The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?

Chapter 597: Back to Their Everyday Lives (I)

The next day, Primrose did not wake up until noon.

At first, she thought Edmund had already left their chamber to deal with his work. After all, as the King of Noctvaris, he always had something waiting for him.

However, when she slowly opened her eyes and turned her head, she realized that he was still lying right beside her.

“Good morning, my wife,” Edmund greeted her softly.

Primrose blinked sleepily at him before stretching her whole body under the blanket. Then, without saying anything else, she rolled toward Edmund and wrapped her arms around him.

“It’s not even morning anymore,” she murmured against his chest.

Edmund had cleaned her up while she was sleeping, but somehow, Primrose could still smell his familiar scent lingering on her body. It only made her want to stay in his arms a little longer.

Edmund happily returned her embrace. One hand slowly rubbed her back while the other gently patted her, almost as if he were trying to put her back to sleep.

“Then what kind of greeting do you want to hear?” Edmund asked with a teasing smile. “I love you, my wife?”

Primrose’s face immediately turned red. Of all the things he could have said, why did he have to choose those words?

Last night, Edmund had said them to her again and again until they were practically stuck in her head. Now, hearing them again right after waking up made her heart beat faster.

“I’m just waking up…” Primrose complained as she lightly hit his arm. “It’s too early for you to tease me like that.”

Edmund only chuckled at her reaction. He leaned down and pressed a long kiss against her temple before finally pushing himself up to sit on the bed.

Unfortunately for him, Primrose was still clinging to him. So when Edmund sat up, she naturally followed along. A moment later, she had somehow ended up sitting comfortably on his lap with her arms still wrapped around him.

“You must be hungry,” Edmund said, looking down at the woman refusing to let him go. “How about I ask the servants to bring our meal here?”

Instead of loosening her arms, Primrose hugged him even tighter. “That sounds nice.”

“Alright.” Edmund paused, and then he chuckled again. “But my wife, you have to let me go first so I can actually leave the room.”

Primrose let out an unhappy groan. She clearly did not want to move, but after another few seconds of stubbornly holding onto him, she finally released her arms.

“Do it quickly,” she said with a pout.

Seeing her expression, Edmund could not resist her at all. He leaned forward and stole another kiss from her lips before getting off the bed. “I’ll be back soon.”

After that, Edmund left their bedroom and asked the royal maids to prepare their meal.

However, even when the maids arrived with the food, Primrose still refused to leave the bed.

In the end, Edmund simply gave in to her laziness and asked the maids to place a small table on the bed so his wife could eat comfortably without having to move.

Primrose stared at the food in front of her before letting out a long sigh. “This is so bad… I left this kingdom for weeks, and now that I’m finally back, all I do is laze around in my room.”

She looked down at herself, still comfortably buried under the blankets.

At this rate, she really did not look like someone who had just returned to the kingdom. She looked more like someone who had decided she would never leave her bed again.

“The kingdom isn’t going anywhere,” Edmund said as he sat down beside her. He had even taken the time to cut her steak into small pieces so she could eat it more easily. “Take your time and rest for a while. You deserve it.”

Primrose let out another sigh, but this time, she did not argue with him.

Perhaps Edmund was right.

After everything that had happened, taking one day to do absolutely nothing did not sound so bad.

In the end, Primrose became so comfortable that she did not even bother lifting her hand to pick up her fork. She simply sat there and let Edmund feed her instead.

Edmund did not seem to mind either. He patiently brought one piece of steak after another to her lips, looking far too pleased with the chance to spoil his wife and just like that, Primrose spent the entire day resting.

She did not think about the kingdom or force herself to do anything useful. For once, she simply allowed both her mind and body to recover after everything she had been through.

Still, there was one thing she could not completely put aside. Before allowing herself to fully relax, Primrose made Edmund promise to tell her immediately if Leofric found anything about the fragment of God that was now inside the evil chest.

She could rest for now, but she had no intention of ignoring something that important.

Unfortunately, Leofric still had not found anything useful.

It was not because he had stopped looking. The problem was that there was only so much he could learn without opening the evil chest, and Leofric had no intention of taking such a dangerous risk when they still had no idea what might happen.

So, for the time being, all they could do was wait.

Days passed one after another, and before Primrose realized it, nearly two months had gone by.

By then, she had fully regained her strength and returned to her usual routine. The days of refusing to leave her bed were long gone, and she once again started taking care of matters around the kingdom.

One of the first things Primrose did was check on the food and warm clothes they had distributed before. Winter was still harsh, and she wanted to make sure the people had enough to survive the cold.

She also organized a charity among the nobles. The money they collected was used to repair the homes that had been damaged by the harsh winter, especially those that were no longer safe enough to protect the people from the cold.

Thankfully, things seemed to be slowly getting better and it was not only the kingdom that was recovering.

Every week, Primrose received a letter from Salem telling her about the children and how they were doing at the Duke’s manor.

Some of them were still shy and easily frightened, which was understandable after everything they had gone through.

However, little by little, they had started coming out of their shells. They were finally brave enough to talk to the servants and other people living in the manor instead of hiding whenever someone unfamiliar came near them.
