The Kitty Became a Cutie and Was Pampered in the 80s
Chapter 2333
Chapter 2333: Chapter 2333
They arrived at the Yang Family’s place at around four in the afternoon. Before Ruan Jiaojiao got out of the car, she fumbled around for quite a while, thinking about where to hide the money, as if the moment she stepped out, someone would steal it away.
Walking ahead, Ruan Lei couldn’t stand the sight of her like this and said, half annoyed and half amused, "Is our family short of your money or something? It’s just a thousand yuan, is it really that serious?"
Ruan Jiaojiao huffed and shook her head. "You don’t get it." In the end, she stuffed the money into the briefcase Duan Xi had placed beside him.
Duan Xi glanced at the big red envelope she’d shoved over, the corner of his mouth curling ever so slightly, and remembered what she’d said before. His whole body seemed to give off a pleasant, satisfied air.
Yang Hong was a little intimidated by Duan Xi. Even though he’d never had any thoughts about stealing someone else’s girl, every time he so much as looked at Ruan Jiaojiao, he felt this man’s gaze turn especially cold, so the moment they entered the house, he hurried straight into the kitchen.
It was Ruan Lei’s first time at the Yang Family’s home, and he was actually a bit nervous. He looked around for a while, then decided he should probably behave himself and make a good impression, so he followed Yang Hong into the kitchen.
Ruan Jiaojiao, on the other hand, tugged Duan Xi down onto the sofa with her, scrolling through the photos Yang Tao and Ruan Lei had taken of her earlier. She went through them one by one, then asked Duan Xi with great interest, "Brother Xi, look, do I look good?"
Duan Xi nodded. In fact, when he rushed to the filming set and saw her, he’d been stunned too. But that sense of amazement still couldn’t compare to how much his heart ached for her.
"Don’t take on something like that next time. It’s too cold." Duan Xi said, then seemed to think of something and looked over at Yang Tao. "Mind if I borrow your kitchen for a bit?"
Yang Tao waved his hand repeatedly. "Go, go, go, use it, use it, feel free."
Duan Xi nodded, got up, and headed toward the kitchen. Yang Tao shuffled over to Ruan Jiaojiao, and asked, seeing how a bit disappointed she was by Duan Xi’s rather flat reaction just now, "Your man can cook now?"
"Nope." Ruan Jiaojiao shook her head.
"Then what’s he going into the kitchen for?"
"No idea." Ruan Jiaojiao pursed her lips, not caring much, and continued admiring her photos. By the time she reached the end, she was in high spirits again, pulling Yang Tao over as she said, "Xiaotiao, let’s go take pictures after the New Year, these costume ones."
Seeing how interested she was, Yang Tao frowned and said, "Jiaojiao, don’t tell me you’re actually getting hooked on this. Acting is just for fun, okay? Don’t take it too seriously, it’s way too exhausting."
She knew what Jiaojiao’s body was like—truly frail. Being an actor is a tough job; the hardship is very real. Just the constant rushing from one set to another would be enough to drag her health down.
"I’m not, I just think the clothes are pretty." Ruan Jiaojiao said. She was a little interested in acting, but not that much. She also understood her own condition and wasn’t about to toss her body around for no reason.
"Good. And it’s not even that the clothes are pretty—it’s that you’re pretty. When someone looks good, they look good in anything." Yang Tao laughed as she pinched Jiaojiao’s cheeks.
No one dislikes being complimented, and Ruan Jiaojiao was no exception. With all the praise, she was glowing with happiness.
The two of them sat in the living room, chatting and joking around, bursts of laughter spilling out from time to time.
Meanwhile, the kitchen was a completely different scene.
Ruan Lei and Yang Hong sat in a corner, plucking vegetables, while Duan Xi stood on the other side, carefully washing a piece of ginger.
The Yang Family’s kitchen wasn’t small, but with three tall, broad-shouldered men packed in there, it still felt a bit cramped. Especially with Duan Xi—him standing at the sink made the whole setup look slightly out of place.
"Where’s the brown sugar and red dates?" After washing the ginger and slowly slicing it into thin shreds, Duan Xi asked.
