The Master and His Wealthy Fiancée
Chapter 545: Regaining Consciousness
Chapter 545: Chapter 546: Regaining Consciousness
Yun Misha’s brows were tightly knitted, her face etched with worry.
She had arrived not long after Yun Mengshang, but even though Yun Mengshang’s aura was right here, she was nowhere to be found.
Just moments before, it was as if this entire expanse had been cut off from the world, only to reappear without warning.
Only then could she clearly sense Yun Mengshang’s aura. This frozen world was obviously the result of a Frost Fox Race Divine Technique, yet Mengshang was not here.
She took a careful sniff of the air. There was no mistaking it. Just a few moments ago, Mengshang had definitely been right here on this snowy ground.
‘But where could she have gone now?’
‘How could she, a cultivator at the Divinity Transformation Stage, not see how this was done?!’
Throughout the entire Floating Shadow Realm, she could only think of one person capable of this: the unfathomably mysterious Lord You of the Human Race. When she factored in the Tier Nine Talisman that Zisang Jin had produced, she was certain Lord You must have been involved.
But why would Lord You attack Mengshang? Yun Misha couldn’t wrap her head around it. A message from her clan had arrived: several cracks had appeared on Mengshang’s Life Token, but it hadn’t completely shattered.
In other words, Mengshang’s life force was damaged, but she wasn’t dead yet. How could Yun Misha not be worried sick?
The streaks of light following her landed at that moment. The figures within bowed to Yun Misha. “Grand Elder, our King…?” one asked.
Yun Misha’s long, alluring eyes narrowed. She didn’t speak aloud, instead sending a mental message. “Lock down this information. No one is to spread rumors. Tell the public that the Demon King has entered seclusion!”
Yun Misha’s personal feelings for Yun Mengshang were one thing, but the Fox Demon Race’s political situation was not yet stable. If the Demon Race found out that Yun Mengshang was not only missing but had also suffered damage to her life force, they would surely return with a vengeance.
Besides the Fox Demon Race, many other Demon Races from the surrounding areas were patrolling nearby. The fact that a battle had erupted here, only for the area to be sealed off, naturally aroused their suspicion.
This was especially true for the nearby Tiger Race. Lu Kun had brought a group of Tiger Demons to observe from a distance, but sensing Yun Misha’s presence, he didn’t dare approach.
The sudden reappearance of this space was clearly the work of a Frost Fox Race Divine Technique, and he was intensely curious. However, the Tiger Race and the Fox Demon Race were now open enemies, so asking for information was out of the question. He could only wait for Yun Misha to leave before moving in to investigate.
The current Demon King of the Tiger Race, a man named Lu Shan, wore yellow robes and had a rather simple-looking face. He scratched his head and chuckled. “Grand Elder, I heard that the Fox Demon Race’s Demon King, Yun Mengshang, was getting married just today. Now we see signs of a Frost Fox Race Divine Technique here. Do you think there’s a connection?”
Lu Kun shot him a cold glare. He’d always felt this current Demon King was a little too simple-minded, making him a liability.
His contempt was plain to see. “You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask? The Frost Fox Race isn’t exactly small. How should I know if they’re related!”
Lu Shan pressed on. “But… but a Divine Technique with such immense Demonic Power would require a Nascent Soul Stage cultivator at the very least, right? There are only a handful of powerful Nascent Soul Stage experts in the Frost Fox Race. Grand Elder, do you know who might be responsible?”
Lu Kun flicked his sleeve in irritation. “Are you done yet? So annoying! Go investigate it yourself!”
Lu Kun found the current Demon King not just simple-minded but also full of questions—it was endlessly annoying. That was why he hadn’t brought him along on the last raid against the Fox Demon Race. If Lu Shan’s power didn’t far exceed that of the other Nascent Soul Tiger Demons, Lu Kun would have already replaced him.
However, a well-hidden glint of cunning flashed through Lu Shan’s eyes. Lu Kun’s authority was absolute. If Lu Shan were to investigate this on his own without a direct order, Lu Kun would surely reprimand him, or even punish him severely. The internal strife within the Tiger Demon Race was fierce; if Lu Shan didn’t feign his simple-mindedness, it was only a matter of time before Lu Kun had him killed and replaced.
But Lu Shan had no desire to be Lu Kun’s obedient pawn. He would play the fool to get out of tasks he didn’t want to do, and he would do the same for matters that piqued his interest. It was the only way to avoid arousing Lu Kun’s suspicion.
Furthermore, Lu Shan was utterly disgusted by Lu Kun’s decision to side with the Demon Race. To think that a member of the Demon Race would help the Demon Race—he was a traitor to his own kind! But Lu Shan was no match for Lu Kun, who was a genuine Divinity Transformation Stage expert. He wanted to borrow the strength of the Fox Demon Race, but under normal circumstances, any contact between his people and the foxes would immediately trigger Lu Kun’s suspicion. The Grand Elder’s influence within the Tiger Race was simply too vast.
Now, however, was his chance. Under the pretext of an investigation, he could contact the Fox Demon Race openly and justifiably. When it came to dealing with Lu Kun, he was sure the Fox Demon Race wouldn’t refuse.
Just as Lu Shan began scheming against the Divinity Transformation Stage Lu Kun, Chen Dong and Zisang Jin found themselves trapped within a great hall.
The hall was immensely dark and utterly silent. Chen Dong slowly regained consciousness. The vines that had bound him were gone, and the aftereffects of the Joyful Fragrance had finally passed, leaving him in a state of drained weakness. Without Yun Mengshang regularly applying her charming Divine Technique, Chen Dong had managed to recover a sliver of clarity.
In what felt like the blink of an eye, an entire month had passed since he’d fallen under Yun Mengshang’s control. Chen Dong’s last clear memory was of her marriage proposal in the small courtyard.
He scanned his surroundings, but everything looked unfamiliar. He seemed to be lying on a wide stone bed.
A throbbing headache and his threadbare Spiritual Power left Chen Dong feeling deeply unwell. It felt as if a long stretch of his memory was just… blank.
‘Where in the world am I?’
As Chen Dong frowned at the question, he sensed another person next to him.
Her skin was a mass of wrinkles, her hair was dry and white, and her body was clad in tattered, peach-colored scraps of cloth. Her life force was so faint it was nearly nonexistent, as if she were already dead.
Then, Chen Dong saw the Peach Blossom Divine Sword lying nearby, and his heart seized.
‘No way… It can’t be! Could this person be Zisang Jin?’
