Chapter 152: Chapter - 152 - Absolute Dominion

The assassin screamed. Then he talked.

"Queen Veyra," he gasped, his breath coming in ragged, painful hitches as the pressure on his throat loosened. "She sent us. She said Princess Zaria was threatening the succession... She said she had to be eliminated before the Council meets."

Lucien’s gaze remained cold, unreadable, and utterly untamed. "Where were you supposed to strike?"

"The safe house. The princess’s chambers. Anywhere she was vulnerable." The man’s voice cracked, raw with fear and the lingering phantom of agony. "We were told to kill her first. Then you were secondary. She wanted her dead before you could influence the King any further."

Lucien withdrew his hand. The assassin slumped onto the cold stone floor, unconscious, breathing heavily, but alive.

"You’re letting him live?" Vex asked, stepping out from the shadows. Her eyes were wide, her pulse visibly fluttering against the delicate skin of her throat as she looked from the collapsed man to Lucien.

"I’m letting one of them live." Lucien stood up, smoothing the front of his dark robes without a single wasted movement. "I’m going to release him. He’ll run back to the Queen and tell her everything that happened here tonight. He’ll tell her that her assassins failed, that I knew they were coming long before they even set foot in this corridor, and that I am completely beyond her reach."

"And that will accomplish what, exactly?"

"Fear." Lucien smiled, a low, dangerous curve of his lips that sent a ripple of static through the small room. "The Queen has been playing games with me since the moment I arrived. She thinks she’s dealing with a clever mortal—someone she can outmaneuver if she just throws enough time, gold, and blood at the problem. I’m going to show her that she’s not. I’m going to show her that I’ve been playing a different game entirely."

He gestured vaguely toward the scattered bodies of the fallen assassins lying in awkward, bloody angles across the floor. "Clean these up. Then get some rest. Tomorrow, we take the court. We still have a lot of work to do."

Before he left, Lucien stepped back over the trembling, semi-conscious survivor. He leaned down, pressing a single finger to the man’s forehead, pressing deeper into his mind to wring out every last drop of useful information. He demanded the names, the hidden debts, and the secret affiliations of every single noble currently backing Queen Veyra. Name after name fell from the man’s bloody lips until Lucien had everything he needed. Without another word, Lucien turned and vanished into the darkness of the night, leaving behind only the lingering scent of ozone and power.

Left alone in the quiet chamber, Vex stood amidst the fallen bodies. Her chest rose and fell in rapid, shallow breaths. She wasn’t scared; she was intensely, overwhelmingly intoxicated.

In a world driven by raw force, power was the ultimate aphrodisiac, and Vex craved it with every fiber of her being. Watching Lucien move—seeing the sheer, effortless dominance with which he commanded life and death—sent a fierce, throbbing wave of heat surging directly into her lower abdomen. Her body felt impossibly warm, flushed with a feverish spike of adrenaline and desire.

His low, dangerous voice lingered in her ears, echoing like a siren song. Every command he uttered felt less like an order and more like a mark of possession. The dark, untamed authority radiating from him made her knees tremble, pulling her into a breathless whirlpool of adoration. She felt an overwhelming, almost wild urge to throw herself at his feet, to surrender every inch of her body and soul to him, to be consumed by whatever dark empire he was building.

Her breath hitched as her hand trembled, her fingers involuntarily sliding down past her waist, slipping beneath the fabric of her clothing. She gasped, a soft, whimpering sound escaping her lips as her fingers sank directly into the soaking, slick heat between her thighs. The warmth radiating from her damp center was scorching. Every touch made her hips twitch with an aching, desperate hunger.

Her mind spiraled into wild, vivid flashes of the night Lucien had spent wrapped around Zaria—imagining his heavy hands gripping the princess’s hips, his hard, unforgiving body pinning her down, taking her, marking her, filling her completely until she could only say his name. The thought of his dark strength invading her own body, claiming her with that same ruthless intensity, made the tight knot between Vex’s legs throb with unbearable, intoxicating agony. She rubbed herself faster, her breath coming in ragged, desperate gasps as her body thrilled to the forbidden fantasy of his touch.

