Chapter 300: I Belong to the Master

“How’s it going? Found anything?”

Caleb Lowell pushed open the office door and asked the man inside.

“Mr. Lowell.” Felix Knight stood up and nodded at him.

“Other than his expression changing after Assistant Grant left, there’s nothing new. I’ve also been monitoring all his devices 24/7 and haven’t found any irregularities.”

Felix Knight had arrived in Kingsland in the early hours of yesterday morning, and today Yvonne Lowell had already dispatched him to Caleb Lowell’s side to accompany him to work.

Caleb Lowell went to the company almost every day, making him the person who had the most frequent contact with Andy. He needed to have adequate security.

Besides, with Felix Knight at The Lowell Group, he could monitor Andy’s every move at all times.

“Have a seat. You work for my sister, so there’s no need for formalities.” Caleb Lowell walked over and sat down across from him.

“Since there are no issues with his electronic devices, could he be making moves offline with cash?”

Felix Knight pondered for a moment. “We can’t rule out the possibility that he’s using cash to bribe someone or send threatening packages. But rest assured, our people are stationed at each of the family homes. They’ll spot any irregularities immediately.”

“That’s good to hear…” Caleb Lowell’s gaze was probing as he asked tentatively,

“By the way, I remember you were the one who delivered something to the Lowell Family estate last year. The atmosphere was quite relaxed when you were chatting then. It seems like you’ve been with her for a long time?”

“I was the first to join her. This is my ninth year,” Felix Knight answered truthfully.

Caleb Lowell nodded in understanding. “In that case, could you tell me anything about her adoptive parents? After all this time, we still haven’t paid them a visit to express our gratitude. We feel quite bad about it.”

“Lowell only has an adoptive father. The Family Head has never married and treats the three of them as his own children.”

After a pause, Felix Knight added,

“As for why he can’t meet with the Lowell Family for now, it’s because the Family Head is extremely busy and has always led a reclusive life. You don’t need to worry about it. He will definitely be there for Lowell’s wedding.”

“Is that so… I have some connections overseas myself. Might I ask for his name? Perhaps I’ve heard of him?”

If his earlier questions were merely probing, Caleb Lowell’s words now were a blatant inquiry.

‘According to Felix Knight, he met Yvonne Lowell when she was around eleven or twelve. Is it possible he knows about her past?’

‘For them to have had such excellent learning conditions and resources after being adopted, Yvonne Lowell’s adoptive father couldn’t be an ordinary person.’

‘But why had they never heard of any prominent family or powerful figure having such outstanding adopted children?’

‘No matter how well hidden, there should have been some clues. Could he be from one of those legendary hidden families?’

‘And what exactly happened during those seven years that would make Yvonne Lowell choose to avoid talking about it with them?’

If Andy hadn’t appeared, he might not have even considered this question. And even if he had, he wouldn’t have felt the need to dig for the whole story.

But now, this dangerous and ruthless character was right under their noses. What could he do to protect his sister?

“I’m sorry, Mr. Lowell. It would be better for Lowell to tell you about this herself.” Felix Knight wore a perfectly calibrated smile.

“I know what you’re really asking, but I truly don’t know the details. Besides, as you said yourself just now, I work for my master.”

Felix Knight’s form of address had shifted directly from ‘Lowell’ to ‘my master’.

‘He gets it. Don’t ask. He really doesn’t know, and even if he did, he wouldn’t say.’

After a moment of silence, he said in a heavy voice, “I understand. I’ll leave Andy to you. I’m going to get back to work.”

With that, Caleb Lowell got up to leave.

Just as he was about to open the door and exit, Felix Knight spoke again.

“Mr. Lowell, if I may be so bold. Sometimes, knowing less is the greatest protection for everyone involved. Don’t you agree?”

Caleb Lowell’s hand tightened on the doorknob. Without a word, he left the office.

Felix Knight rolled his neck, downed the rest of his coffee in one gulp, and muttered to himself while looking at his screen,

“Time to work, time to work. Everyone else is doing a ‘city walk,’ but I’m doing ‘city work.’ Switch cities and still have to work. I was born to toil…”

…

「The Lowell Family Villa.」

Charles Lowell and his family were having lunch when Uncle Grant suddenly walked in, leaned close, and whispered a few words in Charles’s ear.

Charles Lowell’s expression didn’t change. He calmly set down his chopsticks and patted Wendy Sutton’s hand.

“I’m full. You all continue. I have to step out for a bit.”

With that, he left the dining room with Uncle Grant.

“Mom, are Dad and Uncle Grant sharing secrets? He ate one bowl less than usual. What could be so important that it couldn’t wait until after lunch?” Harrison Lowell asked furtively.

Wendy Sutton didn’t even look up. “How should I know? He’s not my dad. Go ask your own dad.”

Harrison Lowell pouted. ‘Such is the time, such is my fate. Poor Harrison’s life is a thankless one.’

Stepping out of the main villa, Charles Lowell looked at the package on the ground, his brows tightly furrowed.

“This just arrived?”

“Yes, an urgent same-city delivery. It’s addressed to you, and the courier checked out. The young miss’s people have also scanned it with their equipment. There are no dangerous goods inside. Do you want to open it?” Uncle Grant asked.

The security detail at the house had been replaced with a new batch of unfamiliar faces a few days ago. Charles Lowell’s explanation to others was that they were new recruits fresh from a training camp, but he knew they were people Yvonne Lowell had arranged.

Moreover, Charles Lowell had told him in advance to report any irregularities or received items to him immediately, without alarming anyone else. Naturally, he connected the dots.

Charles Lowell picked up a utility knife from nearby and sliced open the tape, moving so quickly that Uncle Grant had no time to stop him.

‘Tsk. He’s still as reckless as when he was young!’

Charles Lowell only opened the cardboard box for a glance before quickly closing the lid, his face so cold it looked as if it were coated in frost.

Seeing this, Uncle Grant grew worried. “Family Head?”

‘What did he see? A severed hand? A foot? An eyeball?’

‘But I shook it earlier, and it didn’t sound like that…’

Charles Lowell didn’t answer. He just beckoned to one of the nearby security guards and said,

“Have your people found any similar packages at the other houses?”

“Not yet,” the security guard, who was Colin, replied.

“Alright then. Keep a close watch. If any are received, bring them directly here. And remember, don’t alarm them, especially the elders!”

With that, Charles Lowell sighed. “Tell her, too. If she has time, she should come home.”

“Understood, Patriarch Lowell.” Colin nodded and turned to leave.

Charles Lowell pointed to the box on the ground. “You, take this up to my study through the back door.”

“Right away!” Uncle Grant picked up the box and started to leave.

Charles Lowell didn’t forget to add a warning from behind him, “Remember, you saw nothing.”

“Yes, sir!” Uncle Grant replied.

‘Although… to be fair, I really didn’t see anything!’
