"I’m sorry, Mr. Salvador, but Miss Trevor refused to sign the divorce papers." Rauf’s lawyer’s voice echoed in his ear.

Rauf removed the phone from his ear, placed it on the table, and put it on speaker.

"What do you mean she refused to sign the divorce papers? You assured me it was going to be easy." Rauf’s voice rise slightly as he replied the lawyer.

"Sir, it’s exactly as I said. I thought it was going to be easy since she wasn’t the one beside you when you got married, and she would be willing to let go. But Miss Amie refuses to sign the divorce papers."

Rauf had already expected this from Amie.

Ever since he received the call from Serena informing him about the clause she had placed on the inheritance, Rauf knew Amie was going to refuse. However, he had expected his lawyer to do better.

"I didn’t pay you to think. I need you to take action. If she isn’t willing to sign, then find a way to resolve this. All I know is that I don’t want her name attached to mine any longer."

"Yes, sir," the lawyer responded, his voice vibrating through the phone.

Without waiting for another word, Rauf ended the call.

Did she expect him to remain married to Amie when all he wanted was to cut ties with her?

He could clearly remember June’s reaction when his mother had mentioned the divorce the previous day.

June might act as though the divorce was none of her business and that it wasn’t a big deal, but Rauf knew that if he ever wanted a chance with her, he needed to clear things completely with Amie.

When he planned to get June back, he never thought Amie would become an obstacle. But right now, she felt like the biggest obstacle to Rauf’s plans.

Suddenly, the door to his office opened, and, to no one’s surprise, June stepped in.

Recently, she had been coming in whenever she had questions to ask. She was more serious than he had expected, and there seemed to be a positive improvement in her progress.

Yet, Rauf asked, "Is there any problem?"

June narrowed her eyes as if she could read his mind. "No," she answered. Then she asked, "Is there something wrong?"

Rauf pinched the bridge of his nose. He had already mastered the art of not wearing his emotions on his face, so there was no way June could know what was going on with him. However, she asked again, "What happened? You don’t look yourself."

Rauf didn’t bother hiding it. He told her what the lawyer had said.

Soon, June had settled onto the sofa in his office.

"I don’t really think Amie cares about you. It’s just about the inheritance."

Rauf stared at her before saying, "Ouch! You said that like I’m not likeable."

June rolled her eyes. "What I mean is that she hasn’t been here to cause any trouble ever since I moved in. Even during her party, she barely gave you any attention. It’s like her feelings for you have changed."

Rauf shook his head. "I knew she never liked me. That’s one of the reasons I thought this divorce would go through faster than anything."

June smirked. "Amie might not like you, but she wouldn’t pass up any opportunity to get more money."

"Okay," Rauf said.

If money was the reason she insisted on remaining married to him, she was in for a huge disappointment.

He wouldn’t let a single cent of his money reach her.

According to him, she had already received enough of his money.

June watched him for a while before asking, "What do you intend to do?" Her voice carried more amusement than curiosity.

"Are you having fun?"

June shrugged. "I can’t say it hasn’t been entertaining."

Rauf smirked. "You need to find something more entertaining than my misery."

"Oh, please! I can’t think of anything more fun at the moment." June teased. "I wouldn’t mind a bowl of popcorn to accompany it."

Rauf found it more funny than annoying. "If this is payback for what I did, I fully accept it."

June waved her hand. "And now, you’re the one making it all boring."

Finally, she stood up from the chair. "I want to ask a question."

The playful expression on her face had disappeared, replaced by a serious one.

"What?"

"Can I invite a friend over?"

Rauf stared at her as if he couldn’t believe she was asking that. "Of course, you can invite whoever you want over. I don’t mind."

June’s eyes widened. "Really?"

He nodded. "June, you don’t need my permission to do anything you want in this house. This place is just as much yours as it is mine."

June’s lips curled into a smile. "Can I have you thrown out of this place?"

Rauf froze.

He could tell she was teasing him, but even if it was a joke, he nodded. "If that’s what you want, June. You’re free to do absolutely anything you like."

June stared at him.

He wore such a serious expression that she couldn’t tell whether he was joking or being serious.

So, she turned away, planning to leave the room. But before she left, she turned towards him.

"But seriously, what do you intend to do about Amie?"

"I think it’s time I paid her a visit. I need to remind her who she’s dealing with."

"Do you want me to go with you?" June added. She wouldn’t want to miss the look on Amie’s face when Rauf told her that he didn’t care about her.

Amie had always been smug about being the one who held Rauf’s affections.

And June was feeling pretty petty. She would love to rub that fact in Amie’s face.

But Rauf decided to burst her bubble.

"No! I don’t need you dealing with a snake like that. I’ll handle her."

June shrugged. "Fine. I wish you the best of luck."