I can’t wait much longer, Vex thought, her inner core pulsing around her sliding fingers in a heavy, restless rhythm. I want to be part of his world too... I want his hands on me. I want his mark on me. Will he reject me? Will he take me until I break? I wonder...

The sheer intensity of her own arousal shocked her back to reality. Her skin burning red, her chest heaving as she pulled her damp, trembling hand away, she suddenly slapped herself hard across the face with a sharp, echoing crack.

"Focus, Vex. Focus," she whispered frantically to herself, her pulse hammering against her ribs like a trapped beast. "We still have a lot of work to do."

By dawn, half the court had switched sides.

Lucien had planned the entire operation with terrifying precision. The information wrung from the assassin had provided exact names, locations, and crippling weaknesses. Queen Veyra’s key supporters among the court officials—the ones who had accepted her heavy purses of gold, who had turned a blind eye to the slow poison weakening the King, who had quietly smoothed her path to ultimate authority—were now completely exposed.

In the deepest hours of the night, Lucien dispatched Vex and Zaria to pay a personal visit to each official. They arrived unannounced in the quiet privacy of dark bedchambers, presenting every cornered noble with a brutal, simple choice: publicly confess their treachery and swear absolute allegiance to Princess Zaria, or be stripped of their titles, exposed, and executed before the sun set.

Faced with absolute ruin, the choice was effortless.

[Previous night]

Hours before the sky broke into grey, Lucien had sat alone, calling upon his system interface. His eyes scanned through rows of esoteric skills, searching specifically for a binding technique—something absolute that could chain the souls of those who were unwilling, turning treacherous men into undeniable servants. He already possessed raw strength and an army in the making, and Princess Zaria was practically unraveling at his feet, desperate to keep him by her side. But to secure a kingdom without burning it to the ground, he needed a tighter leash.

His eyes locked onto a specific skill.

Soul Binding Seal... This seems useful for a situation like this. It’s been a while since I spent my soul points on anything other than upgrading my ancient abilities, but this is too practical to pass up.

[Soul Binding Skill]

[A mystical seal imprinted upon a target’s soul, establishing a spiritual connection between the caster and the target. Once the seal is successfully established, the caster can sense the target’s general location and communicate through a limited spiritual link. The seal can enforce commands and inflict spiritual pain if the target deliberately violates the binding contract. However, it cannot completely control the target’s thoughts or eliminate their free will.]

Lucien hummed softly, considering the parameters. It doesn’t eradicate their free will... Not that I strictly need a room full of mindless puppets right now, but if I push it further, I can turn this into something absolute.

With a single thought, he finalized the exchange.

[Soul Binding Skill added.]

Upgrade it, he commanded internally.

[Soul Binding Skill -> Absolute Soul Dominion]

[If the target attempts to break the binding or commit an act of direct betrayal, their cultivation, spiritual meridians, and deep internal foundation will be instantly and violently shattered. Grants the caster absolute, overriding command over the target’s fundamental willpower when invoked.]

A slow, dark smile touched Lucien’s lips. Now that’s something.

[Next Morning]

By the time the golden light of the morning sun broke over the spires of Valcour, seventeen prominent court officials had already stepped forward to publicly abandon Queen Veyra. They stood in the central courtyard before the palace, their voices trembling as they proclaimed to the gathered crowd that they had been tragically "misled" by the Queen’s deception, but now clearly saw the divine truth and righteousness behind Princess Zaria’s ascension.

High above on her private balcony, Queen Veyra watched the spectacle unfold.

Her fingers dug so violently into the stone railing that her manicured nails cracked, drawing tiny beads of crimson onto the cold marble. Her face was chalk-white, her lips stretched into a thin, bloodless line of suffocating, blinding fury. A sickening, icy dread pooled deep within her chest, suffocating her breath. Everything she had painstakingly built—every bribe, every quiet murder, every subtle political maneuver over decades of ruthlessness—was dissolving right before her eyes within a single morning.

She was being stripped bare, isolated, and discarded like trash by an unknown monster moving in the dark. Panic clawed at her throat, sharp and suffocating. Her noble blood boiled with humiliated rage as she looked down at the traitorous court nobles who had fed from her hand only hours ago, now singing Zaria’s praises to save their own skins.

