The Luna's Revenge: Chosen as his breeder, Born to rule
Chapter 200: Two Months Pregnant
Selene’s POV
It started as something awkward and strange. A wave of nausea rolled through me at my desk, so sudden and violent that I shot up from my chair and rushed to the toilet at work. I barely made it before everything came up.
Damn, it was a lot. And the thought that crept in afterward made my knees weak. Was it what I was thinking?
It had to be.
My secretary must have heard me retching, because she rushed in and found me bent over the sink, gripping the edges like they were the only things keeping me upright.
"What do you need, Luna?" she asked, her voice soft with worry.
"I need to see a doctor now," I said, wiping my mouth with a trembling hand.
She helped me close my files and gather my things, and she walked me all the way to the car. My driver didn’t ask questions. He just drove.
In the back seat, I pressed my forehead against the cool window. I was nauseous, dizzy, and irritated as fuck. I hadn’t told William about any of it. Not yet. I wanted the full picture of what was wrong with me before I handed him a problem, or worse, a false hope. I trusted my secretary to hold the office together while I was gone, because something told me I wouldn’t be back for a while.
The moment I stepped into the hospital, everything paused. Nurses stopped mid-sentence, orderlies straightened, and the receptionist nearly knocked over her chair standing up. Queen effect. On any other day, I might have enjoyed it. Today, I just wanted someone to tell me I was dying of something simple.
"What’s wrong with the Luna?" someone whispered behind me, but I was already being ushered toward the diagnostic lab, where they sat me down and ran their tests.
"Don’t worry, Luna, you’re perfectly fine," the doctor said as he worked.
"I was just feeling dizzy, and I vomited," I said. "I really hope you’re right."
When he finished, they led me out to the waiting area. I sat with my hands folded in my lap, my leg bouncing against the floor. Everything in my life had been aligning so well lately. The mating, the title, William. Surely this would be a small thing, a passing sickness, good news, even. I clung to that.
Twenty minutes later, the doctor came out with the results in his hand. I was on my feet before he reached me, a smile already tugging at my lips.
"Doctor, what’s the issue?"
"It’s strange in the medical space, Luna, but it’s still good news."
Strange? I didn’t like that word. "What’s the news, doc? Don’t waste my time." My patience was fraying at the edges.
"Okay, Luna. According to these results, you’re two months pregnant. Congratulations!" He reached out and shook my hand, beaming.
My eyes went wide. What the fuck was he saying?
Two months? Two months? I hadn’t even been Luna two months ago. I had been standing on the edge of being claimed by William Steelborn, not carrying anyone’s child.
The doctor turned to leave, still smiling, and I called out sharply, "How sure are you of your source? Because if your results come out false, you know what that does to your licence."
He turned back, unfazed. "Oh no, Luna. I ran this test over and over in the lab just to be sure I wasn’t being presumptuous. Results don’t lie. But you’re free to go for another test if you like."
"Yes. That would be better." I wasn’t going to accept that answer until I saw it with my own eyes.
They ran the test again, and this time I stood right there and watched. My heart pounded the same way, hard and fast, like it was trying to claw out of my chest. When the results came back, the same words stared up at me.
Two months pregnant.
How could a two-month pregnancy stay hidden for this long? No signs, no warnings, nothing. What the fuck!
I stood there, my mind spinning, until the truth settled over me like a cold hand on my neck. I had to tell my husband. But telling him meant admitting one thing: the child didn’t belong to him.
We would still do a DNA test to confirm, of course. But I already knew. I hadn’t slept with William back then. We weren’t even married. The last and only man I had been with was Lucian Thornveil, the Alpha I now despised.
We had been together one last time, just before William came to claim me. That had to be what did it.
I hadn’t checked the calendar that day, and I sure as hell hadn’t expected this. It was never my intention. I had lost a child before, and ever since, I had carried a phobia of pregnancy like a scar. And now it had happened, by our own hands, and the child was Lucian’s?
Crazy news. The kind that makes the whole world tilt.
I was so shaken that I couldn’t even go back to the office. I called my secretary and told her I had personal issues to handle. She was accountable and trustworthy, and she assured me she would take care of everything.
"Take care of yourself, Luna," she said just before I ended the call. "We need you."
I need me too, I thought, staring at my reflection in the dark screen.
When I reached the house, William was already waiting for me, pacing near the door.
"The doctor called me. He said you weren’t feeling well. What’s wrong?"
His concern was so genuine that it hurt.
"A lot of things are wrong, William." I wasn’t going to lie to him. Lying was a weight I couldn’t carry for the next seven months.
"What do you mean, a lot of things are wrong? Are you... what were you diagnosed with?"
I held his hands so he would calm down. I knew he was worried sick, and I hated myself for what I was about to do to his face.
"I’m pregnant... but..."
"Oh my Goddess! You’re pregnant? Whoo!"
He didn’t even let me finish. He lifted me off the ground and spun me around like I weighed nothing, laughing, his joy filling the entire room. And I hung there in his arms, my heart breaking, knowing exactly what the but was going to do to him.
He set me down, still grinning. "But what? You were saying something."
I had to tell him the truth.
"But the pregnancy doesn’t belong to you."
The silence that followed was brutal. His smile didn’t fade slowly. It simply vanished, as if I had slapped it off him. Whatever rush of joy and adrenaline he’d been riding crumbled in a nanosecond.
"What?" His face changed.
"The doctor said so, and the second test confirmed it. I’m two months pregnant, which..."
"We weren’t married two months ago." He said it quietly. William wasn’t stupid. He had done the math before I finished the sentence.
"This could only mean one thing. The child belongs to..."
I covered his mouth with my hand. "Don’t utter that name. I don’t want to hear it."
He lowered himself onto the bed, looking suddenly exhausted, like the weight of the world had landed on his shoulders.
"I’m sorry, William. I wasn’t aware that..."
"But how is it possible you didn’t show any signs for two months straight?" he asked, his voice strained.
"I still have to do a DNA test, William. It isn’t perfectly clear to me either."
He shook his head slowly, staring at me like he didn’t recognize my face.
"There’s nothing unclear about it. It means you fucked him before we got married and you were already pregnant. Fuck!"
He stood up to leave. I rushed forward and grabbed his arm.
"William, I didn’t mean to..."
He pushed me off with the back of his hand, and I fell to the floor, the impact knocking the air out of me. I looked up, stunned, waiting for him to turn around, to apologize, to say anything.
He didn’t even look back. He walked out and left the door wide open.
And I stayed on the floor, one hand pressed against my stomach, wondering whose heartbeat I was protecting.
