no matter how capable he was, some things were irreversible.
Unless, one could find a way to reverse time!
But according to Ling Feng’s current understanding of the universe, matter is fixed, and time is like a river gently flowing through matter in a fixed direction.
To reverse it would be impossible, even as the master of the universe!
Lost in wild imaginings, Ling Feng sighed, pulled back his wandering thoughts, and noticed it was already ten o’clock at night.
He could either rest or sit and stare at the scenery outside; it seemed like he had no other choice.
Yet suddenly, Ling Feng thought, since it’s his first visit to Wu Cheng, why not explore the local culture and sights to pass the time?
He could return to rest in the early morning.
With this decision made, Ling Feng stepped out of the room and headed downstairs.
At this time, the night was deep and the breeze carried the aroma of barbecue. Ling Feng glanced around and didn’t bother using Divine Sense as he strode against the breeze.
Not far from the hotel, a brightly lit street appeared ahead, lined with various snack stalls buzzing with activity.
Ling Feng smiled at the sight, thinking he was lucky to have stumbled upon a snack street.
He stepped onto the street, and since the local dialect was Wu dialect, which he didn’t quite understand and didn’t want to learn, he focused on observing what each stall was selling.
Southern snacks were quite varied, much more so than northern specialties, with many he hadn’t seen or even heard of before.
Seeing so much food, Ling Feng was excited and promptly sat down at an empty table, ordering a heap of dishes from the vendor.
Since he was in disguise, no one recognized Ling Feng, allowing him to sit comfortably at the table.
After about ten minutes, the food arrived, filling up the entire table as he had ordered quite a lot.
Ling Feng was dumbfounded, surprised at ordering so much at once.
No matter, he wasn’t bothered about the cost and went ahead to order two bottles of cold beer, ready for a feast.
Mid-meal, unexpectedly something nudged his foot. Ling Feng glanced down to find a dirty little dog, only about palm-sized, with matted fur that seemed it should’ve been a little white dog.
The little thing wandered under the table, not intentionally bumping into Ling Feng, just scavenging scraps off the floor.
Judging it as a stray, Ling Feng picked up a skewer, stripped the meat from it, and tossed the pieces down.
The little dog, quick to see the offering, immediately dashed toward it!
Yet, to Ling Feng’s surprise, it didn’t eat the meat, instead grabbing several pieces and hurriedly running off!
Watching it disappear around the street corner in a flash, Ling Feng promptly activated his Divine Sense.
Curious about its intent, he wanted to find out what the little dog was up to.
The skewers and beer on the table lost their allure.
Following with Divine Sense, he soon saw the little dog racing along the dim street before ducking into a patch of foliage.
After twisting and turning for a while, it finally settled inside an abandoned cement pipe.
Ling Feng then saw four even smaller puppies inside.
These pups seemed to be newborns, eyes barely open, incapable of running yet!
He realized that the dog was finding food for its offspring!
All things possess spirit, and motherly instincts in animals are no lesser than humans!
Ling Feng was touched watching, seeing the little dog spit out the meat for the puppies, while not taking a bite itself.
For some reason, Ling Feng suddenly felt compassion.
But then, he wondered if he was being overly sentimental?
Not just in this world, but even within this city, such scenes surely abound!
Human hunger isn’t adequately addressed, yet here he was pondering a stray dog and its pups?
In that moment, Ling Feng felt somewhat perplexed.
Just then, a few people settled at the table next to his. Seeing their appearance, they seemed to be laborers who had just finished a long workday and were here for a late-night meal.
Their clothes bore traces of paint and dust, hair a bit disheveled.
Ling Feng looked over and heard them ordering only economical choices, avoiding slightly pricier items like squid or seafood.
After they ordered, Ling Feng estimated that the total of what five people ordered didn’t surpass what he had on his table!
At that instant, Ling Feng’s emotions were stirred, leaving him suddenly bewildered!
Turning to observe everything around—the lights, the crowd, the passing vehicles—the words "Mortal World" suddenly emerged in Ling Feng’s mind.
