The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!
Chapter 2008 - 542: Who Says the Demon King Can’t Be Human?
The wheels rolled over the smooth coal-tar asphalt road, letting out a soft, rhythmic rustling. The sound was particularly pleasing, none of the jolting and racket of rolling over gravel like before.
"Lord Demon King…"
"What is it?"
"Nothing, it's just that Youyou feels you're just… way too clever."
The milky-white puff of mist drifted beside Luo Yan; the muttering voice inside was full of amazement, as if it had just witnessed some unbelievable miracle.
It wasn't unbelievable, nor was it a miracle—Youyou had just seen too little.
Hearing the soft mumbling by his ear, Luo Yan gave a faint smile, lifted his teacup and took a sip. As always, he was perfectly elegant today.
Multiple choice question?
What a joke.
Only grown-ups do multiple choice; as for the Demon King, naturally he wants them all!
At this very moment, in the Campbell family's carriage—rated to hold two people—there were four sitting inside, and somehow it still felt quite spacious.
The Campbell Hero and the Padric Family Enchanting Demon were squeezed together shoulder-to-shoulder on the same seat; their faces were smiling, but between them it was as if there were an icy wall.
Erin sat up straight, hands folded over her knees, maintaining the proper elegant posture of the local Royal Family, only the smile at the corner of her mouth looked stiff no matter how you saw it.
Mia sat slightly turned to the side, gaze thrown toward the scenery flashing by outside the window; the folding fan in her hand tapped idly against her palm, as if the Princess at her side were nothing more than a transparent mass of air.
The friction of silk and velvet sparked invisible lightning.
In terms of Extraordinary Power, it was obvious the Hero had the upper hand, yet on another, more brutal battlefield, it was the Padric Family that was overwhelmingly stronger.
At this moment, Mia lifted a finger to brush aside the hair by her ear, and three seconds later Erin also, half consciously, brushed the strand of hair hanging by her ear.
Well now—
Even synchronized.
Different from the swirling undercurrents on the opposite seat, the scenery on Vivian's side was uniquely delightful.
A pair of little legs wrapped in white thigh-high socks swung happily in midair, like a tireless pendulum. Her small face was flushed as if stunned by a falling pie from heaven, and her slightly parted little mouth was so excited it looked ready to burst into song.
Kukuku, so this is the Demon City?
This must be the Demon City of legend within the Demon City!
Vivian had never imagined happiness would come so suddenly. Just when she thought she had completely, utterly failed, Bayele's blessing suddenly descended upon her despairing self once more.
She sneaked a glance from the corner of her eye at that finely-shaped neck and Adam's apple, swallowed with a soft "gulp," her fingers so nervous she didn't know where to put them and could only twist tightly at the lace hem of her skirt.
No fighting, no grabbing—victory handed right to her.
As expected—
Vivian really was just too strong!
Right now Vivian was still immersed in her own delusions, unaware that the strong one wasn't her at all, but the Demon King sitting beside her.
Time rewinds to half an hour earlier.
Just as the coins of fate were about to hit the ground, a sleek black shadow shot out like lightning and snatched those "coins of fate" into its hand.
"Crack."
The sound of splintering wood carried with perfect clarity to everyone present.
Following the sound, everyone turned to see the rear axle of that black carriage belonging to the Colin family suddenly break clean in two without warning.
The stately carriage body immediately tipped sideways, like a drunk whose spine had been yanked out, collapsing wretchedly to the ground.
No one noticed that, right under the blind spot of their vision, a petite black figure was silently retracting a Dagger that still glinted coldly, then drifted away down a side alley like the wind, hiding her deeds and her name.
A Platinum Level assassin might not be able to defeat a Vampire of the same level plus a Diamond Level Knight, but pulling a few small tricks right under the latter's nose was easy.
Sarah understood her master very well; she didn't even need eye signals—when it was time to act, she never hesitated.
Looking at the carriage that had suddenly gone "on strike," Luo Yan's expression was also just the right shade of surprised, as if he himself hadn't seen a thing.
"Saint Xi above… this is really unlucky."
He first walked over to the dumbstruck Miss Yaya, casting her a look of concern.
"Are you alright?"
"I—I'm fine…" Mia turned her head blankly, then suddenly said in a cautious voice, "…Was it because I'm too heavy? I'm sorry… I'll buy you a new one later."
"…"
Alright then.
Even though Luo Yan thought he didn't have a heart, that sincere gaze still jabbed a knife right into his chest; his heartbeat seemed to stop for a second.
"No, I'm the one who should apologize… For the Colin family's carriage to have such a disgraceful malfunction, we probably should have scrapped it long ago."
Putting away the cunning hidden behind his deep-violet eyes, he turned toward Erin, who had come over with a concerned look, and said:
"Erin, I'm terribly sorry. Could I trouble you to let us squeeze in with you?"
Erin was slightly taken aback, then a gentle smile rose to her face.
"What are you saying? Please don't be so formal. We're headed the same way anyway—just ride in my carriage today!"
As she spoke, she looked at the on-the-verge-of-tears Yaya and the still-lagging Miss Vivian, and said sincerely:
"Miss Yaya, and Vivian, I apologize for making this rude request, but right now we can only face this difficulty together."
Leaving guests standing in the crowd is impolite; Erin decisively fulfilled her duty as a member of the Royal Family.
And thus, we arrived at the current situation.
