Chapter 505 506: An Encountered Demon, a Place to Investigate

  • Next Chapter

Just as Liu Ling had said, Yun Mengshang had a taste for this sort of thing. When Chen Dong saw that some of the books had illustrations, he put them directly into his ring.

After Chi Yuan left, Chen Dong emerged and said, "I have a plan, but I need to go back and prepare. I'll return tomorrow!" With that, he departed.

Yun Misha was about to ask if they should tail the Demon Race member, but then she saw Yun Mengshang rushing back into her cavern residence in a panic.

Meanwhile, when Yun Mengshang saw that some of her books were missing, she was instantly furious and mortified! Only one thought filled her mind: 'What will I do if the Fox Demons under my command find out their Fox Demon King reads that kind of novel?!'

After leaving the City Lord's Mansion, Chen Dong returned to the inn and started flipping through the novels. The more he read, the more he thought Yun Mengshang had excellent taste. 'This is pretty thrilling!'

That night, Chen Dong went out for a walk. He'd had about as much as he could take of reading those novels. To his surprise, he spotted one of the three Demon Race members—the one disguised as a Martial Artist.

Without a second thought, Chen Dong quietly began to follow him.

The streets were crowded with people from the Human Race and the Demon Race, so even a Nascent Soul Stage Demon Race member like him failed to notice Chen Dong. Besides, he seemed a little drunk.

After winding through several streets, Chen Dong followed the Demon Race member to a brilliantly lit pavilion. The flirtatious chatter of women drifted out from within, audible even from the street.

A look at the sign revealed it to be Qingxiang Tower.

Chen Dong froze. 'So, should I follow him in... or should I follow him in?'

From within the Jade Embryo, Mu Qingzhu roared in anger, "Damn you, Chen Dong! It's only been a few days, and you're already itching to visit a place like this!"

Chen Dong quickly denied it. "I'm investigating the Demon Race!"

Mu Qingzhu snorted. "Investigating? It's obvious you just wanted to go in yourself!"

Even though she had seen right through him, Chen Dong refused to admit it and strode boldly into Qingxiang Tower.

Mu Qingzhu continued to rage via voice transmission, "You damn Chen Dong! If you pull any funny business today, I swear I'm done with you!"

With a broad smile on his face, Chen Dong sent a placating voice transmission back to her. "Qingzhu, such harsh words! I'm just investigating, I swear!"

A voluptuous Madam with gaudy makeup came forward and took Chen Dong by the arm. "Well, hello, Brother Yao! I don't believe I've seen your face before. First time? Not to worry, we at Qingxiang Tower guarantee your satisfaction. Just tell me what you like, and I'll arrange everything for you!"

A strange light flashed in the Madam's eyes as she seemingly tried to gauge Chen Dong's cultivation Realm.

Chen Dong straightened up and coughed. "AHEM!" It was his first time in a place like this, after all. Even with his Golden Core cultivation, he felt a little stiff.

But he hadn't forgotten his purpose. His Divine Sense swept across the main hall, but he found Qingxiang Tower was filled with restrictions blocking it. He couldn't perceive anything beyond what his own eyes could see. 'As expected of this kind of establishment,' he thought wryly. 'So considerate.'

Fortunately, the Demon Race member he was following had also just entered and was heading upstairs, his arm around a Fox Race woman.

Needing an excuse on the spot, Chen Dong blurted out, "Shopkeeper Huang from the teahouse sent me."

The Madam's expression soured for a moment. "That old scoundrel must have charged you a fortune in Spirit Stones!" Then, her face broke into a fawning smile. "But rest assured, sir. Since you were referred by a regular, I'll make sure you get the very best we have to offer!"

She immediately called over a Fox Race Attendant. "Xiaohong, take this gentleman to a private room!"

The Madam gave Xiaohong a series of meaningful glances, then whispered to Chen Dong, "If you have any... special requests, just let Xiaohong know. She'll take care of it for you!"

With that, the Madam turned to greet another arriving guest.

The Attendant, Xiaohong, looked to be about sixteen. Her clothes were revealing, and her cultivation Realm was obvious at a glance—only the Qi Cultivation Stage. She had likely only gained her human form a short time ago.

"This way, sir!" Xiaohong led Chen Dong up the stairs, and his eyes nonchalantly flickered toward the Demon Race member in front of them.

Just as Chen Dong expected, the room he was assigned was right next to the one the Demon Race member had entered.

Once inside the room, Chen Dong tossed a Top-Grade Spirit Stone to Xiaohong. "Go and prepare some food and wine for now."

Receiving the Spirit Stone, Xiaohong was pleasantly surprised. 'This is one rich demon!' she thought. She smiled, nodded, and left to prepare his order.

Chen Dong immediately set to work breaking the restrictions between the two rooms. These were high-level, fourth-tier restrictions, meaning they were set by someone at least at the Nascent Soul Stage. Furthermore, they were intricately interlinked, clearly the work of an expert in restrictive Arrays. Even a Divinity Transformation Stage master would have difficulty disabling them without resorting to brute force.

Fortunately, Chen Dong's own skill with restrictive Arrays was profound. He was incredibly fast at dismantling smaller-scale restrictions that weren't part of a grand Array. Very quickly, he created a small opening, allowing his Divine Sense to slip through and spy on the adjacent room.

The moment the Demon Race member next door entered his room, he began groping the Attendant who had led him in. The Attendant struggled fiercely. Many of the Attendants here were merely servers, earning Spirit Stones by waiting on guests, not entertaining them. The Attendant next door was clearly one of the latter.

When she continued to resist, the Demon Race member slapped her across the face. The force of the blow sent the Qi Cultivation Stage Attendant staggering, and she coughed up blood.

Looking displeased, the Demon Race member tossed out two Top-Grade Spirit Stones—an even more generous sum than Chen Dong had offered—and told the Attendant to hurry up and get someone for him.

This was supposed to be a private lounge for simple recreation, not a room for receiving clients. But the Demon Race member was clearly too impatient to even bother changing rooms.

This was perfect. It meant Chen Dong wouldn't have to follow him any further.

The Attendant, however, just assumed the Demon Race member was a practitioner of dual cultivation overcome with lust. She picked up the Spirit Stones and immediately went to make the arrangements. Her Realm was too low; she couldn't detect the man's Demonic Qi at all.
