The Lust Grimoire: I Steal Magic By Fulfilling Her Desires

Chapter 19: Broken Barrier, Equinox Arrives

  • Next Chapter

The sky above the floating academy had gone wrong.

The protective barrier that had held the entire island aloft for a thousand years had vanished in a single heartbeat. What replaced it was an unnatural pressure, like the world itself had been squeezed. Dozens of cloaked figures descended from the open air, landing in perfect silence on the edges of the training platform and the wide sky bridges. Black robes with golden trim billowed in the sudden wind. None of them carried visible weapons. None of them smiled.

Arthur stood at the center of the platform with Talia Vane at his back, Milo and Iris behind him. The rest of the students were already pouring back toward the dormitories, but the sight of these new arrivals had frozen everyone in place.

The man who had spoken the words removed his hood.

His face was young, almost boyish, with sharp black eyes and a cold, unsettling smile. He took a long, slow breath, as if tasting the wind of the academy for the first time in centuries. His gaze drifted over the floating spires, the training platforms, the students hurrying back toward their dormitories.

"Wow," he murmured, voice soft and almost nostalgic. "All the new faces... Where are the other professors? I can’t wait for the reunion."

Then the smile on his face twisted into something completely unhinged — wide, jagged, and dripping with centuries of madness.

Arthur’s blood turned cold.

That face. That smile. He had seen them both a thousand times in the Hall of Binding and in the academy’s grand hall.

As a wanted poster.

Norman.

The man who had been the strongest student in the academy fifty years ago. The same Norman who had been sentenced to death for performing a forbidden ritual inside the grounds. The same Norman whose body had been found hanging in the academy dungeons, his heart torn out in some ritualistic way no one could explain.

And yet here he was.

Norman’s cold black eyes scanned the platform and landed on the old man standing near the central gate — the same old man who had spoken at the Sorting Ceremony only weeks ago.

The old man’s face drained of color. His hands, once steady, now trembled at his sides.

"Norman...?"

Norman laughed, the sound sharp and delighted. "You’re surprised, aren’t you, geezer? You thought you killed me that day. You really believed you could end me with a single strike of your fancy academy tricks. But I’ve been reborn. By my master."

The old man swallowed hard. His voice cracked. "We... we executed the traitor. We buried his body. You died 50 years ago."

"Close enough," Norman replied cheerfully. "My master is very generous. He brought me back to life. And now..." Norman spread his arms wide, still wearing that insane smile. "Now I’m back."

He turned slightly and gestured toward the other hooded figures behind him. "We are the new organization — Equinox — formed by my master. We came here to test our strength against your academy. Sorry, we didn’t bring our disciples. We only wanted to compete with the instructors today."

The old man’s face turned ashen. Before he could say anything Norman continued.

"If you don’t... then we’ll just kill every single student in this academy. Believe it or not, we can do it. And you don’t have your Headmistress to protect you right now."

Talia Vane’s voice cut through the stunned silence like a whip.

"Shut your mouth before I rip your tongue out."

Norman laughed again, delighted. "That’s the spirit. You look like you’re new. Come on, vice principal. Let’s see if you still have the power you had fifty years ago."

He stepped forward, black robes fluttering, eyes gleaming with pure insanity.

The old man’s face twisted. "Norman, stop this nonsense. You were a student here. You were supposed to be better than this."

Norman’s smile only grew wider. "Geezer, aren’t you happy to meet your old student?"

Before the old man could answer, he turned back and spoke to one of the hooded figure.

"Selby. Use your magic. I don’t want anyone to disturb my fight with Professor."

A woman in the back stepped forward. Her Grimoire floated into her hands. She opened it with a smooth motion and spoke clearly.

"Aethel-Galdr."

The air around Norman and the old man warped. A massive, invisible barrier slammed down, sealing the two of them inside a closed sphere of pure magic. Their voices continued to echo out, but the moment they spoke inside the barrier, the words became muffled, distorted, and impossible to understand.

The rest of the hooded figures moved as one.

They began pairing up with the remaining instructors. The air filled with the sound of clashing Grimoire and the first sparks of combat. Talia’s crimson scarf flared as she drew her own weapon and charged toward a pair of figures who had already engaged her. Milo and Iris moved with the other students toward the sky bridges, but not before Iris shot Arthur one last look — half proud, half worried — and disappeared into the crowd.

Arthur stood frozen for three heartbeats.

He remembered from the history lesson about this incident. Fifty years ago a forbidden ritual had torn a hole in reality.

The Equinox was already in motion. The academy’s strongest instructors were being dragged into a fight. Students were fleeing in every direction. The protective barrier was gone. The sky was open.

And the real threat had finally arrived.

Mimi’s voice suddenly filled Arthur’s mind, bright with excitement and something darker.

"Master... this is bad. This is very, very bad. That little girl from the sorting ceremony is going to be pissed when she finds out what they did to her precious academy."

Arthur’s hand tightened on the hilt of his training blade.

The first clash of weapons rang out across the sky.
