The Lust Grimoire: I Steal Magic By Fulfilling Her Desires
Chapter 24: The Ice Queen’s Wrath
Selene Frost stood in front of Arthur like a shield.
She had not hesitated. The moment Tom and the girl in the black cloak stepped through the vault door, Selene moved. One step forward, one hand back, her silver-white hair swinging with the motion and framing a face that had gone from sharp concern to furious, glacial calm. The ice-blue eyes that had once taught Arthur compression theory in a quiet classroom, drawing neat circles on the blackboard and correcting his wrist angle with a tap of her ruler, were now blazing with cold fury.
The entire treasury chamber had gone deathly silent except for the soft, irregular drip of blood from the two dead intruders near the black crystal slab. The blue runes on the walls pulsed slower now, as if the chamber itself was holding its breath.
The girl in the black cloak with golden lining was Selby. Arthur recognized her now, even with the hood down. She had been the one who had sealed Norman and the old professor inside that strange, humming barrier earlier on the sky bridge, her hands moving like she was weaving light. Now she stood beside Professor Tom with her hands clasped neatly in front of her, expression calm and almost curious, like a student who had walked into the wrong lecture and decided to stay and watch anyway. The golden lining of her cloak caught the blue light and glinted.
Tom spoke first. His voice was smooth and professional, the same even tone he used when he was explaining imperial history. No stress. No guilt.
"Vance. Professor Frost. I see you’ve been busy."
Selene’s gaze did not waver. She did not look at Arthur. She did not look at the blood. She looked only at Tom, and her Grimoire was already half out of her sleeve, its white edge gleaming.
"What are you doing with her?" Selene asked, her voice low. "Weren’t you just fighting her outside a moment ago? I saw you. On the western bridge. You had a barrier up. You were throwing stone spears at her."
Tom tilted his head slightly, almost amused that she had noticed.
"Yes, it was fun to act like we were fighting. We had to make it look convincing, didn’t we? There were too many eyes. But then I sensed my two men dying here, so I came to check. Their mana signatures just... vanished. That ice spear was yours, I assume? Very clean work."
Selene blinked once. A single, slow blink. "Acting? What are you trying to say?"
"You still don’t get it, do you?" Tom’s smile was small and cold and patient, like he was explaining a simple concept to a slow student. "How do you think everyone got inside the academy? This place has had the same barrier for three hundred years. A Tier 9 formation, layered with Lily’s personal wards. Do you really think the barrier just broke on its own because a few mercenaries shouted loud enough?"
The realization hit Selene like a physical blow. Arthur saw it in her shoulders, in the way her fingers tightened around her Grimoire.
"You’re the one who let them in?" she said.
"Bingo," Tom said cheerfully. He clapped his hands once, softly. "Exactly. It took me years to secretly figure out the barrier’s formation. The original stone tablets are in the restricted archive, you know. I had to copy them by hand at night. Even harder to keep track of Lily’s movements and make sure she wasn’t inside the academy when the signal came. She has a habit of appearing where you least expect her. So be a good little girl and step aside so we can go in and get what we came for. This doesn’t have to involve you."
Selene’s voice dropped to a dangerous whisper that made the frost on the floor crackle. "You traitor. My master trusted you. She brought you into the faculty. She vouched for you to the council."
Selby, who had been watching this exchange with polite detachment, finally spoke. Her voice was light, almost sweet.
"Why not just kill her?" she asked, looking at Tom. "She is in the way. And she looks like she is going to be annoying."
Tom shrugged, but his eyes never left Selene. "No, we can’t do that. She’s Lily’s precious disciple. Direct disciple. If we kill her, we won’t be able to deal with her wrath. You have not seen Lily angry, Selby. You do not want to. She would tear this entire Kingdom down looking for us. We take what we need and leave her alive. That was the deal."
Selby looked disappointed for half a second, her lower lip pushing out in a tiny pout, then her eyes brightened with genuine, childlike interest as she looked past Selene at Arthur.
"No fun. She looks strong. Stronger than the other teachers."
Tom’s gaze shifted to Arthur, still pale, still shaking against the pillar, his training blade useless in his trembling hand. His mana pool was still empty, a hollow ache behind his ribs.
"You can kill this boy, though," Tom said conversationally, as if discussing a chore. "From last month I saw him during the practical. I realised he has wierd Grimoire abilities. The way his pool moves. He could be a real problem later. Better to cut it early."
Selby’s eyes lit up. "Oh yeah. I noticed him too. He smells Weird."
Selene moved faster than either of them expected.
She stepped directly in front of Arthur, her back to him, her body becoming a complete wall between him and them. Her Grimoire unfolded fully from her sleeve with a soft, metallic click that echoed like a sword being drawn. The cover was pure white, unmarked except for the Ice Queen emblem in the center, a crown made of six interlocking snowflakes that glowed bright white.
"You are both dying here today," Selene said. It was not a threat. It was a statement of fact.
The temperature in the entire vault dropped by a full ten degrees in a single heartbeat. Arthur’s breath puffed white in front of him. Frost crystals exploded across the floor in every direction from Selene’s boots, racing up the walls and over the blood pools, sealing them under a thin sheet of ice.
