The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 53: I’m not your wife.
Samir smiled when he saw the alert Amie had sent to him. She was the only daughter he could honestly rely on. As he stared at the alert, his thoughts were filled with just one person, June.
How could she possibly know where Serena lived? Could it be a coincidence that she was infatuated with her son like Amie said, or did she find something out through that letter?
If he had known Serena was now different, he wouldn’t have bothered giving the letter to June.
But that was by the way. He needed to do something about it soon.
He picked up his phone and dialed a number. First, they exchanged pleasantries because it was someone he knew. Someone who had been working with him for years.
"I want you to gain access to the Vassari’s mansion as a guard. There’s someone living there I want you to take out."
"Vassari." The man’s voice shook. "That’s a high-profile case. It’s not going to be easy, especially if the person is under their protection."
Samir shook his head. "Don’t worry about that. I have someone on the inside. Getting recommended by her is a guaranteed way of getting access to the mansion."
"Okay. If you say so."
"I’ll send you every information you need about your target."
When he hung up the call, his face stretched into a smile. With June gone, Serena wouldn’t have a single reason not to trust his words.
Then, he might be able to make his comeback into her life.
Him, Amie, and Serena. They would make the perfect family.
June stared at the car in front of her. When Chris had insisted she would need a car to go to the clinic, she never thought it was going to be something this expensive.
She had thought it would be a simple car that wouldn’t stand out in the neighborhood.
But this... She shook her head.
"Miss..." the driver/bodyguard said.
June frowned at him. "There’s no way I am getting into that. Where’s Chris?"
The man’s facial expression didn’t change. June couldn’t tell if he was angry or pleased.
"Mr. Vassari left very early this morning. He had some things to handle."
June’s frown got deeper. "So, what are we supposed to do? Could you perhaps change this to a smaller car?"
As if she had been eavesdropping on their conversation, Amie stepped out from where she had probably been hiding.
"You can take mine." She pointed to a small white car. It was Samir’s gift to her. "I don’t mind taking that."
She pointed at the car June was supposed to use.
Even though Amie might want to hide it, June could see how wide her eyes were on the car. It was as if she couldn’t wait to start riding it.
June stared from her car to hers. Who knew what she had planned in the car?
June turned back to the guard. "We have no choice but to take this. I can always complain to Chris later."
Before June could open the door herself, the guard had already gone to help her.
She settled into the car, watching the scowl on Amie’s face as she stared at her.
She might still think she was the heiress of the family, but June knew she was nothing. The maids here were better than her.
When the car drove off, she finally relaxed in it, dozing off occasionally before she got to the clinic.
It was sad that she didn’t see Milo all through the previous day. But the mansion was big, and he could be anywhere. She planned on asking Chris.
When she saw they were getting closer to the clinic, she asked him to stop.
"I’ll be dropping here. You can take a break or something."
But as soon as June got down from the car, the guard also got down. He put a bit of distance between him and June, but she could tell he was following her.
She turned towards him. "You don’t need to follow me. This place is safe."
"I’m just following the instructions I was given," he said and continued following her.
June rolled her eyes.
She had told Chris she didn’t need this, but he insisted.
She tried to ignore the man following behind her like he was part of the random people walking in the street.
Walking faster to avoid looking at him, the clinic soon came into view.
Again, there was a man standing in front of the clinic. His back was to her.
June frowned.
It couldn’t be another delivery, could it?
Chris wouldn’t be sending more surprises for her.
But the closer she got to the clinic, the more the outline of the man standing in front of the clinic became familiar.
It couldn’t be.
For a second, her step faltered before she started walking faster again.
The man standing in front of the clinic turned as if he could perceive her presence. He was carrying a small dog that was sleeping peacefully in his hand.
June stopped.
What was he doing here? she thought. So early in the morning, and where did the dog come from?
He raised the dog up. "I brought my dog for treatment."
June frowned at him. "What are you doing here?"
"I just told you. Bingo needs to be treated. He hasn’t been eating well."
June stared at him in disbelief. The dog she was looking at looked very fine. But she couldn’t just turn him away because she hated the owner’s face.
She turned back to see the guard had stopped following her. He was standing a bit far from her, but his eyes were very much on her, and he was typing something on his phone as if giving someone a report.
June groaned.
She thought her life was going to get simple. She never knew it would be this complicated.
Ignoring the look on Rauf’s face, she opened the clinic door and stepped inside.
Immediately, she collected the dog from Rauf, scooping out some food for it to check if he wasn’t truly eating.
The dog leaped on the food and finished it within seconds.
June faced Rauf’s back. "The dog is fine. You can leave now."
But Rauf wasn’t ready to leave. He stared at the dog as if he was surprised he was suddenly eating.
"Really, Bingo." Then he faced June again. "I forgot to let you know he’s also finding it hard to pass out faeces."
Silence.
When June made no attempt to touch the dog, Rauf smirked at her.
"You can also test that out." Then he blinked intentionally at her. "Bingo is very, very important to me. You need to check everything that’s wrong with him. I want him healthy."
Then he proceeded to take a seat. It was the same seat Chris had sat in while waiting for her.
Bingo walked around the clinic as if he couldn’t be bothered about the new environment.
The heaviness of his stare settled on June. She couldn’t do anything.
How long had she wanted those eyes on her? But now that they were on her, it didn’t quite feel like what she had thought.
With a frown, she turned to him again. "There’s nothing wrong with your dog. You can leave now."
Rauf didn’t look away from her. He didn’t spare his dog a glance as he continued.
"Is this how you treat your clients?" For a brief second, he looked at the door. "The other day I came here, the older man was more accommodating. I think you have a lot to learn from him."
What older man? June thought.
Wait.
He had been here before.
He already knew where she worked, when she thought he had no idea. So, she had wasted her effort trying to lead him away from her workplace the other day.
Seeing that he wasn’t ready to budge, June tried ignoring him. It wasn’t exactly easy to ignore someone like Rauf.
Every second, she prayed Andy would walk in and turn him away. But she knew Andy had no say over a man like Rauf. So, on second thought, she prayed Andy shouldn’t come early until he left.
She wouldn’t want anyone she knew getting mixed in their relationship.
The silence stretched between them, and June did anything to keep herself busy. Anything apart from sparing the man close to her a glance.
The dog was the only one making a sound in the clinic.
June thought if he was tired of sitting down, he would finally leave the clinic and she would be free.
What she wasn’t expecting was the question he asked her.
"When are you coming back home?"
Just like the previous day, she ignored him.
He could force himself into her space, but he couldn’t force her to say what she didn’t want to say.
"Even if you don’t say a word, I want you to know, you’re still married to me."
That seemed to get to June. She turned to him, giving him her full attention for the first time.
"Excuse me, Mr. Salvador. Your wife is Amie Trevor, not me."
