The Lust Grimoire: I Steal Magic By Fulfilling Her Desires

Chapter 1: The Book That Shouldn’t Exist

  • Next Chapter

Hundreds of eighteen-year-olds stood in straight rows under floating crystal lights. Mana hung thick in the air. Every few seconds a living book tore itself off the high shelves, spun down in a streak of light, and slammed into someone’s hands. The big glass orb on the dais flared and shouted a tier. Just like that, another future got locked in.

Arthur Vance stood in the last row of the Fringe section and kept his face blank.

He had been waiting for this day since he was five years old.

Back then everyone called him a genius. While other kids still thought the shimmer in the air was just heat, Arthur could feel mana the way most people felt wind. He tracked currents through floorboards. He knew when a fire spell would catch before the caster finished the chant. His parents sold two fields just to hire tutors. For a few years the whole village looked at him like he was going to drag them all into the nobility.

Then they put the first practice crystal in his hands.

Nothing happened.

Sensing was easy. Casting needed a grimoire. Every kid got one at eighteen. The book acted like a lens and shaped their mana into real spells. Arthur’s channels just refused every frequency the empire knew. Fire slipped past him. Water ignored him. Earth stayed dead. By twelve the tutors stopped coming. By fifteen the neighbors stopped pretending to care. By the time the Academy letter arrived, his father barely looked at him anymore.

Now the same silence sat in Arthur’s chest while the ceremony chewed through the rows ahead of him.

A girl three places up gasped as a red book smashed into her arms. The orb flared.

[Tier 4. Flameblade lineage. Lower nobility confirmed.]

Polite clapping. Another life sorted.

Arthur didn’t bother watching. He already knew how this ended. Thousands of grimoires floated above them. None of them would pick a boy whose mana ran on a frequency that did not exist. He still showed up. The law was simple. Skip the Choosing and you stayed a peasant forever. No grimoire meant no magic. No magic meant the Fringe until you died in the dirt.

Another chime. Another book. Another announcement.

The rows kept emptying. Tier 2. Tier 5. Tier 3. One lucky bastard got Tier 6 and the hall actually cheered. The air grew thinner as the stronger books found owners and left. Arthur watched a southern duchy kid catch a silver-edged tome and almost collapse from the pressure. The orb sang Tier 7. Mythic. High nobility track. The kid’s knees gave out from pure relief.

Arthur’s turn came when the hall was half empty.

He walked forward on stiff legs. The floor reflected the lights in long cold lines. He stopped on the marked stone and raised both hands the way every student had practiced a hundred times.

Nothing moved.

Seconds stretched. The books kept circling. None of them broke formation. The orb stayed dark. Someone behind him coughed.

A full minute passed. Then two.

Whispers started at the edges of the hall. Arthur kept his face empty. Thirteen years of practice made it automatic. Inside, something tired finally sat down and stopped hoping.

The head proctor cleared his throat. Thin man. Tier 6 Sage book floating at his shoulder.

"Vance, Arthur. Fringe registry. Step to the orb."

Arthur walked over. The glass sphere usually jumped at the chance to taste a new bond and scream the result to the whole empire. He put both hands on it.

Cold. Then colder.

The orb flickered once in a sick gray color. Cracks raced across the surface with a sound like ice breaking. One last weak pulse of light died. The sphere went completely dark.

Silence hit the hall harder than any announcement.

The proctor’s mouth tightened. "No resonance. Defective channels. Recorded as Unranked. Step aside."

Unranked. The word tasted like ash. In a thousand years of records, less than three names ever got that mark. All of them disappeared soon after.

Arthur lowered his hands. He turned to leave the circle.

That was when the air changed.

Not the usual clean rush of elemental mana. Something warmer. Thicker. It slid between the floating books like a current no one else could feel. High above the highest shelf, one volume that had never glowed and never moved simply dropped.

It fell without light or sound.

A plain black book landed in Arthur’s hands like it had been waiting for the exact shape of his palms.

Warm. The cover felt like skin left in the sun.

Every remaining grimoire recoiled at once. The proctor stumbled back a step. The cracked orb gave one last useless flicker and stayed dead.

Arthur stared at the book. No title. No crest. No tier mark. The cover fell open by itself. Seven blank pages stared up at him. Each one the pale color of living skin.

A voice spoke straight into his head.

Bright. High. Almost cheerful. Like a little girl who had never once doubted people would listen to her.

"Finally. Took you long enough, dummy."

Pink-gold words burned across the first blank page.

Arthur’s fingers locked on the warm cover. Hundreds of eyes stared at him. The proctor’s mouth hung open. Even the mana in the air seemed to hold its breath.

The little voice giggled, pure delight.

"Oh, this is going to be fun."
