The Innkeeper
Chapter 2452: Grand a**kicking
"It’s pointless, you cannot win," said the Grand Conqueror arrogantly, looking at the group constantly attacking him. They had been at an impasse for weeks at a time, with a few small breaks in between when he managed to temporarily get away from them. Due to the difference in the flow of time, the war in the Conquest had been going on for months already!
This fight had been the most frustrating he’d had since he got his system because that woman from the Inn - the one leading the invasion - could do something he’d never experienced before. She could cause him to disconnect from his system!
In truth, even she did not know or understand what she was doing - that much the Grand Conqueror understood. However, she had an ability which interfered with all communication to cripple him and prevent him from contacting reinforcements. Whenever she used that ability, contact between him and his system would be severed too!
The issue was that while his defense was generally invincible, his attack was severely lacking. He normally made up for that by summoning the many soldiers and warriors that worked for him, not to mention his special bodyguards and assassins. Unfortunately, some of them had been killed, while others were out of reach because the system could not be used long enough to call them over.
None bothered to reply to him for they were too focused on trying to capture him. If they couldn’t defeat him, then capturing him for interrogation would be good enough. Yet it was not as if there was no response to his words at all.
There was a single clap of thunder high up in the sky above the Conquest realm so loud that it spread across the entire realm, causing not just the ground to shake, but the very laws of the realm. Shocked, they looked up in the sky and found that not a single cloud was left. Instead, all they saw was a clear blue sky.
But there was not a single soul across the entire realm, native or invader alike, who could enjoy the clear blue sky for what had replaced the clouds were cracks. Above the entire Conquest realm, in the sky, space had cracked.
That clap of thunder was not, in fact, thunder. Instead it was the sound of space breaking. There were too many who could only look up in horror and wonder what had caused such destruction, but the Grand Conqueror and the rest did not need to wonder.
Right above them, in the center of the cracks, stood Lex. By now he had somewhat trimmed his beard and cleaned up its shape. It didn’t look bad - though the only person in the entire realm noticing Lex’s beard was Moon. Everyone else was looking at his feet which stood upon the cracks spread across the realm.
"I heard... that you folk like conquest," said Lex, his voice completely casual, yet it rang in everyone’s mind. His gaze wandered around the realm beneath him until his eyes finally locked onto the Grand Conqueror. A glance was all Lex needed to recognize the Regal Embrace, but the knowledge did not cause the slightest ripple in his mind.
"I thought that maybe I’d try my hand at it."
Before the Grand Conqueror could even process those words he felt something hit him in the face. His body slammed into the ground with such force that the tectonic plate upon which he stood began to fracture.
Massive cracks spread across the entire continent, spreading faster than people could escape them. A soldier fell into one of the cracks and a deep, overwhelming fear gripped his chest as he looked into the darkness where he was falling. A moment later, when the warm glow of rising and erupting magma illuminated the crack, the soldier found that he had much preferred the darkness.
All across the Conquest realm, dormant volcanoes became active and new volcanos formed where there had never been any before as torrents of lava shot into the sky.
Lex turned to Velma and handed her a list.
"You think you can get the devils to send me to these realms after this?" Lex asked, skipping all the small talk.
Velma blinked as she looked at the list with over a dozen realms, most of them immature realms like the Conquest realm.
"It shouldn’t be a problem, but why these?" she asked, even as she began to arrange everything.
Lex glanced at the others and found that they were mostly unhurt, which was a relief.
"I have about 37,000 seconds to retaliate for the invasion of the Inn. It’s not enough to track all the ones responsible, but it should be enough to let the Humanoid Alliance understand what happens when they mess with us."
Velma nodded, not asking any more questions. The time limit sounded urgent, and the fact that Lex wasn’t cracking any jokes showed just how serious he was.
Lex spotted the Grand Conqueror, using the fact that his body was buried deep inside the ground to run. Lex ignored him and pulled out the Innkeeper’s Business card and threw it into the air.
Far up in the air, at the very peak of the realms limits, a projection of the Innkeeper appeared with the business card as his core.
The Innkeeper, as always, looked particularly dashing, though his warm demeanor and soft smile seemed very misplaced given his surroundings.
"If the alliance, or any Dao Lord interferes after this, then do not blame me when my reaction is not proportional. With so many Major realms disappearing left, right, and center, a few more missing realms won’t matter."
He was not looking at anyone in particular when he spoke, nor did he even try to send out his words to anyone. It was as if he wasn’t speaking to anyone in particular at all.
A few moments later, however, a vague figure appeared in front of him.
"Are you trying to declare war on the alliance?" he asked aggressively.
The Innkeeper looked at him with an amused smile, and then snorted, his figure beginning to fade away.
"A mere alliance, can you even afford to pick a fight with me?"
The Innkeeper disappeared, and though the figure tried, he could not trace or detect the Innkeepers power at all. It was as if what was in front of him was genuinely an illusion. But illusions did not have that kind of aura.
The figure looked down at the continent and found that the human Lex was looking up right at him. The figure disappeared, not doing anything.
Lex did not breathe a sigh of relief. He showed no signs of concern at all. Internally, however, he felt extremely relieved.
Then he turned back towards the Grand Conqueror. It was time for a grand asskicking.
