Chapter 63: 63. Eleven year olds are a menace
During the past two days, after convincing Xiao Xi to stay behind and pretend to be her, she had secretly begun searching for Lin Zhenghai on her own.
After stealing so many cultivation resources from the clan, Lin Zhenghai could not have traveled far while carrying everything with him.
He needed a temporary hiding place and Yew Forest was the perfect choice.
It was far enough from Azure Willow City to avoid the clan’s search parties, yet close enough for him to keep an eye on the city’s movements.
More importantly, the forest contained abandoned hunter cabins and secluded caves that made excellent temporary shelters.
Once she reached that conclusion, her search became much simpler.
After two days of carefully checking those locations one by one...
She had finally found him.
Lin Zhaoyue’s expression gradually became complicated.
In her previous life, Lin Zhenghai had accused her father of abusing his authority and stealing the clan’s treasure that could forcibly raise a person’s Martial Spirit.
Using that accusation, he banished her father from the Lin Clan.
As for herself...
Without caring for her opinion even once, she had been sold to a suspicious man claiming to be an elder of the Mystic Sky Sect.
Lin Zhaoyue slowly closed her eyes.
After taking several deep breaths, she pushed those painful memories to the back of her mind and set fire to the tent.
She quietly watched as the tent was swallowed by flames, the crackling fire gradually spread through the camp, consuming every trace of the place.
"Hah... I seriously underestimated how useful having the right physique can be."
She stretched her slightly sore shoulders before letting out a helpless smile.
Although the assassination had gone smoothly, she could clearly feel that her movements had been far less fluid than she had expected.
In her previous life, she had long since grown accustomed to fighting in an adult body.
This was the first time she had engaged in a true battle with the body of an eleven year old.
The difference was surprisingly noticeable.
"Phew..."
She reached into the pile of stolen goods and took out two items.
The first was a folding fan.
It was a particularly remarkable fan, when opened and waved, it produced a cool breeze.
"Ahem..."
She quietly put it away before picking up the second item.
It was a jade bracelet and unlike the fan, this was also the treasure she had truly come for.
This was the ancestral artifact that had worried her from the very beginning.
If used correctly, it possessed enough power to fatally wound a Golden Core cultivator.
If the target was caught completely off guard, it could even kill them instantly.
Satisfied, Lin Zhaoyue stored the bracelet inside her spatial ring.
The growing fire would soon attract the spirit beasts roaming Yew Forest and so there was no reason for her to remain any longer.
Lin Zhaoyue gently waved the folding fan and walked deeper into Yew Forest.
A cool breeze brushed against her face with every wave.
She quietly made her way through the dense forest with nothing more than the body of an eleven year old.
Fortunately, her Third Layer Golden Core cultivation was more than enough to support the long journey.
Before long, she arrived at the deepest part of Yew Forest.
A vast pond quietly rested beneath the moonlight.
Its surface was as smooth as a mirror, reflecting the countless stars above.
Lin Zhaoyue stopped at the water’s edge.
Both in her previous life and in this one, there had always been rumors that a giant serpent lived within this pond.
She knew that her father possessed a Snake-type Martial Spirit.
Although very few people in the outside world knew it, the major sects had already uncovered this secret many years ago.
For Beast-type Martial Spirits...
Consuming the Beast Core of a spirit beast belonging to the same species could slowly strengthen the Martial Spirit.
With enough accumulation and a little luck, it could even evolve the Martial Spirit into the next rank.
Unfortunately, that method only worked for Beast-type Martial Spirits.
For Tool-type Martial Spirits like her fan...
No successful method had ever been discovered.
Lin Zhaoyue slowly took several deep breaths as she quietly fanned herself while silently observing the tranquil pond.
Ripples suddenly spread across the water and the calm surface violently churned as something enormous moved beneath it.
A moment later, a gigantic serpent slowly emerged from the depths of the pond.
Its emerald scales reflected the moonlight with a cold gleam.
The serpent raised its massive head and its golden eyes immediately turned toward the distant glow of the burning campsite.
It silently stared in that direction trying to understand what had disturbed its territory.
Lin Zhaoyue hold her breath in as she quietly observed the giant serpent from the shadows.
Although she had heard rumors that a Snake Spirit Beast lived in the deepest part of Yew Forest, those were merely rumors.
She had never seen it with her own eyes.
Naturally, she had no idea what it looked like or how powerful it truly was.
Her gaze carefully swept across its massive body as she examined its scales, the aura surrounding it, and the pressure it unconsciously released with every movement.
The longer she observed, the heavier her expression became.
Its strength was roughly comparable to that of a human cultivator at the Fifth Layer of the Golden Core Realm.
That was two entire realms above her.
Even so, that did not mean she should give up.
If I lose to a mere spirit beast despite regressing, I’ll never be able to hold my head up high again.
Lin Zhaoyue slowly calmed her breathing.
A surprise attack... If I strike first with everything I have... I should be able to kill it before it has the chance to fight back.
With that thought in mind, Lin Zhaoyue quietly tightened her grip around her fan and patiently waited for the perfect moment to strike.