Below, hidden deep within the shadows of the courtyard, Lucien watched the scene with a quiet glass of spiced wine resting casually in his hand.

Vex tracked him down a short while later, finding him tucked away in the secluded garden behind the safe house. He was leaning back comfortably beneath the sprawling branches of an ancient cherry tree, lazily watching the pink petals drift down through the morning breeze.

"You just turned half the court in a single night," Vex said, her tone filled with breathless wonder as she sat down on the grass right beside him. Her eyes lingered on the line of his throat, the casual posture of a man who held the entire city in the palm of his hand. "I’ve never seen anything like it."

"I’m efficient," Lucien replied softly. He turned his head and offered her his glass.

Vex took it, her fingers intentionally brushing against his as she took a slow, deliberate sip. The warm liquid traced down her throat, but it was his proximity that made her skin tingle. She handed the glass back, leaning in just a fraction closer than necessary.

"What did you really do to them?" she asked, her voice dropping into a low, intimate purr. "The officials who switched sides... After Zaria and I threatened them, you stayed behind and spoke with each of them alone for a few minutes. What did you do to them, Lucien?"

"Soul Binding Seal," Lucien answered casually, setting the glass down on the grass. "A technique I picked up during my travels. It isn’t total mind control—they retain their free will, their personalities, their selfish little ambitions. But if they ever attempt to betray me or step out of line, the pact triggers automatically. It will instantly tear their spiritual foundation to shreds and destroy their cultivation permanently."

Vex stared at him, a shiver running down her spine that was equal parts terror and intoxicating thrill. "That’s terrifying."

"I prefer ’effective,’" he said smoothly, taking another sip. "They know the exact consequences. They made their choice with full awareness of what was at stake. And the ones who refused to bow... well, they’re no longer a problem."

"You killed them?" Vex murmured, her eyes dark, her cheeks flushing a deep, radiant pink. She looked at him with an intense, raw admiration that bordered on total devotion. "You really are something."

"I am something," Lucien agreed, his gaze locking onto hers for a fleeting, heavy second that made her heart skip a beat. "But more importantly, what I am is useful to Zaria. That’s all that matters right now. Anyone who dares stand between her and the throne will meet a short, painful end."

Queen Veyra was now completely isolated.

Her political network had fractured overnight. Her key supporters had either publicly deserted her or been quietly dragged off to the dungeons. Her son was entirely useless—a spineless coward who had been granted an audience with the King to salvage their position, only to completely fall apart under pressure, blubbering and defensive when confronted. To make matters worse, her husband, the King, was finally awake. His strength was returning, his eyes burning with furious vengeance, and he had made it abundantly clear to the entire royal guard that he intended to see Veyra answer personally for every poison and treason she had orchestrated.

She paced back and forth across her grand, silent chambers, her heavy silk gowns swishing hysterically against the marble floor. Her chest heaved with shallow, frantic breaths, her blood pounding so loudly in her ears that she could barely think. She was cornered. trapped. The shadows of the room felt like they were reaching for her neck.

Yet, despite the walls closing in and her realm crumbling around her feet, Veyra refused to bow. She still had one final, desperate card to play.

The Sunfire Temple.

Deep within her chambers, behind a hidden panel, she retrieved an ancient, heavily guarded communication artifact—a secret she had kept hidden from the entire court, even her own personal network of spies. Her hands shook violently as she activated the glowing artifact, her eyes wild with the desperate, burning craze of a woman who had nothing left to lose.

With trembling fingers, she poured her power into the artifact and sent out a single, urgent message across the spiritual light:

Princess Zaria is utilizing forbidden, demonic techniques to corrupt and enslave the royal court. The kingdom is plunged into a dire spiritual crisis. The Sunfire Temple must intervene immediately.

It was a reckless, suicidal gamble. The Sunfire Temple was an incredibly powerful religious sect, wielding immense cultivation strength and political influence that stretched across the entire continent. If their high inquisitors decided to march on the capital to investigate, they would bring a divine force capable of causing massive complications—problems that even Lucien might find difficult to sweep away cleanly.

Queen Veyra was out of options, cornered and bleeding power. She was betting her life, her crown, and the entire kingdom on one final, explosive play.
