The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 975: Conceding a Goal!
"OH! WHAT A GOAL! WHAT A GOAL FROM BAYERN MUNICH!"
"Once again... When they need a big player to be the game changer, it has to be Thomas Muller!"
"He moves cleverly into the heart of Schalke’s defensive box! He doesn’t even ask for the ball! He is just there! And Jamal Musiala finds him!"
"What a show of intelligence! What a brilliant play from Thomas Muller!"
In the DAZN studio, Daniel Herzog kept shouting excitedly, describing how the ball found the back of Higo’s net even though the goalkeeper had already taken an action to stop it beforehand.
Everything was explained in great detail, from how the ball was rotating to the disbelief on Higo’s face when he saw the ball slipping away from his grasp.
Honestly, at this point, everyone would know why he was the most successful football host in this country.
"It is so unfortunate for Schalke, but that is what they get from not adjusting their tactic even after knowing that their right back is getting beaten left and right." Michael Ballack shook his head, looking at Higo on the camera in pity.
"Half of the credit goes to Musiala. That young man managed to drag the ball into the touchline, getting all eyes on him before executing a fine pass that slipped through the hole to Thomas Muller, who sneaked cunningly into Schalke’s six-yard box."
"Higo is also unlucky in this case. He has been doing everything he could, perfectly stopping the ball on the near post. Who would’ve thought that the goalpost would betray him like that?"
"This is definitely the goal that Bayern needs the most, and on the other hand, it would be hard for Schalke to recover after conceding this kind of goal, one that happened from their head coach’s indecisiveness."
That was such a harsh statement, and if only Frohling’s position inside the club was not safe, Ballack’s words could be the final nail in the coffin, the one that would bury Frohling’s career alive.
Still, that was how German commentary was, blunt and precise without any feeling inside. Also, just because it was hurtful didn’t mean the statement was wrong.
Everything happened because Frohling failed to take Rudy off the pitch at the right time.
Hell, the head coach knew that his right back was not in the best state, having already panted heavily just after playing for the first half. However, he was still stubborn enough to use Rudy’s service until he was exhausted, and now, the whole team paid the price for that.
’I cannot blame Rudy for my incompetent ass.’ He murmured darkly, enough to make even Waldoch himself get away, as the assistant coach didn’t want to get caught in the crossfire.
He knew that he would be blamed right after the game was over, and the pressure would be bigger if the team lost the game today. So, the coach finally made a change that he should’ve made since the beginning of the game.
"Timo! Come in! You cover the right side for Rudy!" He called Timo Becker on the bench.
The man was startled for a second, as if he couldn’t believe that he was chosen here.
"Me? Are you sure, Boss?" He asked for confirmation. "You know that I am a little bit slow-witted, right?"
Frohling felt the corner of his lips twitching at Timo Becker’s honest admittance.
Indeed, compared to everyone else, Timo Becker was the slowest when it came to receiving information.
After all, the man always needed someone to command him where to go or what to do, and while it was still acceptable when he was playing as a support, fighting against Jamal Musiala, a talented dribbler, on his own was like putting him straight in front of the lion’s mouth.
Unfortunately, besides him, there was no other choice here.
"Switch him to the left. Sead could handle the pressure on the right well enough." Waldoch suddenly made a suggestion.
Frohling’s eyes lit up instantly as he saw that the idea was feasible.
"You are brilliant, Tomasz! Yes! Switch with Sead! His experience will be enough to deal with that little boy!"
So, with that in mind, Timo Becker finally came onto the pitch, replacing Sebastian Rudy, who was already at the end of his stamina.
Poor man, he looked so pale with his breath getting heavy, and just looking at him walking was painful enough for everyone to pity him.
"Sorry, Boss, I cannot hold him back long enough..." Rudy smiled wanly, probably expecting to get scolded here.
Frohling choked, somehow feeling guilty about this.
"Don’t worry, it is my fault at the beginning." He hugged the man quickly. "Just take a rest, and leave everything to your teammates."
Unfortunately, the so-called teammates were not as reliable as the boss initially thought.
Somehow, they had a weakness that wasn’t so often exposed before, and yet it emerged right against the worst opponent possible.
That so-called weakness was the fact that they didn’t concede that many goals this season, and as a result, once they suffered one, the players were so flustered for a moment, making their whole formation chaotic without getting any pressure from the opponent.
"FUCK! Calm down! Calm down! Malick, what the fuck are you doing?!"
"Don’t charge too far! Keep your eyes on your own territory! How many times do I have to tell you that?!"
Higo also felt the pressure, as the defensive line in front of him started to wander around aimlessly.
Malick Thiaw charged forward recklessly without even coordinating with the others first; Benjamin Stambouli started to get exhausted, and even Omar Mascarell also got affected since he had to cover the whole ground that was left by the others by himself.
Then, in the 64th minute, Bayern finally got another chance to score.
Once again, it all came from Jamal Musiala, who managed to cut into the middle, getting rid of everyone else with his dribble while also getting a better angle to curl the ball into the top bins.
However, before the boy could execute it on his own, Nabil Bentaleb did his own role, charging quite violently on the opponent.
As a result...
FWEEE!
The whistle was blown again, giving Bayern Munich another set-piece so close to the penalty box.
