"Are you sure?" Rauf’s voice was cold as he stared at the report in front of him.

The information June had given him had finally paid off.

The man she had discovered in the picture was Dante’s right-hand man, which meant he might have been sent by Dante to the party.

"Yes, sir," Henson responded. "The Vassaris didn’t send any invitation to the Monterrios because of the feud between them."

But Serena had made sure to tighten the security of the mansion.

How could the Monterrios gain access without an invitation? The guards had checked everyone’s invitations carefully.

And he was certain Serena must have seen them. There had to be a reason she was quiet about them.

"I need you to find out how they gained entrance to the mansion," Rauf told him. "I also need you to find out exactly how many men the Monterrios had planted at the party."

Henson nodded again.

Rauf sighed.

It was enough that he had discovered one of the men himself. Now, June had discovered another.

Who knew what sort of information they had gotten at the party? And who knew if they had actually achieved their aim?

Rauf needed to know what Serena was planning before moving forward.

"Let Mrs. Salvador know I would like to see her."

Henson shifted on his feet. "Ever since Mrs. Salvador moved in, you haven’t stepped into your bedroom, boss."

Yeah. Rauf had been sleeping in his office, and he had no complaints whatsoever about it.

"I won’t step into the bedroom without her permission."

Henson knew that when it came to June, his boss would do almost anything. He had even sent his mother to the guest house for her sake.

But he didn’t bring that up.

He was supposed to find out why Mrs. Salvador Snr. was obeying Samir, but he hadn’t made any progress on that.

"Okay, boss," he finally said.

As he was about to step out, Rauf added, "Let her know it’s to inform her about her research."

He knew it would be hard to get June to visit him without a reason.

A few minutes later, there was a pounding sound on his door. And before he could ask her to come in, June had already welcomed herself in, carrying her jotter and phone.

Rauf smirked at the jotter.

It was cute how she was taking note of every piece of information as if she was going to study it later.

Rauf’s eyes moved over her body. She was wearing one of those maternity gowns they had gotten together and looked effortlessly sexy in it.

Rauf felt a twitch in his dick.

He shook his head.

He shouldn’t be thinking about something like this, especially with her condition.

Unaware of the kind of feelings she was invoking in him, June leaned on the table in excitement.

"Henson said you have news for me."

Her excitement was like that of a child who had been told Christmas had come early.

"Yeah."

And Rauf told her everything Henson had found out.

When he was done, June was staring at him in a way that said, I told you so, and she seemed to have developed more questions too. 𝖋𝘳ℯ

"How do you think they were able to get access to Mother’s mansion?"

Rauf pinched his nose. "I already put Henson on it. I’m sure we will find something soon."

June nodded, relaxing in her chair.

"And here I was thinking Dad would be the one to disrupt the ceremony."

Rauf shook his head. "No one wanted the ceremony to be more successful than Samir. I’m sure he is hoping to use Amie to get his hands on some of Serena’s wealth."

June tightened her fist beside her.

"Those greedy people! I guess I shouldn’t feel sorry for Amie if anything happens to her for impersonating me."

Rauf smiled at her.

At least she wasn’t letting herself be pushed over by them.

"So, what are we going to do now?"

Rauf’s smile froze. "We?"

June nodded eagerly. "Aren’t we working as a team now? If not for me, you wouldn’t have been able to discover Dante’s right-hand man. So, I think it’s only right we work together. Who knows? We may figure this out together."

Rauf stared at her.

She surely was getting comfortable around him, and for that, he was relieved.

But thinking she could solve a feud between two Mafia empires by doing a little research on her phone? That was a level of danger Rauf wasn’t willing to put her through.

He shook his head.

"There’s no we in this investigation. You stay out of this, focus on the baby and resting, and I’m going to deal with the rest."

The temperature in the room changed as June glared at him.

"If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t even have a lead right now."

"This is dangerous territory, Mami, and you know I will choose your safety over everything."

The nickname washed over her, making her relax, but June didn’t stop glaring at him.

She had taken a step because she didn’t want to keep resting, but it seemed Rauf was going to return her to square one.

Not that she was going to listen to him anyway.

She raised a brow at him.

"So, what do you intend to do?"

Rauf had expected a fight or an argument, but this acceptance?

It was out of the question.

Instead of responding, Rauf stared at her.

"What are you planning?"

"Nothing!" June responded immediately.

She wore her best poker face.

There was no way she was going to trust Rauf with what she planned. After all, he had tried to sabotage her twice now.

"I just wanted to know what you plan to do," she replied. "Don’t I deserve to know that too?"

Rauf bit his lower lip.

He could tell June was up to something, but he knew he couldn’t force the words out of her mouth.

While focusing on her reaction, he said, "I plan to visit the Vassaris. I might get more information from their footage."
