Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Love Brains Are Common, but a Friend Brain Is a First
[The person upstairs is just suddenly unleashing their true nature, no need to make a fuss.]
[My grandfather cried after seeing the live stream. He lived through that era. Thank you, Miss Innocent!]
[I’ve got goosebumps all over.]
[Miss Innocent, you should just make your debut! The entertainment industry can’t survive without you!]
[To the person upstairs, let’s be honest, the entertainment industry is already doomed.]
[My Miss Innocent could make her center-stage debut just based on this image!]
[My dad twisted my ear and asked me why others at this age are bombing the shrine, making fortunes, and serving the country, while all I do when I’m hungry is yell for my mom.]
[Why don’t you yell for your dad?]
[To the person upstairs, you clearly don’t understand. This just goes to show how low his dad’s status is in the family. (Funny.jpg)]
Although the live broadcast had ended abruptly, many netizens continued to chat in the blacked-out stream room. Their conversations revolved endlessly around Miss Innocent and her stunning looks.
Rian Sinclair noticed Quentin Sinclair’s gaze and gave a silent nod. Watching Phoenix chat with increasing enthusiasm, she felt a momentary headache. After all, she found making small talk genuinely exhausting. Phoenix looked as though he wanted to grab her hands and dance around while continuing the conversation.
Rian silently took a step back. "Smith, I have some urgent matters on my end that need immediate attention."
Seeing the solemn expression on her face, Phoenix was instantly bluffed. He genuinely liked Rian as a friend. Sometimes, it only took a single glance to recognize a true friend. Because of this, Phoenix would never use his battlefield tactics on her. He believed Rian’s words completely.
His face filled with tension. "Rian, is the situation tricky? Do you need my help? I can bring my men over right now!"
Rian stared at Phoenix, who had gone from having a calculating gaze earlier to looking completely foolish now. She was dumbfounded for a moment. She wondered if this guy was really that simple-minded. She had heard of being a fool for love, but this was her first time seeing someone be a fool for friendship.
But since Phoenix had thrown down a lifeline, Rian naturally had to climb it. She frowned and replied, "That won’t be necessary, Smith. I can handle this small matter myself. It’s just that it’s over in Veridia, and time is a bit tight."
Upon hearing this, Phoenix immediately ushered her toward a helicopter. "Rian, I’ll lend you this chopper for now. Go take care of your business, and we’ll chat next time."
Phoenix then ordered his pilot to take her straight to the airport. There was no need to ask why they weren’t flying directly to Kyoro; he wouldn’t dare bring his people into Veridia’s borders. Even though he feared nothing in heaven or earth, he was genuinely a bit intimidated by Veridia.
Just like that, Rian was bundled off to the airport and escorted into a first-class cabin by Phoenix’s arranged personnel. The entire operation was so seamless that she didn’t know what to say for a moment. She thought about how if she had told the truth back then, he probably would have felt as if he had treated her as a true friend, only for her to stab him in the back.
Rian pondered for a moment. Since she had the chance to go home, she might as well take it. She could always come back later if something else came up. Ultimately, the only person who left with her was Quentin Sinclair. The rest of the bodyguards bought their own tickets back, though their flights would be reimbursed.
Smith watched Rian leave, a look of longing in his eyes. "Sigh! Rian is really my type! It would be even better if I could date her!"
However, there was no romantic love in Smith’s eyes—only the trust and admiration of a friend. His words simply stemmed from a man’s appreciation of an outstanding beauty.
But the tardy Scott Sutton didn’t see it that way. Striding toward Phoenix with his long legs, he clamped a hand around Phoenix’s neck. "What did you just say?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Phoenix immediately sensed trouble. The more displeased this profiteer was, the better his temper seemed on the surface. Looking at Scott’s smiling face, Phoenix truly had no idea how he had offended this tyrant again.
"Mr. Sutton, what are you talking about? I don’t understand."
Scott’s eyes were full of amusement, but the words that left his mouth were icy cold. "It’s fine if you don’t understand. I’ll repeat myself. Munitions have been a bit difficult to get lately, so the prices have gone up by ten percent."
Hearing Scott’s words, Phoenix nearly dropped to his knees. For mercenaries, weapons were their top priority. Having a good weapon on the battlefield made it much easier to stay alive. Knowing a black-market arms dealer like Scott was a double-edged sword. In his younger and more ignorant days, Phoenix had been fleeced by him for every penny. Even after gaining some experience, he still ended up being scammed by the arms dealer until he barely had the shirt on his back.
When it came to Scott, the first word that came to Phoenix’s mind was "profiteer!" After all, the goods he previously bought from him were outrageously expensive. However, despite the steep prices, the quality was always top-notch, so Phoenix was quite willing to buy from him.
But this sudden price hike? He wondered if Mr. Sutton even knew what he was doing. He was the boss, and Phoenix was his subordinate! Mercenaries had extremely high mortality rates!
Putting on a flattering expression, Phoenix looked at Scott and chuckled. "Mr. Sutton, who made you unhappy today? Let’s go take your anger out on whoever offended you, but please don’t take it out on an innocent guy like me!"
As he spoke, Phoenix poured a cup of tea and handed it to Scott. After all, Scott’s deliveries were fast and high-quality. His goods were essential divine weapons for mercenaries looking to kill and loot! Phoenix outright refused to go look for a new supplier. Transitioning would mean getting scammed a few more times first, and there would be no concrete guarantees regarding quality or delivery times. Besides, they were good brothers. How could any other arms dealer compare to Mr. Sutton?
Scott took the tea from Phoenix. Hearing the mercenary’s words, he suddenly paused. "Didn’t you say to find the person who made me unhappy? Haven’t I just come to him?"
Upon hearing this, Phoenix panicked. Someone on his team had actually managed to upset Mr. Sutton? That was simply too cool. But he didn’t dare say that out loud.
The moment Scott raised his gaze, Phoenix instantly wiped the smile off his face, humming a little tune as he glanced aimlessly from left to right. With Rian’s departure, her people had also left quickly, leaving only Phoenix’s own team members behind.
Hearing Scott’s words, Phoenix turned around to face his teammates and spoke in a cold voice. "Who upset Mr. Sutton? Step forward right now!"
Not a single person in the crowd stepped forward. Phoenix called out a few more times, but his men remained entirely unfazed. Phoenix knew his own people well. Given this reaction, it was certain that none of them had offended Scott. Phoenix turned back with a smile. "Mr. Sutton, do you think there’s been a mistake? I don’t think there’s anyone here who has offended you."
Scott took a sip of his tea, then set the cup down on a nearby table. He looked at Phoenix. "There’s no mistake."
Hearing Scott’s renewed confirmation, Phoenix began to lose his confidence. He doubted everyone present, except for himself. He still had no idea who it could possibly be!
Phoenix was furious! He wondered if Mr. Sutton was just here to mess with them. However, Phoenix could only roar internally, not daring to show a hint of displeasure on his face. After all, who was Scott Sutton? He controlled a third of Blue Star’s munitions resources. If Mr. Sutton gave the order, who would dare sell him weapons?
Seeing that he had questioned everyone and Scott still hadn’t nodded in confirmation, Phoenix simply threw his hands up in defeat. "Mr. Sutton, the person you’re talking about couldn’t possibly be me, right?"
