Chapter 201 - 200: Continent Lord’s Wife

’I should have just placated her instead of changing the subject. That way, I would have at least only started getting nervous when we landed in Apeiron...’

Seeing the stunned look on his face, Yvonne Lowell wrapped her arms around his neck, the ends of her eyebrows arching slightly.

"Why so quiet? Don’t tell me I scared you, my future... Continent Lord’s Wife?"

Leo Grant snapped back to reality, wrapped his arms around her waist, and said faintly,

"I always knew I’d latched onto someone powerful, but I never expected it to be a solid-gold jackpot like this."

’He’d known from the start that he was living off a woman, and that it was a pretty sweet deal—cushy, comfortable, and more than enough to fill him up. But he had no idea that every damn meal was going to be an imperial feast!’

’Still, being the Continent Lord’s Wife... actually sounds pretty damn good.’

’Maybe... he should just marry into the Lowell Family?’

As he thought this, he voiced the question aloud.

Yvonne Lowell rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Do you think the Lowell Family is short on sons?"

"The Lowell Family isn’t short on sons, that’s true, but they’re short on you. If I marry into the family, I might be able to win the fair maiden’s hand sooner.

Besides, I’d be marrying in with the entire Grant Family fortune. Wouldn’t it be great for everyone? Their inheritances would all get a little bigger."

Leo Grant said this with a completely straight face, his expression showing no sign of falsehood.

"As for our future children, I don’t care what their last name is. It won’t affect whether the elders from both families help raise them. As long as the kid doesn’t get in our way, it’s all the same."

Yvonne Lowell’s lips twitched. ’What a model son he is, a true 24-karat filial specimen. Just handing over the Grant Family’s century-old legacy like that?’

’Never mind whether the Grant Family ancestors could keep from rolling in their graves after hearing that, or if they’d visit him in his dreams tonight just to beat him up.’

’Just the three living elders would probably subject him to the family’s punishment, beat him black and blue, and then strike him from the family registry, right?’

’And the child... Was he not at all afraid of having his oxygen tube pulled when he got old?’

Future Young Grant: That’s right, consider this a tube-pulling warning~ After I pull the plug, I’ll have Mommy take me and remarry (⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)

Leo Grant: Keep talking. You keep talking and believe me, I won’t let you be born.

Future Young Grant: Heh, a kept man doesn’t get to have an opinion ^_^

Yvonne Lowell raised a hand and pinched his mouth, which was about to keep rambling.

"Get all those ridiculous ideas out of your head. Stop thinking about all this nonsense. I was just joking about the ’Continent Lord’s Wife’ thing."

Leo Grant pulled her hand away and retorted, "No way. You’ve already said it. A woman’s word is her bond. So my future as the Continent Lord’s Wife is set in stone."

"Fine. Then Apeiron is Apeiron, and Kingsland is Kingsland. We’ll handle them separately, how about that?" Yvonne Lowell stood on her toes and nuzzled the tip of his nose.

’Just like Moonshadow and the Shadow Pavilion. The same two people, but a different master and mistress.’

Leo Grant gave her a light peck on the lips.

"Alright, we’ll handle them separately. In that case, I’ll be waiting for the day I get to marry you and bring you home."

Yvonne Lowell shot him a look. ’This shameless man. Give him an inch and he’ll take a mile.’

She raised a hand, tracing the contours of his face with her fingertips.

"The truth is, after the three of us left that place, we were taken in by the old man... I mean, the Continent Lord of Apeiron, Kai Preston. He’s my master. I’m sorry, I kept it from you. I originally wanted to wait and take you there myself someday."

Apeiron had always been different for her. It was the place that had given her a second chance at life, a utopia in her heart, and, more importantly, her final and greatest trump card.

It was no exaggeration to say that even if you combined all the businesses she had built over the years, they couldn’t compare to the place and importance Apeiron held in her heart.

Aside from the Four Nights who had come with her from Apeiron, no one in her entire network knew about their connection to the continent.

That’s why she had initially planned to find the right time to take him to Apeiron directly when that day came.

But now that Auntie Dahlia had brought it up and he had asked about it himself, she decided she might as well tell him the truth.

It came down to the same thing: she trusted him, but she trusted her own judgment even more.

Leo Grant caught the "paw" on his face, brought it to his lips, and gave it a gentle bite.

"You never have to say sorry to me. I understand, and I know what you mean."

He would love her, understand her, and believe in her unconditionally, but most importantly, he would respect her.

Leo Grant was also very clear in his heart that if it was something he was meant to know, Yvonne Lowell would definitely tell him. It was just a matter of waiting for the right moment.

Take the matter of Apeiron, for example. Just as she’d said, even if he hadn’t asked today, he would have found out eventually. It was only a question of time.

But if Yvonne Lowell were to go her whole life without telling him, it certainly wouldn’t be her fault. It would mean he hadn’t done something well enough to earn her complete trust.

...

Seeing that it was about time, they decided to head back to the main building to check on things.

They eavesdropped at the door for a moment first. When they heard no more crying from the living room, but rather the sound of laughter and conversation, the group finally entered, relieved.

Sure enough, when they went inside, they saw Auntie Dahlia and her family of three. Although the corners of their eyes were still a little red, their faces were filled with happy smiles.

During the ensuing conversation, Yvonne Lowell also learned about Auntie Dahlia and Uncle Stark’s past.

Uncle Stark used to be a sniper. After retiring from the military, he worked as a bodyguard for a wealthy tycoon in Continent Q.

His life had been relatively uneventful until he met Auntie Dahlia.

Auntie Dahlia was a professional assassin trained by a certain organization. Because she was unwilling to kill innocents, she requested to leave, never expecting them to hunt her down to eliminate her completely.

Just as she was hiding in a corner on the brink of death, she was found by a passing Uncle Stark, who took her in.

They ended up falling for each other while she was recovering from her injuries, and one thing naturally led to another: they fell in love, got their marriage license, got married, and she became pregnant.

Auntie Dahlia didn’t want to stay where they were, fearing that people from the organization would harm them.

So she suggested moving somewhere else to live. Uncle Stark was of course more than willing and planned to resign from his job, citing paternity leave as the reason.

But his employer was unwilling, saying he didn’t feel safe without Uncle Stark by his side.

After dragging it out, the employer proposed that Auntie Dahlia stay and give birth in a hospital he owned, and they could leave after the baby was born.

But the baby was stillborn. On top of that, the years of fighting had taken a severe toll on Auntie Dahlia’s body, making it very difficult for her to ever get pregnant again.

At the time, the wealthy employer had offered to give Auntie Dahlia a job, but her heart was dead, and there is no sorrow greater than that. The two of them left without a word, taking their child’s ashes with them.

Finally, on the road, they met Kai Preston and followed him back to Apeiron.
