Chapter 123: Of course, I’m her husband.

June opened and closed her mouth in disbelief. It was hard for her to believe someone had actually been watching her while she was having fun.

"But why?"

"We are yet to identify the reason." Rauf sighed. "It’s the reason I insisted you don’t go out."

Just when she thought she was making progress, another issue had to come up.

"Do you think they know the truth?" she asked.

Rauf shook his head. "I’m not sure. But they believe you’re important, and that too is dangerous."

June furrowed her brow. She was in the room with him, but she wasn’t really paying attention to whatever he was saying anymore.

Rauf mirrored the look on her face.

He hated the expression on her face and wanted to change the topic.

"When is your appointment?"

June was lost in thoughts of who could be watching her.

It took Rauf tapping the table to get her attention.

"What?"

"The appointment," Rauf said patiently.

"What appointment?"

Rauf sighed. The issue was truly weighing on her mind, and he wished he could divert her attention completely from it.

His gaze moved to her stomach.

"The baby’s doctor appointment."

He could remember how he had felt when June gave him the opportunity to feel the baby kicking, and he was eager to know more about the baby.

"Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot to inform you. I have an appointment tomorrow. I hope it doesn’t disrupt your schedule."

He smiled.

He didn’t care what he had on his schedule. He was ready to cancel everything for the appointment, but he didn’t say that out loud.

He only said, "There is nothing on my schedule. Absolutely nothing. Just let me know when you’re going, and I will meet you."

June stared at him.

If she were being honest with herself, she wasn’t really looking forward to the appointment.

The last time she had met a doctor, she had received a warning, and June didn’t think she had actually followed any of the warnings.

She might not be working at the pet clinic anymore, but she was still doing things she considered dangerous.

Before Rauf could ask more questions, she stood up and left the office.

The rest of the day was unbearably long for June.

This time, she didn’t bother searching for the grandfather or Dante himself. She only lay on the bed, trying to calm herself.

She needed to look relaxed enough before visiting the doctor the next day.

The next morning, June awoke to someone knocking on her door.

Between thinking and trying to relax, she had no idea when she had finally fallen asleep.

June yawned and stretched her limbs.

"Who is that?" she asked, merely out of courtesy.

Ever since she moved into the building, the only person who had come knocking on her door was Henson, and she expected no one else but him.

With that in mind, she didn’t bother checking her nightdress as she went to open the door slightly.

She was only going to receive whatever message he had to give her from the doorway.

But standing at the door was the person she least expected.

Her eyes widened, and she immediately wanted to close the door as she became conscious of what she was wearing.

But before she could close it, he placed his foot against the door, stopping it.

His gaze moved slowly over her, but most of her body was blocked by the door.

His eyes stopped at her chest level, and he swallowed.

He pretended not to have been looking at her.

"Aren’t you getting ready for the appointment?"

June felt her cheeks heat up.

"Oh, the appointment. Of course, of course, I’m going. I’ll get ready soon. Could you please wait for me?" she stammered.

Rauf smiled.

"No problem. I’ll be waiting for you in the living room."

Before he could turn his back, she slammed the door shut and rested her back against it, taking a deep breath.

"How could you, June?" she scolded herself. "You should have confirmed who it was before you opened the door."

In a matter of minutes, she was dressed.

June made sure to wear one of the biggest maternity dresses they had gotten, and she avoided Rauf’s gaze throughout the journey to the hospital.

Even when he asked her for directions to the hospital, she stared out the window and mumbled, "Turn right. Turn left," without actually looking at him.

Rauf could tell she was still embarrassed about the whole situation and shook his head slowly.

Which part of her hadn’t he seen before?

But now she was uncomfortable showing them to him.

Well, he guessed he just had to make her comfortable with him again soon.

Finally, he parked at the hospital entrance.

Before he could open June’s door for her, she was already out of the car, walking as fast as she could.

Rauf smiled as he followed behind her, easily catching up with her with his long strides.

The hospital was quite crowded as a lot of people moved around.

Rauf made sure to stay beside June.

Maybe it was to declare that they were together. June didn’t know, but he was always beside her.

Soon, they got to Dr. Ashley’s office.

June knocked on the door softly.

"Come in," a tiny voice called from behind the door.

June opened the door slowly and walked in first, with Rauf following behind her.

Dr. Ashley, who had never seen June with anyone apart from Emily during her appointments, looked at Rauf in surprise.

She could still remember clearly that June had told her she didn’t have a husband, but merely looking at the man beside her made Dr. Ashley wonder if something had changed.

With a wide smile on her face, she welcomed them in.

"Welcome. Please, have a seat."

June sat down, and Rauf took the seat beside her.

Dr. Ashley looked between them curiously.

"And you are...?"

"Rauf Salvador."

His voice sent a chill through Dr. Ashley’s bones.

For a moment, she was quiet.

Then she smiled awkwardly. "I’m sorry. I thought you were her husband."

Before June could correct her, Rauf pulled her closer to him.

"Of course, I’m her husband."
