Chapter 2035: Send More of Your Warriors

  • Next Chapter

It was a troublesome situation indeed, and Rex couldn’t blame High Lord Rashal.

A man, no matter how strong, would always have a soft spot for their spouse. That’s purely nature doing its work. High Lord Rashal could argue or even disregard his wives’ opinion, but he didn’t seem to want to do that.

More importantly, from the way Elizabeth talked, it seemed she had influence, too.

Someone who could put High Lord Rashal in a difficult position in Larta City.

A person could be read through how they carry themselves.

From what Rex had gathered in the span of a few seconds of observing High Lord Rashal’s wives, the blond woman was more like Gistella. She has a dotting and docile nature, but there was great influence behind that front that wielded a strong force to sway High Lord Rashal’s heart.

On the other hand, the white-haired woman is a combination of Calidora and Evelyn.

Stubborn, extremely persistent, and wielding considerable influence.

Someone who wouldn’t be easily swayed by words.

Naturally, in order to convince her to back down, High Lord Rashal needed Rex’s help.

Needing him to show her the reason why he chose Rex as his warrior for the Purgation Duel.

And Rex has no problem doing that.

"Pick one of these victims. I didn’t care which one." Rex said tauntingly.

His tone made Elizabeth’s brows narrow, and she looked like she was about to pounce on him. It was infuriating for a stranger who didn’t have a place in Larta City to talk to her like this. Had it not for High Lord Rashal’s approval, she would’ve executed him right now.

"Time is not on our side, Elizabeth," Rex said, surprising Elizabeth as she didn’t know that Rex already knew her name. He only knew her name now after scanning her with the System. "Don’t waste precious time that otherwise could be spent strategizing for the upcoming Purgation Duel.

"In case you forgot, this involved the future of your husband. Unless you wanted him to die, of course."

"How dare you?" Elizabeth’s entire body trembled in anger.

But she was strong enough to hold it in and turned sharply to look at two High Millinars.

Her chosen warriors.

Rex turned towards Davina, Lilliana, and Vadyn—gesturing for them to step aside with his eyes.

"Are you sure you’re going to take this route?" Lilliana asked.

"Look at her." Rex glanced at Elizabeth from over his shoulder, and then looked away again. "Does she look like someone who’d back down without being proven absolutely wrong? She’s like Davina, but as old as you. A deadly mixture."

"Hey!" Davina smacked her lips in displeasure. "Don’t compare me to anyone ever again.

"Did you imply that I’m old?" Lilliana asked—her lips curled into a deadly smile.

Rex chuckled a little, realizing that he said the wrong things.

"Make it quick, will you?" Vadyn also chuckled at what he said. "I can’t stand that grumpy aunty."

Rex nodded and turned around again.

As he faced forward—a frown crept onto his face. Two High Millinars were stripping off their uniforms, down to fitted red shirts that clung to their big frames. Both were powerfully built, and their eyes carried the same weight Rex recognised. Men who had seen as much blood as he had.

Perhaps even more.

"Really?" Rex shifted his gaze towards Elizabeth. "Two High Millinars at the same time?"

"What? Are you not confident of beating them?" Elizabeth crossed her arms and sneered. Her chin was held so high—that it was almost like she was looking at the sky. "A warrior who could fight alongside High Lord Rashal could at least do this much. But alas, as long as you admit defeat right now, I won’t hold it against you."

"Who said I’m not confident?’

"Hm?"

"I’m worried that beating the two of you at once might embarrass the Red Skull Elite Force." Rex picked at his ear, utterly relaxed—as if the two High Millinars were not standing ready to kill him. "The others might resent you for making them look bad."

"Arrogant!"

"Don’t worry about that," A High Millinar with dark skin and heterochromia eyes, High Millinar Eddy, said—as he fixed the glove on his right hand. It hummed with energy once he did that. "We also wanted to see why you’re chosen instead of us."

"If that’s the case, I have no complaints." Rex shrugged.

Just then, High Lord Rashal stepped forward.

"Do not use your destructive abilities or Laws. Keep the battle simple." He declared with a commanding tone, setting the rules of the bout to make sure none of them died. "All of you are physically strong֫, so use that strictly."

"Do you also agree with that?" Rex turned to Elizabeth with a teasing smile. "I mean, I don’t want you to have an excuse later after I beat these two."

"I don’t mind that," Elizabeth replied coldly. "Back your words and fight."

Kaboom—!

Responding almost instantly, the air ignited. The two High Millinars exploded with power. Both of their auras roared to life in twin columns of searing energy—that shot skyward and made the very gravity in the rooftop tremble.

Underneath, the concrete ground groaned, and the air grew thick and heavy.

It was saturated with the raw pressure of their combined might.

Both were two-star Awakened Demigods, warriors forged in centuries of battle, and even with the limit set in place by High Lord Rashal, their presence alone could shake the entire place. Seeing such might, Rex would praise them.

However, now is not the time for that.

Rex watched the columns of power rise, then contract, pulling back into their bodies—and condensing into a thin, shimmering layer that coated them—like a second skin. It was immortal energy. Something that has been a thorn to him for quite some time.

It was the mark of true Demigods.

