The Lust Grimoire: I Steal Magic By Fulfilling Her Desires
Chapter 39: Aftermath Meeting
The morning light that entered Lily Nightshade’s office felt heavier than usual.
It wasn’t brighter. If anything, it was thinner, filtered through a long crack that ran diagonally across the reinforced window and through the lingering haze of dust that hadn’t settled since last night. The air still smelled faintly of burnt ozone, blood, and the sharp, astringent herbs the medical wing used by the barrel.
Every senior instructor who could still stand had been summoned.
Vice Principal Aldric sat near the window, his usual immaculate robe replaced by a simpler grey one, bandages peeking out from his collar and wrapping his left forearm. Every breath he took was shallow.
Talia Vane stood with her arms crossed, her instructor’s coat torn at the shoulder, a thin, still-red cut healing across her collarbone that she refused to let the healers close completely.
Selene Frost remained slightly behind the others, her usual blue dress gone, replaced by a clean, high-collared instructor coat that was too big for her. Her face was unreadable. The heads of Enchantments, Alchemy, and Combat filled the rest of the available space, some leaning against bookshelves, some sitting on the floor. No one touched the tea that had gone cold on Lily’s desk.
No one spoke until Lily, sitting cross-legged on top of her desk like a child on a throne, finally opened her mouth. She rolled a fresh strawberry lollipop from one cheek to the other.
"Start from the beginning," she said. Her voice was small. Light. "Everyone. Don’t skip."
Silence for a second. Then Aldric cleared his throat, and winced.
"I will go first," he said. His voice was hoarse. "At approximately 21:07, the academy barrier fluctuated. Like someone was testing a frequency. Then dozens of cloaked figures appeared inside the second courtyard. No teleportation circle. They used anchored stones. High-grade, military issue. They raised a secondary isolation barrier, cutting me off from the main campus. Norman was waiting inside it."
"Norman" The Combat Department head frowned. "The traitor from the —"
"Yes," Aldric said flatly. "He should not have been able to stand against me. Not after what I did to him fifty years ago. His meridians were shattered. I crippled his core myself, I thought he died even. But... he was different. Faster. His mana was denser, like it had been... refilled with something else. He took a direct hit from my [Pillar of Judgment] and kept moving. He’s already close to my current level. Whatever his master did to bring him back, it didn’t just heal him. It improved him."
Lily watched him, lollipop clicking against her teeth. She didn’t interrupt. She just pointed the lollipop at Talia next.
Talia uncrossed her arms.
"Two of them came for me. Garrick and some fire-mage bastard I didn’t recognize. Garrick fought like a mad dog. They weren’t trying to kill me quickly. They were holding me," she spat the word. "Garrick kept shouting about buying time. The fire one kept aiming for the support pillars of the east wing. They wanted to keep me busy while the others did their job."
One by one, the others gave their accounts.
The Enchantments head, a thin woman with soot on her hands, described how her entire formation room had short-circuited at once. "Like someone turned off a switch. My defensive arrays just... went dark. I’ve never seen anything dispel them that cleanly without destroying the runes."
The Alchemy head added, "They had precise teleportation stones. Not the unstable kind you buy on the black market. These were tuned to our wards. Someone gave them our internal coordinates."
When it came to Selene’s turn, the room looked at her. She kept her report short and clinical, her ice-blue eyes fixed on a point just past Lily’s shoulder.
"I was on patrol near the vault level when the barrier fell," she said. Her voice was even. "I noticed two intruders moving away from the main conflict toward the treasury. I followed. They were Tom and a woman named Selby. I engaged them inside the treasury itself. They retreated after securing an object."
Talia frowned. "Just two? In the treasury? What were they —"
"I handled it," Selene said, a little too quickly. She did not elaborate on the time spent inside the sealed space. On how the vault door had locked behind her. On anything else.
Lily listened without interruption until the last instructor finished. The only sound was the faint crackle of the mana lamp above her desk, which was still flickering.
Then she took the lollipop from her mouth and pointed it at the group. A sticky, pink circle.
"Okay. My turn," she said.
She hopped off the desk, her bare feet making no sound on the cold floor. Despite being the smallest person in the room, every eye followed her.
"At 20:55, an emergency bell rang. Gorgon’s bell," Lily said. "The one he only rings if the Demon King himself shows up at his door. So I went."
The vice principal’s eyes widened.
"But Gorgon is —"
"Gorgon is currently napping in his mountain and has no idea his bell was rung," Lily said sweetly. "Someone used his bell as a distraction. A fake signal, layered with just enough of his mana to fool even me for a few minutes. They planned this ahead of time. They wanted me out of the academy. They knew I was the only one who could maintain the grand barrier alone."
Silence settled over the room, heavier this time. Understanding dawned.
Talia clenched her fists. "So it was all —"
"An inside job, yes," Lily said, popping the lollipop back in. "Professor Tom was the one who broke the formation from the inside. He’s spent years studying the barrier. Not to protect it. To find the one thread you could pull to unravel the whole thing. He waited until I was gone, then he opened the door for them. Clever boy. Annoying."
