The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 1071 - The Jade Dragon Emperor Reunites with Kin
Han Wu summoned his newly promoted Yinglong King and rode it toward his teammate’s location at top speed.
He had barely covered forty kilometers when a Great Dragon contestant entered his scouting range. It was a Subcosm Hawkbeak Swift Dragon King, several times faster than Han Wu, and it reached his teammate at blistering speed.
Han Wu watched helplessly as the Hawkbeak Swift Dragon King killed the Ancient Dragon Clan contestant along with all of his core race’s Microcosm Great Dragons. The contestant had released over 1,000 units, but none of them could resist the Hawkbeak Swift Dragon King’s pure Dragon Fear. Its mere aura killed them all, after which they became its food.
Once Han Wu realized that he couldn’t save his teammate, he immediately abandoned his approach and concealed himself on the spot. The last thing he needed was for the Hawkbeak Swift Dragon King to notice him.
The Hawkbeak Swift Dragon King did detect the Pterlings, but after sensing their auras, it ignored them entirely. Mixed-blood dragons with such a diluted bloodline probably weren’t the core race of any serious contestant. The Pterlings’ weakness had saved Han Wu’s life.
After the Hawkbeak Swift Dragon King departed, Han Wu exhaled heavily. Its display of power had been terrifying, especially its speed. That level of performance would make it stand out even at the Mesocosm rank.
If the remaining four Great Dragon contestants were as strong as that one, this championship would be brutal. Nonetheless, his priority remained finding his other teammates. Once they grouped up, their situation would be far more manageable.
Outside the arena, the Ancient Dragon Clan and the Jade Dragon Emperor watched the match unfold.
When its own contestant drew first blood, the Jade Dragon Emperor laughed even more heartily. The Ancient Dragon Clan’s treasures meant nothing to it or the Great Dragons. What mattered was the opportunity to gloat over the victory in front of Long Qi. For powerhouses of their caliber, even the smallest edge in a contest between equals could be immensely satisfying.
Long Qi’s expression was considerably darker. After observing both sides’ performances, he had already assessed the gap between them. The Great Dragon race had five Subcosm Dragon Kings. At full power, each could hold its own against a Mesocosm fighter.
His own side was a different story. They were a ragtag handful at best. Han Wu was the strongest, but the restrictions had crippled him. The only contestant who could realistically fight a Great Dragon opponent was Long Lin, but even he could handle only one at a time. If two attacked him at once, he would lose. The remaining two contestants were even less promising. The strongest units of their core races hadn’t even attained Dragon King status.
Even so, Long Qi was somewhat surprised to see his great-grandson among the five contestants. He knew exactly what level the boy was at. There had to be a reason Long Xiang had made the cut.
The Tyrannosaurus Rex’s peculiar evolution gave Long Qi a faint glimmer of hope. It’s a shame that the beast didn’t gain the ability to fly after becoming a Great Dragon. Nevertheless, those jaws can inflict some serious damage, even to a Mesocosm Dragon King.
While the two powerhouses were lost in thought, a flock of Great Dragons came flying back. They were Han Wu’s dragons, returning from their outing.
The Jade Dragon Emperor sensed the approaching dragons and paid them no mind at first. Then it caught a trace of something familiar. It shot to its feet and swept its full Dragon Fear across the flock. Its awareness locked onto Silver Dragon King Erebard.
The Jade Dragon Emperor leapt into the air and flew toward Erebard. “Silver! Is that you?”
Erebard spotted the Jade Dragon Emperor too. He recognized the scent of his childhood companion and cried out, “Little Green!”
“Silver!” The Jade Dragon Emperor called back, its voice thick with emotion.
The two dragons embraced in midair and celebrated their reunion.
Amid their joy, the Jade Dragon Emperor suddenly realized something. “Silver, weren’t you supposed to be dead?”
Erebard let out a sigh. “That’s a long story.”
“Then tell me everything. I’ve got all the time in the world.” The Jade Dragon Emperor invited Erebard to its viewing seat for a proper conversation.
Erebard introduced his daughter, the Ice Great Dragon Leng Ning. Though Leng Ning’s soul technically came from Reincarnation, the pregnancy and birth had been completely legitimate. She carried Erebard’s bloodline. It wasn’t pure, but she still qualified as a Great Dragon.
The Jade Dragon Emperor immediately pulled premium treasures from its Microcosm and started showering its newfound niece with gifts.
The Black Dragon King Alpheus watched from the side, green with envy. He tried to claim kinship too. He had no blood relation to the Jade Dragon Emperor, but he had heard tales of its exploits back when he was still part of the Great Dragons. The Jade Dragon Emperor simply didn’t know Alpheus.
Alpheus laid on the flattery thick. “Um, Dragon Emperor, sir, I’m your biggest fan. I’ve heard all about your legendary deeds.”
The Jade Dragon Emperor was too busy reconnecting with its resurrected best friend to care. It gave Alpheus a curt reply and nothing more. As a Dragon Emperor, it had heard plenty of dragons praise its heroism and had long since grown accustomed to such flattery.
Seeing that, Alpheus quickly added, “I used to be a Defier of the Great Dragons!”
That got the Jade Dragon Emperor’s attention. The Defier title carried serious weight among the Great Dragon race. Even a Dragon Emperor had to show some respect. It probed Alpheus with its senses but found no trace of the Defier title’s aura.
“You little brat. I’m in a good mood today, so I’ll forgive you for lying to my face. Now scram!” A single roar sent Alpheus tumbling several thousand meters away.
Every dragon present was stunned. Alpheus ranked second in strength among Han Wu’s Great Dragons, behind only Erebard, who had just ascended, becoming the Chaos God King. Yet against the Jade Dragon Emperor, Alpheus might as well have been made of paper. The gap between Dragon King and Dragon Emperor was clear as day.
With Alpheus dismissed, the Jade Dragon Emperor dragged Erebard and its niece away to continue catching up.
Alpheus flew back in humiliation. The Jade Dragon Emperor hadn’t even given him a chance to explain. The snickers from the other Great Dragons didn’t help. Alpheus looked around for someone to take his frustration out on, but nobody was an easy target. Finally, his gaze landed on Wicked Dragon Veritas.
“You’re breathing too loud. You’re bothering me. Scram!” One roar sent Veritas tumbling several thousand meters into the distance.
Veritas’ indignant wail trailed through the wind. “What the fuuuuuuuc...”
