THE LAST & THE FIRST : Rulebreaker
Chapter 102 — Temporary Alliance
The forest shook again.
A deep rumble traveled beneath the ground.
The ancient containment structure flashed between green and black.
Kael stared at it.
[Central Containment Integrity: 74%]
The number continued falling.
73%.
72%.
71%.
Kael's expression hardened.
“We don't have much time.”
The Verdant Serpent lowered its enormous head.
“No.”
Another tremor passed through the forest.
The Serpent suddenly looked toward the eastern mountains.
Kael followed its gaze.
Nothing was visible.
But he could feel something.
A disturbance in the world's mana.
It was faint.
Almost impossible to notice.
But it was growing.
“What is it doing?”
The Serpent answered quietly.
“Testing the prison.”
“Who?”
The Serpent didn't answer.
Kael already knew.
The thing beneath the black tower.
His eyes returned to the containment structure.
Five authority sources.
Three compromised.
Two unknown.
And now—
The central prison was losing integrity.
Kael's mind began working rapidly.
The Verdant Serpent was still his enemy.
Its true form was still far stronger than him.
But killing it wasn't the objective anymore.
The objective was to stop the containment system from collapsing while continuing to weaken the Beast.
Kael raised his hand.
The V-01X floated beside him.
“We have a problem.”
The Serpent looked at him.
“You have several.”
Kael ignored the remark.
“The containment structure is reacting to our battle.”
“Yes.”
“If we continue fighting normally, it will keep destabilizing.”
“Yes.”
“So we change the battlefield.”
The Serpent's eyes narrowed.
“How?”
Kael pointed toward the western side of the forest.
“The damaged third hub.”
The Serpent immediately understood.
“You want to move.”
“Exactly.”
“The third hub is already unstable.”
“Which is why it is perfect.”
The Serpent stared at him.
“You intend to fight me inside the damaged territory.”
“No.”
Kael smiled.
“I intend to make the territory fight for us.”
The New Battlefield
Kael moved first.
He sprinted toward the western forest.
The Serpent followed.
But this time, neither attacked.
Kael's boots touched the remains of the third regeneration hub.
The ground was covered in shattered green crystals.
Mana leaked from the broken channels.
The territory was unstable.
Perfect.
Kael immediately activated Metal Control.
Ancient metallic fragments buried beneath the soil rose into the air.
He arranged them into a large circular formation.
The Serpent watched.
“What are you constructing?”
“A control frame.”
“For what?”
Kael looked at it.
“For your territory.”
The Serpent's eyes narrowed.
“You cannot control my territory.”
“I don't need to.”
Kael connected the final metal piece.
“I only need to redirect it.”
The structure activated.
A faint pulse traveled through the ground.
The surrounding trees reacted.
Roots shifted.
Mana changed direction.
The damaged third hub suddenly began feeding energy into a different network.
The Serpent's expression changed.
“You're redirecting regeneration energy.”
“Exactly.”
Kael pointed toward the surrounding forest.
“The territory still has energy.”
“But you can't use it properly anymore.”
“So I'll force it to release that energy into controlled channels.”
The Serpent stared at him.
“You are turning a broken network into a weapon.”
Kael smiled.
“Now you're understanding.”
The Serpent suddenly attacked.
Kael jumped.
A massive tail swept through the area.
The control frame shook.
Kael fired the V-01X.
BOOM!
A Spatial Anchor appeared beneath the Serpent.
The creature's movement slowed.
Kael immediately moved the metal frame.
The redirected mana surged.
Roots erupted from the earth.
They wrapped around the Serpent's body.
The beast tore them apart instantly.
But Kael wasn't trying to restrain it.
He was measuring.
One second.
Two.
Three.
The Serpent broke free.
Kael checked the readings on his System.
[Territory Energy Redirected: 18%]
Not enough.
He needed more.
The Serpent attacked again.
Kael switched to Configuration IV — Suppression.
Several rounds struck the ground around the Beast.
Mana disruption spread outward.
The roots became weaker.
Kael moved the frame again.
The territory responded.
Hundreds of vines surged from the forest floor.
This time, they attacked from several directions.
The Serpent dodged the first wave.
Then the second.
The third wrapped around one of its coils.
The beast tore through them.
But that was the point.
Every time it moved—
The territory reacted.
Kael watched.
Left.
Right.
Forward.
Backward.
The Serpent began understanding the pattern.
“You're using my movements to redirect the territory.”
Kael fired another round.
“Correct.”
