Chapter 318: The Wedding Date is Set

Kai Preston shot her an annoyed glare.

“You little brat! You never listen when I’m being serious with you, but you remember every single angry word I say, don’t you?!”

‘I knew it! A smile that sweet could only mean trouble!’

‘Forgetting to call me ‘old man’ like she usually does is one thing, but to actually use a respectful title!’

‘So she was just waiting for the perfect moment to mess with me! She really can’t stand losing out on anything, can she?!’

Yvonne Lowell blinked innocently.

“Now, don’t you go falsely accusing me. I take every word you say to heart and follow it to the letter.”

Like right now. (⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)

‘If you like losing out, then by all means, go ahead. I, for one, do not.’ ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Charles Lowell’s gaze toward Kai Preston held a mixture of sympathy and amusement.

‘Thank goodness. It wasn’t just him; she gave everyone a hard time.’

The thought immediately made him feel much better.

Kai Preston: ‘Have you ever considered that she came with faulty factory settings?’

‘And another thing! If I don’t drink you under the table tonight, kid, I’m not sleeping!’

Leo Grant suppressed the smile in his eyes and said with a serious expression,

“Elders, I’ve already begun the wedding preparations. But I want to give Yvonne the absolute best. Creating the traditional Chinese wedding attire will take time, as will traveling for our photoshoot. So, my idea is to set the wedding for early spring next year. The weather will be neither too cold nor too hot, which will be more comfortable for Yvonne in her wedding dress. What do you all think?”

The elders looked at one another, and with no one voicing any objections, it was taken as a collective agreement.

As for her other brothers, it didn’t matter. No one cared about their opinions.

Old Mr. Lowell pondered for a moment before speaking.

“Since you’ve decided on a wedding in early spring, why don’t you go ahead and get your marriage certificate at the end of this year.”

Leo Grant whipped his head around, a look of being overwhelmingly flattered in his eyes.

“Is… is that really okay?”

Hearing this, Mrs. Grant turned her head away. ‘This foolish child, I can’t even bear to look at him.’

‘Look at him. How does he manage to be so timid and so impatient at the same time?’

Leo Grant: ‘Of course… it’s an act.’

“What, not real? You want it well-done?” Old Mr. Lowell shot him a sidelong glance.

“What? You think it’s too soon? In that case, should we push back the wedding date too?”

‘Don’t think I don’t know what this kid is plotting. It’s true that he’s considering the climate and Nola’s well-being, but isn’t it also true that he perfectly guessed our family’s intentions?’

‘Our family would never agree to let this young couple have a wedding before getting their certificate. The only auspicious date before early spring is at the end of the year, so he must have chosen early spring on purpose.’

‘Pah! Devious schemer! Conniving brat! Good for nothing!’

Leo Grant naturally understood his meaning and replied with an unfazed expression,

“Of course it’s real! Eating things too well-done can make you irritable, so there’s no need to push it back. We’ll do as you say, Grandpa. We’ll get our certificate at the end of the year.”

‘Old fox versus young fox. The young fox wins this round, hands down!!!’

‘Heh, calling me ‘Grandpa’ already. The shameless brat!’

Old Mr. Lowell snorted but didn’t expose his ploy.

Grandma Sutton’s interest was piqued.

“Listening to what Leo just said, have you two decided on a traditional Chinese wedding?”

“Yes, that’s my idea,” Yvonne Lowell said.

‘Both Western and Chinese-style weddings have their own beauty, but the beauty of a traditional Chinese wedding is profoundly striking.’

‘The process and scenic design are a bit more complex, but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime event. If we’re going to do it, we might as well go big.’

“A Chinese wedding is wonderful! The ‘ten-mile red dowry,’ the ‘phoenix coronet and robes of rank,’ the ‘high-lit red candles,’ the ‘drinking with your lord’… it’s all so much more elegant and solemn. Besides, your grandmother and I have been through it, so we’re familiar with the procedures.”

Grandma Lowell chimed in.

“Yes, I was thinking the same thing.” Yvonne Lowell walked over, linked arms with the two old ladies, and said softly,

“And I want to design the wedding dress myself. When the time comes, I’ll have to trouble you two distinguished ladies to help me check over the details of the attire.”

She had already planned on designing the wedding dress herself.

Although her original intention for creating ilpianeta was to make money, and she initially catered to the masses by producing mostly Western-style formal wear…

…she had always preferred things with Chinese elements, so after she became famous, she started releasing Chinese-style designs.

She had even tried sketching a few Chinese traditional-style series, and the response had been exceptionally good.

So she was confident she could design a one-of-a-kind wedding dress for herself, and throw in a matching men’s outfit as well.

Leo Grant: ‘…Should I be overwhelmingly flattered, or should I be overwhelmingly flattered? Whatever, I’ll just thank her on my knees tonight!’

Grandma Lowell gently poked her on the forehead with a fingertip.

“Design it yourself? You have that skill?”

“Well, I’m not the most talented, but I am a somewhat well-known designer,” Yvonne Lowell said.

Leo Grant’s temple twitched when he heard that. ‘Although, going by his fiancée’s standard of ‘it’s no big deal,’ Master Y could indeed only be considered ‘somewhat’ well-known…’

Behind her, Harrison Lowell stared at her with a look of astonishment.

“Can you even pull it off, Yvonne? You, a designer?! What’s your professional name? Let me hear it.”

He had never heard of any designer associated with his sister.

‘Wait a minute… Don’t tell me she suddenly got cold feet and is just making up excuses?’

“Get away from here! You troublesome boy!”

Grandma Sutton smacked him irritably before looking back at Yvonne Lowell, not letting him spoil the mood.

“If you want to design it yourself, go ahead and try sketching some drafts. We can see if anything needs to be changed later. Anyway, there’s plenty of time right now. Also, your grandma and I already found a familiar old master craftsman a long time ago. We were planning to have a set of Longfeng Gua handmade for you, so you can skip that one.”

“Okay, I understand.”

After speaking, Yvonne Lowell shot a deep look at her dear second brother.

‘Once she’s done with the important stuff, she’ll give him a little shock. Hopefully, the roof will be able to withstand the decibels of his shout.’

Harrison Lowell: ‘The AC in the living room seems a little low… There’s a chill down my spine…’

Meanwhile, Wendy Sutton and Mrs. Grant were also chatting about the wedding details, completely engrossed and enthusiastic.

Across their respective wives, Charles Lowell and Mr. Grant exchanged a look. Each saw in the other’s eyes the sympathy of a fellow sufferer.

‘Oh well, after so many years, they should be used to it by now…’

‘Used to it my ass! There’s no getting used to this at all!!’

Seeing that they had settled the matter of the wedding attire, Old Mr. Lowell tapped the table and said,

“Then it’s settled. Get the certificate at the end of the year, and hold the wedding next March. Although the wedding is primarily the groom’s family’s responsibility, our family must also contribute. When the time comes, if you need any help, Leo, just find those young ones. Grab whichever one is free.”

“Yes, I understand, Grandpa,” Leo Grant replied humbly.

The young ones: ‘…Excuse me, were we consulted?!’

‘And you! What do you understand?! Is that any way to treat your brothers-in-law?! Huh!!’
