The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 979: The Game is Finally Over!
"FUCK! Where the fuck are you going to run?!"
"You fucking cheater! Come here!"
"Don’t think you can just get away with this, you fucking coward!"
The moment Morita got thrown off to the ground, all the Schalke players rushed immediately, wanting to vent out their frustration on Alphonso Davies.
After all, that was definitely the closest chance they had ever gotten after conceding a goal from Thomas Muller earlier, one that could bring them back to the lead once again today.
Now, though, that attempt was stopped abruptly by Alphonso Davies’s professional foul, and while the boy had already gotten a red card, that didn’t mean they could accept it readily.
Alphonso Davies himself also knew that he had just put himself as a public enemy in this stadium, so the moment the red card was being given, he ran straight to the tunnel, not wanting to deal with the aftermath of what he had just done.
In the end, all the Schalke players had to swallow this bitter pill as their only chance to win this game had to be stopped this way.
They couldn’t really ask for any other punishment, anyway, as... Other than getting a red card, what was the worst punishment on the pitch?
If anything, what Alphonso Davies did was truly a definition of professionalism, as he stopped the attack with everything that he had, even sacrificing himself to prevent the team from losing.
Even the supporters on the stand had their shoulder dropped in frustration, and Morita, who was always composed no matter what happened, also could be seen clicking his tongue in annoyance before he was being helped to get up from the ground.
In the end, a free kick was given to Schalke, but since all the opponent’s players were back in their own territory, this didn’t mean anything, especially when the time was up already.
FWEEE! FWEEE! FWEEE!
Once Morita took the free kick, the referee blew the whistle immediately, ending the game with a draw as a result.
Honestly, Schalke should be quite happy, especially since they all thought initially that this was just a game that they were going to let go. However, right now, they couldn’t feel that way, not when they felt like they had a real chance to win today.
"Tch! You are lucky, Muller-san." Higo snorted as he shook hands with Thomas Muller. "You are being saved by that boy. Without him dragging Morita-san down, there is no way Morita-san would miss an empty goal like that."
"Hey, what do you mean by luck? It is your boy’s fault for not running quickly enough to get that ball." Muller shrugged, not really getting bothered by the draw result itself.
The high intensity that he had shown since the beginning of the game also subsided, and now, the man was back with the usual foolish grin that made him way more approachable than before.
The only difference here was probably him still sweating a lot while his breath was ragged, the effect of having to play full 90 minutes in such a cold weather.
"Still, it is a good game, right?" Higo couldn’t help but grin. "I got everything that I want today. I held Lewandowski to zero goals, and I also prevented you guys from scoring more than one. The final result is a little bit of a pity, but hey, can I really complain about not winning against Bayern?"
Muller just snorted at that teasing tone. "Don’t forget that I am the one who bagged a goal against you today."
"Only because you sneak in cunningly!"
"Well, a goal is a goal; what can I say?"
Honestly, it was so strange to see two people with an age difference of almost 15 years from two different nationalities bickering so easily like that.
Hell, even Lewandowski looked at his teammate with a dark face, probably still being salty that Muller got so close with the boy who was being a menace to him since they met for the first time a year ago.
In the end, though, Muller finally went back to his teammates, and Higo also took his sweet time greeting the supporters on the stand.
Even though the number was fewer than usual, he still appreciated those who still took the time to come, especially when the boy knew how difficult the situation was currently in this town.
Also, Higo had never treated them as a mere number. No, even though only 100 people came, those were real people, breathing and shouting for their support toward him.
It would be disrespectful to treat them just as a statistic, making him less grateful for the support on his side.
"Thank you for coming, guys!" He shouted while waving his gloves in the air. "Sorry, we cannot win today! But a draw against Bayern is not that bad, right?" He grinned.
This was followed by cheers that erupted from the stands, as everyone applauded him as loudly as they could.
"Heck yeah! Don’t worry, Higo, we are not disappointed with the result!"
"Yeah, not a single one of us has ever dreamed that we could steal a point against Bayern! Today is just that awesome!"
"Thank you for your hard work, Wakabayashi! Go back and rest; we will wait for your action again later!"
After greeting them all, Higo nodded in satisfaction before turning around to the pitch. It was already empty at this point, with all the players going back to the locker room quickly.
Not that he could blame them, since the temperature was freezing death right now.
Still, in front of the tunnel, Higo could see Morita carrying a thick winter jacket while the midfielder had already used one, and the moment Higo greeted him, the boy threw that jacket into his grasp immediately.
"Use it, Ryusuke. We need to go."
Higo blinked for a moment. "Go? Where?"
"There, of course." Morita nudged his head slightly toward the cameraman who was waiting for them. "DAZN asks us for a pitchside interview. So, ready to meet Michael Ballack again?"