“You'll exhaust yourself first.”
Kael smiled.
“Probably.”
The Serpent lunged.
Kael ran.
“Which is why I don't need to maintain it for long.”
The Serpent chased him.
Kael jumped across a broken pillar.
The creature followed.
Kael raised his hand.
Metal Control.
A buried metal support shot upward.
It struck the Serpent from beneath.
Not enough to injure it.
But enough to alter its trajectory.
The creature's body twisted.
Kael fired the Spatial Anchor.
The space locked.
The Serpent's movement slowed.
Kael pulled another metal mechanism.
The third hub discharged.
A wave of green energy swept through the battlefield.
The Serpent was struck by its own territory.
It roared.
Kael stared.
[Target Stability: 88% → 76%]
His eyes widened.
It worked.
The Beast wasn't resisting the territory.
The territory was functioning according to the ancient system.
And Kael was changing the system's instructions.
He had found a new weapon.
Not power.
Control.
The Serpent Adapts
The Verdant Serpent suddenly disappeared.
Kael's instincts screamed.
He spun around.
Nothing.
His eyes narrowed.
Spatial movement.
He activated Administrator Authority.
The world around him changed.
For a moment, Kael saw faint distortions in the air.
One.
Two.
Three.
The Serpent was moving through them.
There.
Kael fired.
The V-01X's Spatial Anchor struck one distortion.
The Serpent emerged—
But not where Kael expected.
It appeared behind him.
Kael turned.
Too late.
BOOM!
The impact sent him through the remnants of the control frame.
Metal scattered across the ground.
Kael rolled and immediately stood.
The Serpent attacked again.
Kael blocked with the Origin Blade.
CLANG!
The impact forced him backward.
He fired the GL-02 at point-blank range.
The compressed mana struck the Serpent's chest.
The Beast recoiled.
Kael immediately followed with a precision shot.
The projectile struck beneath its jaw.
CRACK!
A faint fracture spread.
The Serpent roared.
Kael retreated.
The creature's eyes became colder.
“You continue attacking the same point.”
Kael shook his head.
“No.”
He pointed toward the crack.
“I continue confirming it.”
The Serpent suddenly smiled.
“Then I will remove it.”
Kael froze.
The green-white energy around the creature began moving toward the damaged area.
The fracture started closing.
Kael's eyes widened.
Regeneration.
But this wasn't the territory's regeneration.
This was the Beast's own body.
Its true form still possessed incredible recovery.
Kael fired Mana Disruption.
The shot struck.
The regeneration slowed.
But it continued.
Kael switched configurations.
Penetration.
Another shot.
Then another.
The crack widened.
The Serpent attacked.
Kael died.
Five seconds later—
Kael reformed.
The Serpent was already waiting.
Its eyes remained fixed on him.
“You are beginning to understand.”
Kael picked up the Origin Blade.
“You regenerate through internal mana.”
“Yes.”
“Not through the three hubs.”
“No.”
Kael smiled.
“That means the hubs were only protecting you from attrition.”
The Serpent stared.
Kael's expression sharpened.
“So if I force your internal regeneration to work continuously…”
The Serpent's eyes narrowed.
“You will exhaust my core.”
“Exactly.”
The Serpent attacked.
Kael moved.
He didn't try to win the exchange.
He kept forcing the Serpent to regenerate.
A shallow strike.
A controlled retreat.
A precision shot.
Another disruption round.
Nothing lethal.
Nothing decisive.
Just damage.
The Serpent quickly noticed.
“You are intentionally avoiding finishing attacks.”
Kael blocked.
“Because you can't regenerate for free.”
The Beast's tail struck.
Kael dodged.
“You're making me spend mana.”
Another attack.
Kael rolled beneath it.
“You're measuring my recovery.”
Another strike.
Kael jumped.
“And you're waiting for me to become tired.”
The Serpent's eyes gleamed.
“Yes.”
Kael smiled.
“Good.”
He fired a round into the ground.
The explosion launched him sideways.
“But you're forgetting something.”
The Serpent paused.
Kael landed on a broken stone platform.
“I don't have to preserve my life.”
The Serpent stared.
Kael raised his weapon.
“I only have to preserve my time.”
The Serpent's expression changed.
Kael charged.
Death as a Weapon
The next ten minutes became a cycle.
Attack.
Retreat.
Death.
Reformation.
Attack again.
Kael deliberately chose death locations.
The first time—
He died near the third hub.
He reformed there.
The second—
Near the eastern edge.
