"Let me be honest with you, the truth is I came here with a purpose. I told your dad I want to marry you. Ever since I dreamt about you, I wanted to bring you home as my wife. But after discussing for days, your dad just won't agree and even warned me that if I ruin your feelings, I'd be in trouble. I thought, what if your feelings weren't real? Wouldn't I still have a chance? That's how I ended up betting with your dad. He said that as long as I can prove that you and that man aren't truly in love, I have the right to pursue you. Now that it's been proven, I should take you back to show your dad and fulfill my promise."

The more Tang Rao spoke, the more bizarre it sounded, and Chen Jingyi almost leaped off the table as she listened.

The first time she could excuse as ignorance when her family forcibly matched her with Gu Yi. But afterward, when she and Gu Yi hadn't even officially fallen out, Chen Jingtian had already picked out a second man as a backup for Chen Jingyi in reserve. Does this mean that whenever she doesn't fancy someone, her family would always find a way to prepare another until they have her settled in marriage and childbirth? Only then would her family finally quiet down.

"You and my dad can place your bets all you want, but I'll act as if I know nothing about it. It has nothing to do with me."

Chen Jingyi distanced herself neatly from the situation. She definitely didn't want to become a wager and a sacrifice between two men, one old and one young.

"Hey, you can't say it like that. The bet between me and your dad was established all because of you. I wanted to pursue you, but your dad wouldn't agree. If there was another way, who would be willing to do this, right?"

Pities, emotional appeals, rational persuasions – Tang Rao had considered all ways, using methods that worked well on women in the past. But surprisingly, every method he thought or had used, which should have had a 100% success rate, turned into zero once applied to Chen Jingyi.

"I've finished eating, thank you for the meal."

Chen Jingyi pushed her chair, gracefully stood up from her seat, her cherry lips moved alluringly, indescribably tempting.

Tang Rao was too preoccupied with gazing at Chen Jingyi's cherry lips and forgot that her standing meant she intended to leave.

She wasn't planning on chitchatting much with Tang Rao in the first place.

"Hey, where are you going? Really not planning to go to North Island with me? I can take you on a tour of Kao Shan Street, and I can even take you shopping for free, anything you like!"

Chen Jingyi didn't appear to be materialistic. So taking her shopping was just a ploy by Tang Rao – didn't apply to Chen Jingyi, yet Tang Rao was willing to try his luck.

If Chen Jingyi still disagrees, well, Tang Rao will consider himself unfortunate, and instead of returning to North Island, he'd stay on East Island and persistently pursue her until she's disgusted by his impending tender assault and has no choice but to agree, Tang Rao would consider that a great success.

"Really can shop freely on Kao Shan Street without spending any money?"

By the time Tang Rao had prepared his bedding, toothpaste, toothbrush, and was ready for a long-term stay, it seemed like there was breakthrough on Chen Jingyi's end.

Tang Rao almost thought there was something wrong with his hearing. He asked Chen Jingyi again, and it was still the same phrase: can she shop freely, without her spending money.

Women can be so changeable; Tang Rao realized that now.

"Yes, shop freely, without spending a dime, how about that?"

Consider the bustling state of Kao Shan Street. It's so crowded that entry and exit have to be regulated to prevent overcrowding, leading to unintentional injuries inside.

Given the high exposure in such a busy area, combined with the information transmission within Illusion City and inter-island communication, it wasn't surprising that Chen Jingyi knew and favored Kao Shan Street.

"Go."

Just one word.

One word was enough.

There was a time when just by standing in a crowd, countless young ladies would shout, "Tang Rao, I love you," and "Tang Rao, I want to marry you." How quickly times change. In a blink, Tang Rao personally confessed, passionately and wholeheartedly, only to find that she didn't care at all. If not lured by shopping, the person standing in front of Tang Rao wouldn't have been Chen Jingyi but rather the clerk waiting for money.

Tang Rao said he wanted to take Chen Jingyi away, and Chen Jingyi agreed, but before they left East Island, they still had to get past Gu Yi.

Gu Yi had already recovered, and even before Tang Rao noticed, he had sent messages through Illusion City calling for reinforcements. He was still lying on the ground as the reinforcements waited outside the door.

"Hurry up and get me up! What are you gawking at? Do you want to die?"

Gu Yi ached all over, from top to bottom, almost to the point of being unable to take care of himself. But outside, people stood by, as if to watch the show, with no intention of coming in.

"Boss, you told us to act on orders, and you haven't given us any!"

The leader felt a little aggrieved. He was speaking the truth, yet acting on orders also required some initiative. With Gu Yi on the ground and no one taking the initiative, what were they waiting for?

"Idiots, a bunch of idiots, get lost, all of you!"

Gu Yi was so angry it hurt. If not for needing them to deal with Tang Rao, if they weren't the only ones who could arrive in time when needed, Gu Yi wouldn't have summoned this bunch of fools to embarrass himself.

"See, that kid in the yellow clothing, get him, beat him till I can't recognize him anymore."

Now was not the time to vent anger. After venting with a couple of curses, Gu Yi still needed them to complete their task.

"Yes, boss."

As henchmen, whenever Gu Yi called them, it was usually to bully the weak, as the adversaries were not very strong. Apart from enjoying the pleasure of bullying, it also brought them fame and face. They thought this time would be the same, until the first one to make a move was knocked down beside Gu Yi, did they realize they'd hit a hard wall. This bone was not as easy to chew as they had imagined.

"Ouch."

"Oof."

"You!"

Every individual who went up solo got beaten in all sorts of ways by Tang Rao and then was tossed back out of the group.

"Are these the people you found? The quality is mediocre, not very resilient."

Gu Yi didn't learn well from others how to conduct a group fight, so Tang Rao took it upon himself, took action, and saw it as education from his dad to Gu Yi.