Aldric’s weathered face tightened, guilt and anger warring in his expression. "Tom... I recommended him for tenure. I vouched for his research."
"He vouched for himself for a long time," Lily said, not unkindly. "Don’t beat yourself up, old man. He fooled everyone."
Talia’s voice cut in next, sharp and practical.
"What were they even after? They fought hard, but they never tried to destroy the academy itself. If Equinox wanted us gone, they could have tried to collapse the dorms, the library. They didn’t. They fought just enough to keep us busy."
Everyone looked at Selene again.
Selene stepped forward slightly, her hands clasped in front of her.
"I saw them take a key from the treasury," she said. "It was on the lowest pedestal, in the uncatalogued section. Tom held it when they left. A simple iron key. No aura, no enchantment that I could feel."
The room erupted into low, urgent whispers.
"What key? There are hundreds of sealed items in the vault."
"An uncatalogued pedestal? Why would something with no aura be in the treasury?"
"Why would they risk everything for a single key?"
Lily raised one small hand. The whispers died immediately, as if cut by a blade.
"That key," she said, her red eyes glinting, "has been sitting in the treasury for many centuries. Long before this academy was even built, that vault was here. We have no records of its original purpose. The previous headmasters tried to appraise it. Tried to destroy it. Nothing worked. So we left it there and forgot about it. The fact that this group came specifically for it, just for that one piece of iron..."
She let the words hang, looking at each instructor in turn.
"...tells us how important it is to them. More important than killing us."
She sucked on her lollipop thoughtfully, then added the part that made every face in the room change.
"Oh, and one more thing. Their leader — the man in the violet-lined cloak — is still alive."
Shock rippled through the instructors like a physical wave.
"We saw him die!" The Combat head shot to his feet. "Headmistress, with respect, I was there! His upper body was completely erased by your spell! There was nothing left!"
"I know what I saw too," Talia said, her eyes narrowed. "No one survives that."
Lily’s red eyes were cold. The childish lilt was gone from her voice.
"I erased him. Here. But his body regenerated far away. Somewhere outside the kingdom, I think. I felt the mana snap back together. Like a puppet string being pulled. It’s not resurrection. It’s something else. A remote vessel. A clone. A curse. I don’t know yet."
She tapped her temple.
"We are dealing with something unknown. Something that can fool my senses and rebuild a body after total annihilation. It is important that we notify the other kingdoms immediately."
A younger instructor near the back, who had been holding a stack of parchment, cleared his throat nervously.
"W-what about the classes, Headmistress? The students... they’re terrified. Some parents are already at the gates demanding to take their children home."
Lily turned her gaze to him. Her expression softened, just a fraction.
"Cancel them for the next week," she answered without hesitation. "All lectures, all sparring, all exams. Focus on healing the injured and rebuilding whatever was destroyed. The first-years have already seen enough blood for their first year. Let them sleep. Let them write letters home. And let the senior students help with the repairs, it will keep their hands busy and their minds off last night."
She hopped back up onto her desk and sat cross-legged again, looking out at the damaged courtyard through the cracked window.
"Also prepare a formal message explaining the attack. Don’t hide anything, but don’t embellish either. Send it to the royal palace and to the major noble houses by noon. If we stay silent they will hear the rumors and come here themselves with their private armies and their questions. Better they receive the truth from us. Controlled truth."
The vice principal nodded slowly, already straightening despite his wounds.
"I will handle the reports to the palace. They trust my seal more."
"I will organize the reconstruction teams and the patrol rotations," Talia said immediately. "We’ll need double guards on the vault. Triple."
Selene remained quiet, but her ice-blue eyes stayed fixed on Lily’s small back. Her hands were clenched so tight her knuckles were white inside her sleeves.
Lily continued staring out at the damaged academy. The smoke had mostly cleared now, but you could still see the black scorch marks on the eastern wall, and the place where the garden used to be.
"One more thing," she said quietly, so quietly they had to lean in to hear. "No one is to speak carelessly about the key or the regenerated man in front of the students. The less panic we create, the better. Tell them it was a territorial dispute. Tell them it was a rogue faction. Tell them whatever you need to tell them to keep them calm."
She looked over her shoulder, and her smile was all teeth.
"Because if the students panic, the parents panic. And if the parents panic, the whole continent panics."
Chairs scraped. Robes rustled. The instructors began filing out in small groups, already discussing repair schedules, medical priorities, and guard rosters in hushed, urgent voices. The weight in the room didn’t lift as they left; it just spread out into the corridors with them.
Selene was one of the last to leave. As she reached the door, her hand on the frame, she glanced back once. Lily had not moved from the window. The lollipop was gone, and her small hands were clasped behind her back like an old general.
Outside in the corridor, the morning light felt a little colder than before.
The academy had survived the first strike of Equinox.
No one in that office believed it would be the last.