Or at least in Rex’s understanding, as he was never one before meeting Aylith.

And it pulsed across their forms with a deadly, contained grace.

Even the distortion field surrounding the area flickered—reacting to the sheer force of their auras. Just three days ago, Rex would have been overwhelmed. Just three days ago, he couldn’t even feel immortal energy, let alone wield it. Just three days ago, these two would have crushed him without effort.

But that was three days ago.

Now, Rex stood his ground. His knees didn’t tremble. His chest didn’t tighten. His will didn’t waver.

No matter how hard the crushing weight of their combined might washed over him, he barely felt it.

Not long ago—he had been deliberating whether he could even become a God. Not long ago, the idea of killing Kaiser and the hostile Lunirich Gods had felt like a distant, impossible dream. Now, he stood in front of two powerful Demigods, and the pressure they exuded was little more than a breeze.

Only now did the realization strike like a cold wave.

He had grown far stronger than he had ever imagined.

A slow, manic smile spread across his lips as he combed his black hair back, the gesture almost lazy.

He looked like a madman infatuated with power.

And then, with an ease that made the two High Millinars’ eyes widen in shock—a second layer of skin emerged across his body. Crimson. It was immortal energy, and it coated him as naturally as breathing. Unlike them, he didn’t need to concentrate or strain.

His control over immortal energy was terrifying.

And the two warriors exchanged a quick glance of disbelief.

"Come on then," Rex gestured for them to come with his hand. "Attack me with all you got."

Just then, Elizabeth’s voice rang out, sharp and commanding.

"Break him now!" She roared.

Both High Millinars snapped from their daze and struck.

They came at once, a synchronized storm of fists and feet, their movements precise and relentless.

An endless onslaught of punches rained down on Rex—each one carried the weight of their condensed immortal energy. He blocked. He parried. A kick aimed at his midsection was deflected with a sweep of his forearm. A low sweep came next, and he simply leaned back, shifting his center of gravity, lifting his foot just enough to let the attack pass beneath him.

From the brief exchange, Rex could tell that they were experts.

Masters of physical combat, warriors who had spent centuries perfecting the art of the fist.

Perhaps that was the reason Elizabeth chose them.

She knew High Lord Rashal and anticipated him suggesting this limited rule to make the fight quick.

So, she chose these two.

Had it been anyone else, the heavy pressure from two experts would be overwhelming.

But Rex was a Greater Lycan now. His senses were beyond anything they could imagine. Every shift in their weight, every twitch of muscle, every change in their breathing—he saw it all, sensed it all, even before the attacks began.

Of course, their skills were formidable, but they never fought something like him.

Other than his far superior senses, his reflexes were supernatural even for Demigods like them.

And that gave him an unfair edge, and he intended to exploit it to the fullest.

The two High Millinars pressed harder, their attacks growing more desperate, but Rex only smiled. This was no longer a fight. He had calculated their attack patterns, shifting patterns—and mind tricks. It was time to strike back.

Bam—!

Rex caught both fists that aimed at his face, stopping them dead in their tracks.

He pulled them down and looked at the High Millinars in the eyes.

"Both of your skills are admirable. Both of you clearly know how to fight—but I’m confused. Why are you not attacking all my vital spots?" Rex tilted his head, and without warning, he slapped their arms away and leaned in to attack.

Seeing his clenched fist, High Millinar Eddy prepared for a punch.

But then, a sharp, excruciating pain lanced through his crotch.

Rex’s foot slammed into his family jewels, causing him to stumble like a cut-down tree.

"Raargghk!!"

He screamed and shifted on the ground.

Giving no time for the other High Millinar to react, Rex quickly engaged.

The High Millinar dropped his arms into position, guarding his midsection with textbook precision. He leaned back just enough while keeping his anchor point. It was the reaction of a true expert—refined, disciplined, and, in some ways, easier to predict than a fool’s recklessness.

Normally, it would be hard to break this kind of fighter.

But right now, he has the superiority in physical strength.

Lowering his arms was all Rex needed. He stepped in, closing the distance in an instant, and launched a punch straight down the center with lightning speed. The High Millinar saw it coming and reacted well—but his arms were already too low.

Raising them again took a fraction too long.

Perhaps only by a split second, but that split second was all Rex needed.

Crack—!

Rex’s knuckles slammed into his throat and crushed his airway.

Surprise crept to the High Millinar’s face as he tried to gasp but couldn’t.

And before he knew it, a fist slammed into his stomach, dropping him to his knees as he choked.

Rex caught him by his hair before he could fall as he looked at Elizabeth again. "Do you hear that?" He asked, smirking devilishly, and let the silence stretch to make sure she heard the choking and groaning of both High Millinars. "That is the sound of your warriors’ defeat. It only took one hit each. It only took me a few seconds to reduce them from upstanding generals to... this."

Elizabeth looked at her High Millinars, one groaning in pain and the other choking.

This wasn’t what she had in mind.

Rex then pushed the High Millinar aside, letting him fall while still maintaining eye contact.

And then, he spread his arms to the side, as if presenting himself.

"Come now, Elizabeth. Send more of your warriors. Didn’t you come here to see why I was chosen by your husband?"