The third—
Behind an ancient pillar.
The fourth—
Inside a ruined section of the containment structure.
Each death gave him something.
A new angle.
A new distance.
A new piece of information.
The Serpent adapted.
It began destroying the areas where Kael had reformed.
Kael expected that.
He began dying in locations that forced the Serpent to reposition.
The Beast learned.
Kael learned faster.
The battlefield became a puzzle.
And every death erased one unknown.
Eventually—
Kael realized something.
The Serpent never attacked the containment structure directly.
Never.
Even when Kael stood close to it.
Even when the structure obstructed its movement.
The Beast always avoided striking certain points.
Kael stopped attacking.
He watched.
The Serpent approached.
Kael moved sideways.
The creature followed.
Kael suddenly stopped.
The Serpent attacked.
Kael rolled beneath the strike.
Then he looked behind the Serpent.
There.
A small green pillar.
One of the five authority sources.
The Serpent had avoided it.
Every time.
Kael's eyes narrowed.
That's it.
The fourth authority source wasn't merely supplying the prison.
It was protecting something.
Kael fired.
The projectile wasn't aimed at the Serpent.
It hit the pillar.
BOOM!
The Serpent instantly changed direction.
Too quickly.
It ignored Kael.
It charged the pillar.
Kael smiled.
“I found it.”
He sprinted behind the Beast.
The Serpent destroyed the projectile.
Kael used the opening.
Metal Control.
The pillar had a metallic core.
Kael seized it.
The core resisted.
Ancient authority pushed back against his bloodline.
Kael gritted his teeth.
[Metal Control synchronization: 22%]
He pulled harder.
[31%]
The pillar began moving.
The Serpent turned.
“No!”
Kael smiled.
“You were protecting this.”
The Serpent rushed forward.
Kael pulled harder.
The metallic core came free.
The pillar dimmed.
The surrounding forest went silent.
Then—
[Authority Source 4 disrupted.]
[Verdant Serpent synchronization: 4% → 0%]
The Serpent froze.
Kael stared.
The Beast's eyes widened.
For the first time—
Its connection to the containment structure completely disappeared.
The creature no longer felt like part of the prison.
It was simply a beast.
A tremendously powerful one.
But no longer a component.
The central structure stopped shaking.
[Central Containment Integrity stabilized.]
[74%]
Kael exhaled.
“Good.”
The Serpent looked at him.
“You separated me.”
“Yes.”
“You separated my existence from the prison.”
“Yes.”
“You don't understand what you've done.”
Kael's smile faded.
“Then tell me.”
The Serpent lowered its head.
“The prison was suppressing me.”
Kael's expression changed.
“So…”
“I am finally free.”
Silence filled the forest.
Kael slowly raised his weapons.
The Serpent's body changed again.
Its scales began glowing.
Its aura became heavier.
The surrounding trees bent away from it.
The Beast's voice became calm.
“You wanted to fight the true Verdant Serpent.”
Kael tightened his grip.
“Yes.”
“Then stop hiding behind the prison.”
The creature's eyes flashed.
“And I will stop hiding behind it too.”
The Real Battle
The Serpent vanished.
Kael activated Administrator Authority.
Nothing.
The creature had completely disappeared from his perception.
Kael's eyes widened.
Not spatial movement.
Something else.
His senses sharpened.
He felt a disturbance above him.
He jumped.
A massive strike passed beneath him.
Kael rotated in midair.
The Origin Blade moved.
SLASH!
The blade struck the Serpent's side.
A small fracture appeared.
The Serpent twisted.
Its tail struck Kael.
He blocked.
BOOM!
He flew backward.
The creature pursued.
Kael fired all three weapons.
V-01X.
GL-02.
Origin Blade.
The Serpent avoided the first.
Destroyed the second.
The third struck its shoulder.
Kael landed.
The Beast was already behind him.
He turned.
Too late.
BOOM!
Kael died.
Five seconds later.
He reformed.
The Serpent waited.
Kael didn't attack.
Instead, he stared.
The Beast's movement.
Its timing.
Its energy.
Its attacks.
Everything.
Then Kael smiled.
“You changed your fighting style.”
“Yes.”
“You stopped using spatial movement.”
“Yes.”
“You're using pure physical speed.”
The Serpent looked amused.
“You cannot analyze everything.”
Kael shook his head.
“No.”
He raised his blade.
“But I can analyze enough.”
He charged.
The Serpent attacked.
Kael dodged.
Not perfectly.
But enough.
