Chapter 102: Chapter 102: That History Cannot Be Put Down

Kyle looked at her. A flash of stunning amazement crossed his eyes, quickly settling into pure appreciation. He smiled and reached out a hand. "Rian, you are very beautiful."

Rian smiled and shook her head. Kyle then pulled a notebook-like object from his backpack and handed it to her. "Rian, this is something my pawnshop received a while ago. I believe it should be returned to its rightful owner."

Rian looked at the item in his hand, took it, and flipped through the pages. Then, with a heavy heart, she closed the notebook.

Together with the previous two, these three notebooks completely exposed all the atrocities committed by the invading forces in Nanjing.

Rian looked at Kyle, her eyes brimming with gratitude. "Kyle, thank you for your selfless gift. These items are incredibly important to my country."

Kyle didn’t say much. He knew of that period in Veridia’s history; when he first received the notebook, he had faced threats and interference from outsiders.

That was why he had taken two of the notebooks to sell and auction in The Undercity. He had been waiting for the right person to come along, while also drawing away some of the heat.

Fortunately, he had found her.

Rian looked at him and asked with sincere gratitude, "Kyle, would you be willing to return to my country with me and hand these historical artifacts over to the state?"

Kyle smiled. "Rian, since I followed your subordinate here, I had already planned to go to your country with you. Originally, I was going to hand these over to the Veridian Embassy in Meridia.

"But after running into a few accidents, the plan kept getting delayed. Eventually, I sent one to The Undercity’s auction house, sold another in The Undercity myself, and the last one is now in your hands."

Rian handed the notebook to Quentin. She turned slightly and made an inviting gesture. "After you, Kyle."

Kyle chuckled and waved his hand. "Rian, we’re friends. There’s no need for such formalities. If you do this again, I’ll think you don’t treat me as a friend at all."

"Having you as a friend is my good fortune," she replied.

They continued to chat casually, and the three notebooks were safely brought aboard the plane.

On the flight, Kyle eagerly engaged Rian in discussions about Veridian culture, and she was more than happy to share her homeland’s heritage. They talked for a long time, hitting it off so well that they felt like old friends who had met too late.

The flight lasted around eleven hours. After chatting for a while, Rian noticed the fatigue on Kyle’s face and urged him to go to his cabin to rest.

Kyoro International Airport.

They landed in the early hours of the morning. Rian took a deep breath of the Veridian air; sure enough, it smelled much better than the air in Meridia.

However, she didn’t want to disturb the elders at this ungodly hour. She had Quentin book a hotel in Kyoro, and they settled in for the night.

The next day.

After Rian finished washing up, she heard the familiar chime of the system. She couldn’t help but ask, "With this kind of check-in mechanic, having me run back and forth between Meridia and Veridia, aren’t you going to take a huge loss?"

[Don’t worry about that, Host. Just check in when you hear the broadcast.]

Hearing this, Rian said no more. If the system was so eager to give away freebies, she wouldn’t stop it. "Check in."

[Ding! Check-in successful! Congratulations to the Host for acquiring Villa No. 7 at Imperial View Bay in Kyoro, as well as a Lamborghini Concept S.]

[The vehicle has been delivered to the underground garage of Villa No. 7 at Imperial View Bay. All villa procedures have been completed, and the property deed has been placed inside Villa No. 1 at Red Maple Lake.]

Rian was quite surprised. After all, both rewards were incredibly valuable. Imperial View Bay in Kyoro was a place where only high-ranking figures in politics and business could reside.

The Lamborghini Concept S was also a top-tier sports car worth hundreds of millions. She was extremely satisfied with these two check-in rewards.

After freshening up, the group had breakfast together and prepared to head out.

They got into the car arranged by the Kyoro Museum and hit the road. The representative sent by the museum was an elderly man. He was quite talkative and kept chatting with her non-stop.

After talking for a long while, Rian delicately brought Kyle into the conversation without hurting the older man’s feelings. It didn’t take long for her to successfully extricate herself.

With that, the car was filled with the lively conversation between an old man and a young foreigner. Rian watched them for a while. The two gave her the impression that they had known each other for a long time, like old friends despite the age gap.

What truly shocked her, however, was the language they used to communicate. The elderly man spoke English, while Kyle confidently replied in his broken, heavily accented Veridian.

They chatted back and forth in this bizarre manner. Looking at the old man’s expression, Rian wondered if he actually understood what Kyle was saying.

She listened closely for a moment, her brain quickly overwhelmed by Kyle’s butchered Veridian. She reasonably suspected that the old man hadn’t understood a single word.

Accompanied by Kyle’s incredibly confident Veridian along the way, they finally arrived at the Kyoro Museum.

Special personnel were waiting at the entrance to receive them. The group was led to a room, where the guide opened the double doors and invited them inside.

Rian paused for a moment, gesturing for the elderly man to enter first. The old man looked slightly surprised before his gaze softened with affection. He smiled and said, "Thank you, young lady. Elder Collins will be here momentarily."

Rian smiled and nodded. Only then did she and Kyle enter the room together.

Kyle was quite confused. "Rian, why couldn’t we go in together?"

Hearing this, she explained Veridian etiquette to him. "There’s an old Veridian saying: whether eating, drinking, walking, or sitting, elders go first, and the young follow."

This wasn’t hard to understand. Kyle’s face lit up in realization, and he gave Rian a thumbs-up. "Rian, so there’s such a custom in Veridia. It truly lives up to its name as a nation of etiquette! It has the demeanor of a great power!"

The two spoke in hushed tones, keeping their volume down, but they were still overheard. A hearty laugh suddenly rang out. "Hahahahaha, wonderful, wonderful! You young people are truly formidable!"

Hearing the majestic yet benevolent voice, Rian looked toward the newcomer. An elderly man dressed in a traditional Tang suit approached, accompanied by a middle-aged man who was presumably his assistant.

"You must be Rian, the Young Miss Sinclair that Old Yang mentioned. If all kids today had your level of awareness, the folks over at the Daily News wouldn’t be so exhausted every day."

Rian smiled and shook her head. She bowed slightly to the elderly man in front of her, her words filled with deep respect. "Mr. Collins Sr., you flatter me."

Elder Collins chuckled and waved his hand. "I’m just someone who loves telling the honest truth all day long. Young Miss Sinclair, Mr. Kyle, don’t just stand there. Come and sit down."

Rian nodded. She waited for Elder Collins to lead the way before following behind.

Kyle copied her movements, following suit. Only after Mr. Collins Sr. had taken his seat did the two of them sit down.

Seeing this, Rian got straight to the point. Quentin handed the items over to her, and she immediately pushed them across the table toward Elder Collins.

Elder Collins hadn’t received the exact details beforehand, but he had mentally prepared himself to some extent.

However, the moment his fingers flipped to the very first page, he couldn’t bear to read any further.

His body trembled uncontrollably.

Page after page of colored photographs showed men holding guns with hideous grins on their faces, slaughtering with reckless abandon.

His hands shook so violently that he could barely hold onto the notebook. But could he put it down?

He couldn’t. He couldn’t put it down, just as that period of history could never be laid to rest.
