The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered

Chapter 290: You Don't Want to Marry Me at All?

  • Next Chapter

Charles Lowell and Caleb Lowell exchanged a look, their eyes filled with worry.

They weren’t worried about the impact on the Lowell family’s business or reputation, but about Yvonne.

“What’s this nonsense about Hell? Our family has never believed in superstitious hocus-pocus. Isn’t he just some shady foreigner? A lone piece of scum like him thinks he can take on the Lowell family’s century-old foundation?”

Concealing the thoughts in his eyes, Charles Lowell patted Yvonne Lowell’s head and said comfortingly,

“It’s fine. We’ll just round up these robots and destroy them. A billion or so is nothing to our family. We’ll just consider it a charitable donation to earn some good karma.”

“Yeah, for your brother, making tens of billions is as easy as blinking,” Caleb Lowell added.

Yvonne Lowell stared at the code still flashing on the screen, a storm brewing in her eyes.

“No. Not only are we releasing these robots, we’re releasing them early. I want him to see with his own eyes how his meticulous scheme goes up in smoke, and how it ends up building a good name and reputation for the Lowell Group instead.”

“Does this mean you already have a plan to deal with it?” Charles Lowell asked, confused.

“I’ll hack into his computer in a bit, change the code, and optimize it while I’m at it. But from his perspective, it will still look like his supposedly seamless plan.”

Yvonne Lowell said calmly, her thumb stroking the back of the laptop.

‘Lance Young, why didn’t you die back then? And why did you disappear in the end? What role did you really play in that place?’

‘But in any case, since you’ve come knocking on death’s door yourself, why don’t we have another contest?’

‘After all, you’re not the only one who’s improved over the years.’

‘Let’s see who gets the last laugh this time, and who will be the one truly in agony.’

“Alright, we’ll do whatever you say and give you our full support. I never thought the Lowell Group would get to release robots with programs personally written by the chairman of Pluto. Isn’t this what you young people on the internet call a… dream collaboration?”

Charles Lowell chuckled, teasing her with a relaxed expression.

“Mhm, let me know when you’re done. I’ll arrange the release date,” Caleb Lowell added.

Besides, any day was a good day for a launch right now. They’d have plenty of excuses to release the new product ahead of schedule.

“Thanks, Dad. Thanks, Big Bro.” Yvonne Lowell bit her lip.

“I know you have a lot of questions, but please give me a little more time. Once I’m mentally prepared, I’ll tell you everything.”

“Don’t you dare. Even if you told me, I wouldn’t want to listen, and I wouldn’t understand it anyway. It’s normal for kids to have secrets when they grow up. Your brothers stopped telling me what was on their minds after they turned five,” Charles Lowell said, draping an arm over her shoulder and leading her forward.

“Your Ms. Sutton is almost done with dinner. Let’s go eat. If we don’t go now, she’ll get upset with me for not helping her serve the food, and I really don’t want to sleep in the guest room tonight.”

Caleb Lowell followed behind them with a smile on his face.

…

After dinner, Yvonne Lowell sat in the study and gave Leo Grant a call.

He picked up quickly. “Sweetheart, have you eaten?”

“Mhm. Have you?” The gloom in Yvonne Lowell’s heart dissipated a little.

“I’m eating now. I’m still at the office. Should I swing by and pick you up in a bit?”

Yvonne Lowell looked at the flashing code on the screen in front of her and said softly,

“I’m not coming back tonight. I ran into a bit of trouble and need to take care of it first.”

The man didn’t press for details, simply asking, “Do you need my help?”

“No need. Let him have his moment. The higher you stand, the harder you fall.”

“Alright, then I’ll just stay at the office tonight. Don’t overwork yourself. Call me anytime if you need anything. I’ll come to the Lowell family’s place to pick you up tomorrow afternoon.”

Leo Grant was fully committed to his role as the perfect, understanding husband.

Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow and teased, “I’m not going back, so you’re not going back either? Are you that clingy?”

“Of course. Wherever you are, I am. It’s called ‘the wife leads, the husband follows.’ Besides, it’s not like I can openly enter your home as a rightful member of the family just yet, can I?”

Hearing this, Yvonne Lowell’s expression turned serious. “Leo Grant, I have something very important to tell you.”

“I’m here. Go ahead,” he said from the other end, clearing his throat. His voice was equally serious.

Far away at Falling Valley Mountain Villa, Leo Grant tensed up for no reason. After all, she only ever called him by his full name when she was angry.

“You can start preparing the proposal and the wedding for me now. And I want a traditional Chinese wedding.”

There was a moment of silence on the other end, as if he couldn’t believe it. “Wh-what do you mean?”

‘Did something go wrong? Did someone leak the plan?! No way…’

“It means that once I’m done with this, we should get married. Or… was everything you said before a lie? You don’t actually want to marry me?”

She had never understood love before, let alone done something like getting married young, which in her past worldview was a shocking, unconventional thing to do.

But after meeting Leo Grant, she realized that if he was the one she’d be spending the rest of her life with, it didn’t seem so bad.

‘Even if the guy had gotten a bit shameless, a bit cheesy, and a bit annoying since they started dating, he won points for that handsome face of his.’

‘It was also mainly because she’d gotten used to him taking care of her. He’d spoiled her palate, and having anyone else attend to her would just feel off.’

“Of course not! I do! I’ve been dreaming of it! I’m just… a little excited…”

“Well, you can take your time being excited. I’m getting back to work.” Without waiting for his reply, she hung up.

‘Though she’d said she wanted to get married on a whim, she didn’t regret it. Besides, she had to give the guy some time to prepare, right?’

After tossing that sweet promise to her man, and giving Zachary Jacobs a quick heads-up on the phone, Yvonne Lowell’s fingers began to fly across the keyboard.

Only after Lance Young was dealt with could the three of them achieve a true rebirth.

…

「Falling Valley Mountain Villa.」

Leo Grant stared at the darkened screen for a long while before breaking into a silly grin, the corners of his mouth threatening to reach the back of his head.

Once he’d had his fill of laughing, he headed downstairs.

The people playing mahjong downstairs had changed to Nolan Crawford and Shawn Lynch. William Lynch, Nina Jennings, and Zachary Jacobs were no longer there.

Nolan Crawford was a little surprised to see him. “Bro, what are you doing down here?”

“I’m going to the backyard. Don’t follow me.” Leo Grant walked straight out without even giving them a glance.

“Hey…” Nolan Crawford was dumbfounded.

“Isn’t it already set up? The flowers won’t arrive until after midnight. What’s he going to do?”

“If you don’t know, how would we?” Ian Lynch said unhurriedly.

“Exactly. The Boss has his reasons. Hurry up and play your tile,” Silas Lynch chimed in.

“Are you trying to rush me to my death?” Nolan Crawford pouted and discarded the tile he had just drawn.

“Mahjong! A pure hand. Thanks, Young Master Crawford.”

Warren Lynch pushed his tiles forward and said with a chuckle.

“Wait, I made a mistake! That doesn’t count!” Nolan Crawford stood up and tried to grab the tile back.

“Hey… Once it’s on the table, it’s final, get it? We don’t pull stunts like that in a friendly game,” Silas Lynch said, pushing him back into his seat.

With just a look, Warren Lynch understood and moved forward, leaving Nolan Crawford completely unable to move.

“Hey, what are you guys doing? Is this a mutiny?!”

Silas Lynch and Ian Lynch swept all four players’ chips into a pile and ran out without looking back, leaving only a single sentence behind,

“Thanks for the late-night snack, Young Master Crawford!”

“Fuck! Let me go!”

Warren Lynch remained unmoved. Only when the others were far away did he release Nolan Crawford and run off himself.