Tom’s eyes widened, but not with fear. With genuine respect.
"There it is," he murmured. "A Tier 8 Grimoire that made you a genius ten years ago when you were only sixteen. The youngest to ever manifest a high-tier. But you can’t beat experience with talent alone, Selene."
Selene’s voice was ice scraping over stone. "We’ll see about that."
The fight exploded instantly.
Selene Frost summoned her Grimoire fully and opened it with a single fluid motion of her left hand. A long, razor-sharp ice sword unfolded from within the pages, not conjured, but built, layer by layer, from compressed frost. The air around her turned into a blizzard confined to a five foot radius. Snow swirled around her coat, her silver hair whipping in a wind that came from nowhere.
Tom raised his own Grimoire. It was nothing impressive to look at. A simple, heavy stone tome with a cracked earth crest on the front, its pages thick and yellowed. He did not waste time with flashy spells or chanted incantations. His ability was pure rock manipulation on the surface, but that was not why he was dangerous. His real strength, the reason he had survived as a spy for so long, came from his unmatched mana sensing. He could read the exact flow of mana in the air, predict every movement a mage was about to make by the way their pool shifted, and disrupt it before it even happened.
"Rock Wall."
A massive slab of solid rock erupted from the floor in front of him with a roar, three feet thick, veined with old quartz. Selene’s first attack, a horizontal slash of absolute cold that should have bisected both of them, struck it and shattered the ice sword into a thousand glittering shards. The force still sent the rock slab skidding back a foot, carving grooves in the marble, and sent Selene skidding back as well, her boots leaving twin lines in the frost.
Selby moved like a ghost. She did not have Tom’s power or Selene’s pedigree, but she was slippery. She pulled her own Grimoire - a thin black book with golden edges that matched her cloak - and began weaving a complex spell, silver runes forming in the air around them in overlapping chains. She was not attacking Selene directly. She was trying to interfere with her concentration, placing small, precise jamming sigils in the air that made the mana around Selene stutter and warp.
Selene did not panic. She discarded the broken ice sword without a glance and activated the first true technique from her Ice Queen Grimoire, her palm flat against the open page.
"Absolute Zero."
The temperature inside the vault plummeted so fast Arthur’s teeth began to chatter. Frost crystals exploded across the floor in a wave, climbing the vault door, covering the ancient protection runes in white. The air itself began to freeze, tiny ice particles glittering as they fell. Selby’s silver runes faltered for a second as the cold reached her fingers, her breath hitching. Even Tom’s rock wall groaned as moisture inside it froze and expanded.
Tom’s eyes never left Selene. He sensed every fluctuation in her mana flow, the way it dipped and surged before each technique.
"Disrupt."
A rock tendril, thick as a man’s arm, erupted from the floor behind Selene and wrapped around her wrist, trying to yank her off balance and break her connection to the Grimoire. Selene simply raised her free hand without looking and sent a pulse of Absolute Zero outward. The rock froze solid in an instant, the water inside it turning to ice, and shattered into useless, smoking pieces.
The three of them moved as one nightmare of clashing elements.
Selene danced through the chamber, using the massive mana pool under her skin to its absolute limit, her coat flaring, her sword reforming and breaking and reforming. She summoned a volley of ice spears that screamed toward Tom, who raised a dozen small rock shields that shattered one by one. She slammed her hand to the ground and raised a wall of clear ice to block Selby’s silver chains. She roared and summoned a massive ice dragon, fifteen feet long, its wings made of snow and its eyes blue fire, that roared through the air and smashed into Selby, who barely escaped with a swift, panicked teleport spell that left the smell of burnt ozone.
Selby’s spells were precise and unpredictable, silver threads that tried to bind Selene’s ankles, golden seals that tried to mute her Grimoire, but she was fighting a Tier 8 mage in her own domain. Every time she got close, the cold forced her back.
Tom stayed at a distance, manipulating the environment around them with flicks of his wrist. He turned the floor under Selene’s feet into shifting quicksand that tried to swallow her boots. He created two rock golems from the rubble of his wall that attacked her from behind with heavy fists. He even tried to lock her mana flow into impossible, knotted patterns so her spells would backfire inside her own body, a cruel, subtle technique that only a sensor like him could attempt.
Every time he thought he had her, every time the rock closed in or the golem’s fist came down, Selene found a way to counter. She used the cold itself as a weapon, freezing the very air Tom was trying to manipulate so his rock could not move through it. She used her experience, her genius, and the raw, overwhelming power of a Tier 8 Grimoire to trade blows with a man who had been hiding inside the academy for years, waiting for this exact moment.
The battle raged across the treasury chamber, ice and stone colliding, silver sigils flashing and dying.
Selene Frost fought like the Ice Queen she was named after - elegant, merciless, and completely unstoppable, her silver hair now flying free, her eyes twin blizzards.
And Tom and Selby, for the first time since the invasion began, were forced to work together just to survive.
Arthur could only watch from behind her shield, his empty mana pool aching, his bloody training blade forgotten in his hand, as the vault filled with snow.
The fight was far from over.
