Chapter 202: Chapter 201: High Salary? I’m Afraid It’s Sakura Coin
"What does my appearance have to do with you?"
Rian Sinclair crossed her arms and stared at the woman in front of her. Her answers had absolutely nothing to do with the questions being asked. Was this person out of her mind?
The female streamer had probably never been shut down like this before. The smile on her face abruptly froze, twisting her features slightly.
Rian noticed the thick layers of foundation creasing on the woman’s face, a clear sign of just how furious the streamer was.
"I was just giving you some friendly advice. Is there a need to speak like that? Is this your upbringing as a Veridian?"
"Having someone like you in Veridia is Veridia’s misfortune."
As soon as the streamer said that, the viewers in the chat who knew of Miss Innocent instantly erupted in anger.
[I’ll admit I found your streams interesting before because they felt realistic, but saying Veridia is unfortunate to have Miss Innocent? I can’t agree with that. How is doing good deeds for the country and its people unfortunate?]
[Even Miss Innocent’s company genuinely cares for every employee and gives them the best benefits. How is that unfortunate?]
However, their comments were quickly buried by the flood of other messages.
Rian slipped her phone into her pocket and looked at the woman. "Where are you right now?"
The streamer was baffled, but mindful of the ongoing broadcast, she replied, "In Veridia, obviously."
"And what is your profession?" Rian asked, her expression cold as she stared her down.
"I’m a streamer."
Hearing the woman’s response, Rian chuckled. "Anyone listening would think you were a local official. Since when does being a streamer qualify you to critique national affairs? Can you make decisions on behalf of the country?"
Rian’s words successfully silenced the streamer. But if she stayed quiet now, she would lose her persona as a sharp-tongued commentator, which would likely cause a drop in her followers.
"Miss, you don’t have to be so sensitive—"
Before she could finish, Rian cut in, "Sorry, I have sensitive skin."
The streamer choked on her words but tried her best to maintain her composure. Looking at the girl in front of her, she forced a smile. "I’m sorry, miss. I’m just a street interview vlogger. I’m used to filming people on the go, so I hope you don’t mind."
Listening to the streamer, Rian really wondered what kind of trick this woman had up her sleeve.
The streamer continued, "Miss, the main pursuit of our street interviews is authenticity. That ringtone you set earlier was very interesting, so I have to ask: what would you do if you had ten million?"
The streamer had clearly been around the block, seamlessly smoothing over the awkwardness without missing a beat. Normally, no one would refuse such a tactful question, but this was the first time Rian had seen someone so eager to invite a slap to the face.
"Only ten million?"
A vicious glint flashed through the streamer’s eyes. Usually, people who said things like that were incompetent, spoiled rich kids.
She quickly followed up, "Oh? By that, do you mean you consider ten million to be pocket change? What kind of work do you do, miss?"
The knowledgeable fans in the chat were speechless, but not everyone knew who Rian Sinclair was. Because of her remark, waves of malicious comments began flooding the screen.
[Ten million is pocket change? I wouldn’t argue if you were selling your body to make it.]
[Is she just another rich kid living off her family? I seriously despise rich second generations now.]
[What kind of work? Don’t tell me she’s a club hostess. She’s certainly pretty enough for it.]
[Ten million? Pocket change? Where do you get the nerve to say that, sweetheart?]
Listening to the streamer’s eager questioning, Rian smiled. "Don’t twist my words. Ten million is a small sum from a national perspective, but it’s a massive amount for an individual.
"A country can’t feed its people with ten million, but an individual with ten million could eat until they burst."
The smile on the streamer’s face nearly froze again. Since Rian hadn’t answered directly, the streamer pressed on. "But you didn’t seem to directly answer our question. Many of the people we interviewed earlier mentioned their monthly salaries, and for the vast majority, their income isn’t nearly enough to cover their expenses. However, overseas salaries—like in Sakuran—are more than enough to support a family on a monthly basis. What do you think causes this disparity in wages between domestic and foreign countries? And what is your current job, miss? Do you work for a top-tier foreign enterprise?"
The streamer layered her traps one after another. To an outsider, she sounded quite reasonable, but to anyone in the know, her nested narrative was incredibly insidious.
"High salaries? Sakuran?"
The streamer curled her lips into a slight smirk. "Yes, monthly salaries in Sakuran are in the tens of thousands. Could you share your thoughts on the reasons for this disparity between our country and theirs?"
"Tens of thousands? Are you talking about Sakura Coins?"
The viewers in the chat were momentarily stunned before it clicked. Right! Tens of thousands of Sakura Coins were only worth a few thousand Dragon Coins.
So what were they even envious of?
The streamer’s expression stiffened, but she pushed forward. "However, many current positions in Veridia don’t match the individuals’ actual experience. Many people only get those roles through connections. Would you be willing to share your thoughts on that?"
"No," Rian rejected her outright. Why should she speak just because this woman asked? Did she have to entertain this nonsense?
The woman was absolutely furious with Rian now. She truly couldn’t understand why a woman so impervious to reason existed in this world. Did every random person they stopped on the street have to be this difficult to deal with?
"Stop fixating on our domestic issues," Rian said. "Foreign nations are no different. Besides, could you guarantee your safety if you went abroad? Firearms are legal there."
Rian honestly didn’t have the energy to retort further. Were foreign countries really that great? Did these people not read the news about the mass shootings in Ursia? Since guns were legal overseas, getting randomly gunned down on the street was a real possibility. With countless drug cartels operating abroad, where exactly was the safety? No country could compare to Veridia. Yet, there were still so many within its borders who actively tried to smear it, completely disgracing their identity as Veridians.
But how could the streamer accept any of this? People like her, who glorified foreign nations, naturally believed that Veridia was inferior in every conceivable way.
"But over the past century, Veridia transformed from a country that anyone could bully into what it is today—isn’t that all because we received foreign aid?!"
The streamer’s remarks left a bad taste in the mouths of the viewers, though there were still some in the chat who staunchly supported her and agreed with her points.
These people were the parasites of society. When their lives went poorly because they refused to work hard, they blamed the country or the government. They never reflected on their own shortcomings, choosing instead to blindly curse everyone and everything else. They would never look for the cause within themselves. They would always point fingers, demanding to know why the promised prosperity hadn’t arrived, arguing that the government should just hand out money directly!
Rian’s eyes were icy, her gaze filled with utter impatience as she looked at the streamer. This was the first time she truly realized just how vile and disgusting people could be—living a good life here, yet still yearning to be a lapdog for other countries.
People like this were an absolute disgrace to Veridia.
Veridia treated its people with kindness and protected every citizen, yet it had somehow raised a pack of ungrateful wretches. Rian honestly felt sorry for her country.
