The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 735: Life in Coronavirus Era (I)
Well, as Higo and the girls expected, the training session the next day was cancelled as panic started to spread among the players. Not just the training session, but the whole Bundesliga schedule was delayed as everyone was still waiting to see what would happen.
As for the situation inside the team, everyone was on edge already, especially when the coach himself personally gave a stern warning to everyone else.
"Don’t go out when it is unnecessary, and if you have to, always use your mask! Regarding your training, do everything that could be done in your home first; we will think about it later. For now, just stay at your fucking home, sit tightly, and don’t just stroll around like a fucking idiot, do you understand?!"
At least, that was what Frohling said when he made a group call with the others. Higo didn’t know what the others would do since some still didn’t believe that this virus was as dangerous as the news told them to be, but the boy didn’t want to take a risk right now.
Fortunately, when he was in the training session yesterday, neither Kumiko nor Sakura stayed idle. They stocked so much food and drink from the local supermarket that they didn’t even need to go out for that anymore. At least, their daily necessities were protected at this point, so one problem could be considered solved temporarily.
Fortunately, they also didn’t foresee this situation where they had to be trapped inside the house if they didn’t have a mask, so those three Japanese pre-adult people just stared at each other helplessly before deciding that going out to get masks was not worth the danger.
"It is not just about going out, but I read on social media that the local pharmacies around here have been surrounded by panicked people who want to buy the same. Some have already lost all of their stock and have to face angry customers, and queueing for masks in this situation just increases the chance of getting in contact with a bearer, right?"
Kumiko’s reasoning was logical, and it wasn’t like Higo and Sakura wanted to hang out either. No, when the world succumbed to chaos like this, no one would be in the mood to hang out or even just do a simple thing like getting fresh air outside.
No, fear had already taken over the whole world, and no one knew what was going to happen tomorrow.
Then, in the evening, someone suddenly knocked on the door, catching those three off guard. After Higo opened it, the boy found so many people wearing protective equipment that covered their whole bodies standing in front of him, enough to make his heart jump.
It was exactly like the scene from a sci-fi movie, where he would get kidnapped by a bunch of psychos to be experimented on in a weird and creepy lab.
Fortunately, soon enough...
"Higo, it is me, Daniel!" A familiar voice suddenly greeted him from behind that protective gear; his tone was cheeky. "How is my armor looking? Cool, right? I feel like I could slay an enemy when the zombie finally arrives!" The man made an exaggerated movement as if he was carrying a sword, making all the guys behind him sigh simultaneously.
Higo himself couldn’t help but feel the corner of his lips twitching speechlessly right now. The man in front of him was Daniel Guzman, a Filipino who worked in the club as one of so many people in the medical team. Higo knew the man full well, not only because they were both Asians, so they hit it off quite well, but the man, Daniel, was also a crazy otaku who liked to pester Higo about anything Japanese.
Yeah, Guzman was just exactly like Randy, the Ghanaian striker in the second team who associated everything that Higo did as something coming out of an anime.
"Anyway, what is going on with that protective gear?" He decided to ask the other people behind instead of Daniel. The man brought at least four other people, and they all wore the same attire here. "Is it related to this virus?" He asked, concerned.
"Yeah, it spreads so easily with just a physical touch, and some papers even suggest that it could be transmitted through breath, so this protective gear is necessary." One of them nodded, explaining this matter thoroughly. "Anyway, we are here to give you all the daily necessities for a full week. Here, we have canned and instant food, vitamins, supplements, masks, and everything that you will need during this time. If you need anything else, just say so. It is better that we are the ones who go out since we have this." The man pointed at his ’armor’.
Higo nodded thoroughly, with the girls also coming up to check the goods there.
"Are you doing this for everyone?" The boy asked.
"Yeah, the club’s order." The man nodded once again. "You are the fifth player we have visited today, and the first four are quite in a panic. It is good that you still have your composure, but make sure you keep on guard, okay? We don’t need another victim falling right now."
Higo could feel the corner of his lips twitching once again. "It is not like we are not panicking, but I have been doing that since yesterday, and it is starting to get tiring, you know?"
"...Well, it will be more tiring, because no one knows how long this shitty situation will last, so brace yourself, man." The man wanted to pat Higo’s shoulder, but paused at the last second. Even though he was using his protective gear, the man still didn’t want to risk anything right now. "Anyway, just stay calm and get a hobby. If you start coughing, not being able to taste or smell anything, or even any slight discomfort, do a self-quarantine and call us immediately, okay?"
Higo nodded once again at the instruction. However, once the club’s medical team finally left, his gaze was still on them until they finally disappeared from his line of sight, and right after that, the boy couldn’t help but let out a deep sigh.
’Yeah, we really are at the end of the world right now...’
