The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered
Chapter 160 - 159: Life Is a Stage
Hearing that, Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "We?"
’This is an internal interrogation... It doesn’t seem appropriate for me to go, does it?’
"Yes, we. You and me. I’m just a man who mooches off his woman. I’m so delicate, shouldn’t you come along and protect me? What if this guy suddenly goes berserk and hurts me?" Leo Grant shrugged, his expression one of complete entitlement.
"Fine. Your sugar mama will definitely protect you." Yvonne Lowell didn’t argue further. ’Since the person involved doesn’t even mind, why should I be so coy about it?’
Ian Lynch’s mouth twitched. ’Alright, alright. A moment ago, they were a "somewhat useful boyfriend" and a "normal person," and now they’ve become a "kept man" and a "sugar mama."’
’Just act. Go on and give it your all. All the world’s a stage, and life is full of drama.’
The subordinate standing by also felt a cringey shiver. ’Can you please not make mooching off a woman sound so noble and righteous?! Get a grip, Master!!’
Without waiting for anyone else to react, Leo Grant took Yvonne Lowell’s hand, got into the car Nolan Crawford had driven, and sped off.
The sound of the engine snapped the petrified Nolan Crawford back to his senses. He stomped his feet on the spot. "Holy crap! Isn’t that my car? He just drove off in it! How am I supposed to get back later?!"
"Aren’t there plenty of other cars here? Just pick one, sir. We can even assign you a driver," Ian Lynch said with a shrug.
’I’m the driver, and I was abandoned. Did I say anything?’
’Young Master Crawford only had his car stolen. I was the one who was completely abandoned!’
...
The drive from the Western Suburbs to Lowell Manor was a bit long, so Yvonne Lowell and Leo Grant happened to run into the Lowell brothers, who were just getting home from their outing, right at the entrance.
The brothers shot a glare at the two who had ghosted them, not answering calls or replying to messages, but they didn’t say much and went straight inside.
But Nina Jennings and Zachary Jacobs could tell at a glance that something was off. It wasn’t just that the two had intentionally bailed; they had probably run into trouble on the way.
Yvonne Lowell: ’Thanks for asking. It’s true we ran into trouble, and it’s also true we bailed on purpose.’
Nina Jennings, walking at the very back, shot Yvonne Lowell a look: ’Was there bloodshed just now?’
Yvonne Lowell gave an almost imperceptible nod and gestured with her hand toward Leo Grant beside her: ’They were after him.’
The light of gossip instantly flared in Nina Jennings’s eyes. "So exciting! If I’d known, we would have ridden with you guys. Who were they? What’s their background?"
"Don’t know yet. They only left one alive, and we came straight back," Yvonne Lowell replied with a shrug.
Nina Jennings wrapped an arm around Yvonne Lowell’s shoulder and whispered, "Girl, it looks like your man’s position as the head of G Group is a bit precarious. His enemies are already coming after him."
A glint flashed in Yvonne Lowell’s eyes. ’For some reason, I don’t think he’s being hunted because he’s the head of G Group.’
Before she could reply, Yvonne Lowell felt her hand being lifted, knocking the "claw" off her shoulder. A moment later, she was pulled into the arms of the person beside her.
Leo Grant held her close as he walked inside. "Talk is fine, but keep your hands to yourself."
Nina Jennings: ’...Nice. This scene is so damn familiar.’
...
「That night.」
Leo Grant took Yvonne Lowell to another one of his villas, with Nina Jennings and Zachary Jacobs trailing behind them like a pair of tagalongs.
Their so-called reason: to observe and learn G Group’s interrogation methods.
Leo Grant didn’t refuse. After all, with these two along, the Lowells would be more at ease with his girlfriend being out with him at night.
Leo Grant led Yvonne Lowell to a seat on the sofa. Nina Jennings and Zachary Jacobs didn’t stand on ceremony, finding chairs and plopping down. Nolan Crawford was there next to them.
’Best seats in the house, secured!!!’
Ian Lynch threw the assassin who had kowtowed to her that afternoon, now trussed up like a turkey, in front of them.
"Master, Miss Lowell, this bastard’s lips are sealed tight. We couldn’t get a single word out of him."
Yvonne Lowell glanced at the "human cocoon" and began toying with Leo Grant’s lighter, minding her own business.
’I’m just a bodyguard tonight, here to protect my pretty boy. The interrogation has nothing to do with me.’
’But Leo Grant’s men are really thrifty. They couldn’t even be bothered to use gauze, just tearing some rags off the man’s own clothes to stop the bleeding.’
’Stopping the bleeding while simultaneously inflicting new wounds.’
’The whole vibe is: as long as he doesn’t die, it’s fine.’
Seeing she had no intention of speaking, Leo Grant took over himself, grinding his shiny leather shoe into the man’s wound.
He looked down at the man at his feet, his eyes narrowed, and asked in a low voice, "Who sent you?"
The man’s face grew even paler from the pain, but he kept his lips tightly sealed, not saying a word.
Leo Grant let out a soft chuckle, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes. "Who would’ve thought? A dog with zero loyalty to his teammates can be so protective of his master."
He lifted his foot, raised a hand to activate his superpower, and levitated a silver fruit fork from the table, suspending it above the man’s head.
"There aren’t many organizations with superpower users. Since I’ve got time to kill, why don’t I take a guess? The X Alliance? Nightshade Pavilion? Or... Moonshadow?"
With each organization he named, the fork moved an inch closer to the man’s eye.
The man broke out in a cold sweat, his eyes darting back and forth for a moment. "I’ll talk! I’ll talk! It’s Moonshadow! I’m from Moonshadow!"
Yvonne Lowell’s hands, which had been fiddling with the lighter, paused. She lifted her gaze, a playful look in her eyes as she watched the man.
’Who would’ve thought? I went out looking for some drama and ended up getting a piece of my own.’
The two spectators in the best seats were also stunned for a moment, but seeing how calmly Yvonne Lowell was sitting there, they settled back in to enjoy the show.
Leo Grant raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? But I have no beef with Moonshadow. I’ve never even met your leader. Why the sudden assassination attempt?"
"It’s... because Moonshadow... wants to expand its influence into Continent R. If we can absorb The Shadow Pavilion, then... we can... become the number one power on Continent R."
The man’s speech was broken and halting due to the pain.
Hearing this, Leo Grant said nothing. The silver fork remained floating in mid-air.
Zachary Jacobs couldn’t help but spit out a mouthful of water. ’Leo Grant is the freaking Pavilion Master of The Shadow Pavilion?! The same Shadow Pavilion that’s just a notch below us?! Are they going to fight?!’
Nolan Crawford pulled out two tissues for him and said softly, "You don’t actually believe that, do you? It’s an obvious lie. Even we don’t believe Moonshadow would do something so dirty."
Even Yvonne Lowell was taken aback for a second. G Group and The Shadow Pavilion were two of the most influential entities on Continent R.
’No wonder one mountain could contain two tigers. Turns out it was the same tiger making costume-change videos.’
Seeing his silence and thinking his words had worked, the man was about to add fuel to the fire when he saw Leo Grant turn around and sit back down.
He tugged on Yvonne Lowell’s sleeve, his handsome face, which had been frosty just a moment ago, now looking utterly pitiful.
"Babe, he’s lying to me. Are you just going to sit there and watch me get bullied?"
The man: ’Are you nuts?! You won the fight and you’re still tattling?!’
The onlookers: ’Dude, could you at least wait a second before changing your act?!’
Yvonne Lowell’s eyebrow twitched as she looked at the little schemer beside her. "And you’re so sure he’s lying?"
