Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Want to Feel Your Head Explode?

Scott Sutton’s eyes were brimming with a smile as he looked down at Alarin, but the amusement in his gaze was unfathomably dark. "Do you want to experience the taste of your head exploding and your body being shot full of holes like a hornet’s nest?"

Alarin trembled slightly. He dared not look up, let alone speak. Sensing his boss’s shifting mood, all the color instantly drained from his face. A second later, a tremendous force slammed into his stomach, kicking him to the ground.

Scott sat on the sofa with his legs parted, looking indifferently at Alarin sprawled on the floor. He toyed with a wine glass filled to the brim with red wine. The corners of his lips curled up slightly before he hurled the glass directly at Alarin’s face.

"Get out of here and properly learn some manners."

The man’s chilling voice rang in his ears. Alarin didn’t dare utter a single word. Deathly pale and with his face covered in wine, he didn’t even dare to wipe it off.

Shortly after Scott spoke, someone came in and dragged Alarin away. Alarin had forgotten that his boss absolutely loathed it when others made decisions on his behalf. He had assumed his boss was in a good mood today, never expecting that his presumption would only accelerate his own demise.

With Alarin gone, his position by Scott’s side was naturally filled by the next in command. Alar fetched a fresh glass, took out a bottle of his boss’s favorite red wine from the cabinet, and poured him a new drink.

While a subordinate rushed forward to quickly mop up the spilled wine on the floor, Alar handed over the glass. "Your wine, Mr. Sutton."

Scott took the glass and swirled it gently, the crimson liquid glittering under the lights.

"Red truly is the most exquisite color in the world."

Alar stood by with his head bowed, unsure whether his boss was referring to the wine in his glass or the breathtakingly beautiful Rian in her flowing red dress.

Meanwhile, Rian and her entourage had been escorted out the main entrance by Alarin. The area they emerged from looked like the interior of a standard corporate building.

Rian had watched the elevator numbers count down floor by floor. They had originally been on the twenty-first floor before stepping out. She thought back to the small door they had initially entered. No wonder they had walked for so long. It had felt like ascending straight up into the clouds—a gradual climb from the ground floor all the way up to the twenty-first. Rian turned to look at the towering skyscraper behind her. They could have simply taken the main entrance from the start, but instead, they were led on a massive detour.

Having successfully seen the guests off, Alarin had been about to leave when he caught sight of the woman glancing back. Sunlight kissed her face, and her red dress fluttered gently in the breeze. She looked incredibly, almost impossibly, beautiful. Pulling his gaze away, Alarin turned and stepped into the elevator.

Outside the building, the group waited for their car. The wait wasn’t long, but just as Rian rested her hand on the car door handle, she paused. As if sensing something, she looked back and up toward the building. Through the glaring haze, she thought she could faintly make out a silhouette. Rian’s sixth sense told her it was Scott Sutton.

The gentle breeze lifted the hem of her skirt. The diamond-studded, off-white high heels on her feet sparkled, and her flawless, jade-like calves seemed to glow in the sunlight. Since she was only wearing a slip dress, Quentin worried the scorching sun would burn her fair skin. He took off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.

Quentin stood closely by her side, holding up a parasol. As their arms brushed against each other, Scott watched from high above, his gaze turning dark and heavy.

Because of the vast distance, Rian couldn’t see anything clearly. The sun was blinding, and the harsh glare reflecting off the glass windows made her eyes sting. She didn’t linger on the sight. Lowering her gaze, she turned back, and Quentin opened the door for her to slip into the car.

Rian relaxed against the seat. Her eyes were still uncomfortable from the sun’s glare, bringing on a wave of dizziness. As the vehicle started moving, the motion made her head spin and churned her stomach with a bout of nausea.

Sitting beside her, Quentin pulled a freshly made cup of honey citron tea from the car’s mini-fridge and handed it over. "Have some of this, Miss. It’ll make you feel better."

Rian took a sip of the honey citron tea, and the discomfort in her stomach gradually faded. As the car cruised down the road, her thoughts drifted back to Scott. She genuinely wanted to avoid having too much contact with him. Scott’s face was breathtakingly handsome, yet the man was inherently dangerous—dangerous and shrouded in mystery. Furthermore, he was hiding far too many secrets.

She had no desire to be his friend, nor did she want to make an enemy out of him. Looking down at her tea, Rian realized she had no idea what kind of person Scott truly was. Setting the cup down, she leaned back against the seat and closed her eyes, tossing all thoughts of the man out of her mind. After all, their current relationship was nothing more than a simple business transaction.

Back at the manor.

Having received word of their arrival, Venus was already waiting by the entrance. Venus took the bag Rian had been carrying and the suit jacket draped over her shoulders. Rian took off her sunglasses, handed them to John, and stepped into the sprawling mansion with Venus following respectfully behind.

By the time Venus had put away the belongings, Rian was already seated on the sofa. Venus fetched a pair of flat slippers, approached Rian, and knelt on one knee to slip off her high heels, replacing them with the comfortable footwear.

Rian relaxed her body, quite accustomed to this routine. Ethan used to do the exact same thing for her. She often forgot to change her shoes when she got home, but Ethan would always notice and personally come over to swap her heels for slippers.

While she enjoyed Venus’s attentive service, Quentin sat nearby, his fingers flying rapidly across his laptop keyboard. A moment later, he spoke up. "Miss, Donovan originally acquired a few companies here in Meridia, along with some hotels and entertainment venues."

Rian shifted into a more comfortable reclining position. Seeing this, Venus immediately began massaging her legs. After all, Venus was being paid an exorbitant salary; doing nothing would make her feel guilty for taking so much money.

Rian didn’t reply right away, simply enjoying Venus’s massage. After a long while, she finally said, "Just handle the arrangements for our business operations here in Meridia as you see fit. But keep a low profile and be careful with your moves."

Quentin nodded. Rian didn’t elaborate further. They were newcomers to Meridia, so they had to tread carefully in certain areas. This country wasn’t like the peaceful and stable Veridia. Here, the slightest conflict could escalate into explosive violence in the blink of an eye.

Understanding her underlying warning, Quentin silently continued processing their workload. Rian closed her eyes, fully succumbing to Venus’s soothing massage as a wave of drowsiness washed over her.

Some time later.

When she woke up, Quentin was still working beside her, his posture identical to when she had drifted off. Noticing she was awake, Venus stepped forward, set down a cup of her favorite coffee, and quietly stood to the side.

Rian sat up and took a sip of the black coffee Venus had prepared. The rich bitterness lingered on her tongue.

"Ma’am, it is now six-forty in the evening. Would you like to have dinner?" Venus’s voice sounded softly beside her.

Rian set down the coffee and looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the fading dusk before giving a slight nod. She walked over to the dining room and took her seat while Venus served her dinner.

Lacking much of an appetite, Rian finished eating rather quickly. After supper, she left the dining room. Outside, the trees swayed gently in the wind. Rian walked silently to the floor-to-ceiling windows and gazed out at the scenery.

Her surroundings were incredibly quiet. It was impossible to find the brilliant, bustling city lights and roaring crowds she was used to back home. Instead, there was only a deathly silence, completely devoid of life.

Rian leaned against the glass, her eyes tracing the cold shadows of the evening. Venus approached her and asked, "Is there something on your mind, Ma’am?"