A tail strike.
He moved under it.
A bite.
He shifted sideways.
A body sweep.
He jumped.
The Serpent attacked again.
Kael blocked.
His arms trembled.
The difference in power remained enormous.
But Kael no longer panicked.
He knew the creature's rhythm.
He knew the delay before its largest attacks.
He knew which movements were feints.
He knew which attacks required more mana.
Every death had become knowledge.
The Serpent suddenly paused.
Kael attacked.
The Origin Blade struck beneath the jaw.
CRACK!
The same weak point.
The Serpent roared.
Kael followed.
V-01X.
Penetration.
BOOM!
Another strike.
The fracture expanded.
The Serpent retaliated.
Kael died.
He reformed.
He attacked again.
Same point.
Another death.
Again.
Again.
The Serpent's regeneration slowed.
Its attacks became slightly less fluid.
Kael noticed.
It's working.
He wasn't overpowering it.
He was exhausting it.
The Beast realized it too.
“You're using your immortality to turn time into a weapon.”
Kael raised his blade.
“Exactly.”
“You'll die hundreds of times before defeating me.”
Kael smiled.
“Then I have hundreds of attempts.”
The Serpent roared.
The entire battlefield exploded with green energy.
Kael's vision disappeared.
He activated the V-01X.
Emergency Overload.
Twelve seconds.
Maximum output.
He fired every remaining specialized round.
Penetration.
Mana Disruption.
Spatial Anchor.
The battlefield became a storm of weapons.
The Serpent moved through it.
One attack.
Kael died.
Reformation.
Immediately—
He remembered the position.
Second attack.
He adjusted.
The Serpent changed.
Kael adapted.
Third attack.
The Beast predicted him.
Kael changed direction.
Fourth.
Fifth.
Sixth.
Every death became another calculation.
The Serpent's movements became slower.
The damaged core beneath its jaw became easier to reach.
Then—
Kael saw it.
A small green-white core.
Not the Beast's heart.
Not its main mana core.
Something else.
A Verdant Origin Node.
The source of its defensive regeneration.
Kael's eyes widened.
That's the real target.
He reformed.
The Serpent attacked.
Kael didn't dodge.
He stepped forward.
The attack struck.
Kael died.
Five seconds.
He returned at the exact same position.
This time, he was already holding the Origin Blade at the correct angle.
The Serpent attacked again.
Kael moved.
One step.
Two.
Three.
He slid beneath the creature's head.
The V-01X fired a Spatial Anchor behind the Serpent.
The creature's movement slowed.
Kael raised the Origin Blade.
Metal Control synchronized with the weapon.
Bloodline power surged.
The blade changed shape.
Its edge became thinner.
Sharper.
More precise.
The System flashed.
[Adaptive Edge activated.]
Kael's eyes narrowed.
“Found you.”
He thrust the blade beneath the damaged scale.
BOOM!
The Origin Node cracked.
The Verdant Serpent froze.
Green energy erupted from its body.
The beast roared.
The forest shook.
Kael was thrown backward.
But he had succeeded.
The System appeared.
[Verdant Origin Node damaged.]
[Defensive Regeneration: Severely Reduced.]
[Verdant Serpent remaining regeneration capacity: 23%]
Kael landed on his feet.
He stared at the Beast.
The Serpent slowly raised its head.
Its eyes were no longer furious.
They were calm.
Almost relieved.
“You found it.”
Kael stared.
“You knew I would.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
The Serpent looked toward the black tower.
“Because the prison would never allow me to truly die.”
Kael's expression changed.
The Serpent continued.
“But now that you have separated me from it…”
It lowered its head.
“I can finally be defeated.”
Kael's grip tightened.
The System appeared.
[Target State Change Detected.]
[Verdant Serpent — Final State Available.]
[Condition: Origin Node damaged.]
[Warning: Target may enter terminal combat state.]
Kael took a breath.
The timer continued.
[Legendary Immortality Remaining: 40:31:44]
The Verdant Serpent's body began glowing.
All remaining green energy gathered around its scales.
The Beast looked directly at Kael.
“This will be the final phase.”
Kael raised the Origin Blade.
“Good.”
The Verdant Serpent opened its jaws.
A massive sphere of green energy formed before it.
Kael activated every weapon he had.
V-01X.
GL-02.
Origin Blade.
Metal fragments.
Everything rose.
The forest trembled.
The two combatants stared at each other.
Then—
They attacked simultaneously.
And the final battle against the Verdant Serpent began.
