May’s POV

"The mission we have at hand will require something from you," Tony said to the wolves.

"Require what?" Zeno asked.

"It will require that you’re no longer wolves. You’ll have to suppress it until you’re fully human."

"Are you serious? You’re going to suppress our essence for some mission? Oh, come on, bite me," she snapped.

I almost laughed.

"That’s what you signed up for," Tony said, unbothered. "When you’re in Bernia, you have to look like Bernia."

He was pushing them to another level of responsibility. This phase required them to turn human, and it had an agenda, carefully and intentionally structured. Tony didn’t want werewolves standing in Morvaine when the killing started. He also wanted to preserve the moral side of it, so that none of them would feel like they were slaughtering their brothers and their own people.

So he was going to make them kill their own people while believing they weren’t their own people.

Smart move, Tony. Cold, but smart.

"How do we suppress it?" Ciro asked.

He looked far too interested in the idea. Maybe he was tired of being a werewolf. Maybe something had broken in him a long time ago, and I’d never noticed.

"It’s going to take a long time, so we’re not rushing," Tony said. "From now until the next twelve months, you’ll all take wolfsbane. By then, your wolf will be fully suppressed, even eliminated, and your full potential can finally come out."

The only part I didn’t agree with was the idea of eliminating the wolf. That was a lie. The wolf inside a person could never be eliminated, only suppressed, buried deep enough that it went quiet. Their wolf traits could become almost invisible, though. They would think like humans, then begin to hate werewolves, and eventually they would want to kill them.

"How can you tell us to take wolfsbane for that long? Why can’t we object? Our wolf is our identity," Valentina said.

I could already tell she was going to be a real challenge.

"What has your wolf done for you all these years, Valentina?" Ciro asked.

"I can’t believe you’re asking me that," she shot back. "You were a wolf first. You’re only here because of circumstance."

Ciro ignored the jab. "Tony, I agree with everything. By the end of twelve months, there should be no werewolf left. Kill them all."

Salvatore had been quietly observing the whole time, and he spoke next. "I agree. I’ll take the wolfsbane."

"I’ll take it too," Zeno said, shrugging. "My wolf is useless anyway."

I just stood there, watching the drama unfold. They had all agreed, and only Valentina remained.

"Don’t make this more difficult than it needs to be," Tony said, smiling. "Your brothers have chosen the right path. Do the same."

I walked up to her. "Valentina."

She didn’t look at me.

"This is your redemption," I said, softening my voice more than I meant to. "Twelve months from now, all the werewolves will be gone. Please take it. Do it for your people who lost their lives. For Lucas. For Draven." I placed my hand on her shoulder.

Her eyes flashed. "Don’t say his name again." She removed my hand from her shoulder like it burned her. "Fine. I’ll take the wolfsbane. I guess it’s goodbye to my wolf, then."

I pulled my hand back and said nothing. I’d never been good with comfort anyway. Maybe she just didn’t want it from me.

"Samples of strong and safe wolfsbane are being tested in the lab right now," Tony told them. "Please be patient."

They were all gasping for breath, and I understood why. They were losing a part of themselves that had lived inside them all their lives. They could agree all they wanted, but I knew how hard and painful the decision was. It wasn’t going to be easy, but when it was all over, they would appreciate Tony.

As for me, I was caught in the middle of everything, a puppet, the way I’d always been. I fought whenever they needed me to and killed whenever they wanted me to. That was my life, and I had come to accept it. I couldn’t even picture a bigger, higher life beyond Bernia. I was so entrenched in the system that all I ever thought about was taking lives.

I’d never had a life of my own, which was crazy when I thought about it.

Here I was, this deep into my life, and I had never fucked. Not in the army camp, not in Bernia. I’d been so serious about the mission that I’d forgotten I even had a pussy. When would be the right time to put it to use? I felt horny most days, but I could never act on it because I was always fighting and killing, and the hunger just sat there, ignored, growing louder.

But maybe I could fix that.

I had secretly admired werewolves for a long time, even though I’d publicly torn them down with my mouth and my hands. In secret, I wanted them more than anything. My boss could never find out, or I’d become meat instantly.

My greatest desire was to be fucked by a werewolf. It was a pretty decent desire for someone who’d never been fucked at all, but it was real, and it scared me how real it was.

And since the werewolves were about to be killed and obliterated, my desire had a deadline. I had to be fucked by a werewolf before the twelve months ran out.

Could I find one among these four? I asked myself.

Zeno, Ciro, Salvatore, Valentina. Would any of them want me? Maybe, maybe not. I might as well try. Twelve months was too long not to find one werewolf willing to fuck me, and I was sexy as hell. They wouldn’t be able to resist.

My tough-girl era was over, at least for the next twelve months. It was crazy how a person could change arcs all because of one desire.

"Tony, if I may ask," Valentina said, "why do you want to kill werewolves so badly? What did they do to you?"

"I’ve said it before," he answered calmly. "They’re a curse on human existence. They make living not worth it. They have to be eliminated at all costs."

"And you take it upon yourself to eliminate the curse from the world?"

"If I don’t do it, no one else will," Tony said. "I am the savior. Your savior. You can call me that."
