The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 985: Carrying Positive Momentum to the Next Game!
In the end, unfortunately, Higo had to drop Kumiko in Cologne before he went back to Gelsenkirchen. After all, the boy still had his own training session to attend.
The fortunate part, though, was that Cologne wasn’t that far from Dusseldorf, and it was also on the road to Gelsenkirchen. That was also why the coach was willing to let him leave, as the man knew where Higo went and didn’t think that it would affect Higo that much.
If anything, though, Frohling knew that with Higo meeting his girlfriend, this would bring a positive attitude from the boy, letting him train harder than ever after this.
True enough, a day after Higo picked up Kumiko from the airport, the boy went crazy. It was as if he was possessed by the God of Football himself, as not a single ball managed to get past him for more than two hours of the training session.
Even all the players there had their jaws slack in awe, wondering what kind of drugs the boy had just consumed before coming here.
"Okay, once again, the defensive team won today! Offense team, get ready to cover all the bills for the team’s snacks for a full week, okay?" Waldoch announced once the training session was over.
The others groaned instantly, especially those who were getting punished by it.
"Fuck it, Ryusuke! How could you do this to me?!" Fabian shook Higo on the shoulder quite violently.
"Honestly, Ryusuke, your skill as a goalkeeper is getting more ridiculous, you know?" Morita shook his head in admiration. "How could you still be better as time goes by? That shouldn’t be possible, right?"
"Yeah, be honest, Higo! What kind of drug did you take before coming today!" Benito Raman hugged him on the shoulder, punching the boy lightly with a playful smile.
"Tch! That’s not me being good, but more like you guys being suck that you cannot even get one, you know?" Higo snorted amusedly.
Still, the boy also realized that in this training session, his performance was at its peak, as he felt like everything moved so slowly in his eyes.
The boy didn’t think too much about it, though, crediting everything to his current state, where he was so excited after meeting Kumiko yesterday, nothing more and nothing less.
Still, this was a good thing, especially when the team was also carrying a positive momentum after forcing a draw against Bayern Munich.
Now, they went to the next game with a great spirit, intending to beat everyone else on their way.
Then, time passed quickly, and before they knew it, they had to move to Bremen for an away game against Werder Bremen.
This was definitely the best schedule that they could get, as after stealing a point from Bayern, they got a chance to continue their incredible run against the team that was sitting at the rock bottom currently.
Yeah, Werder Bremen itself hadn’t had a great season this year. Even after changing their head coach, they still failed to gain their second win after 18 games, their worst ever performance in history.
There was no way in hell Schalke wouldn’t be able to steal the win today.
Still, fighting against Werder Bremen was always something difficult to do. Even though the home team wasn’t in their best form, somehow, there was something that would always give Schalke trouble whenever they fought there.
This time was not so different, as Werder Bremen once again showed that their physicality was not something that could be underestimated.
Hell, that was their primary weapon in this game, as somehow, they couldn’t care less about gaining possession, but as long as they could stop Schalke from dictating the tempo, everything would be fine.
The first half was like hell for the midfield trio.
Morita and Omar Mascarell were overwhelmed as whenever they got the ball, they would be surrounded by at least two players who would never hesitate to clash with them.
Honestly, they lost count of how many times they had been falling today, being pushed, pulled, and even tackled by their fierce opponents.
Fortunately, Nabil Bentaleb was still strong as ever, managing to fight back with the same fierceness here.
Whenever someone dared to clash with him, the man would use the same power to knock some sense into them, making anyone question their choice if they wanted to take action against him.
As a result, the one who was controlling the game today was Nabil Bentaleb, and while he wasn’t as creative as Higo, his stability was quite underrated, allowing the team to gain a strong foothold in this harsh game.
It was also fortunate that God of Football seemed to be on their side today.
Even when the game was rough like this, they still managed to steal a goal. This time, it was from a crossing situation, where Sead Kolasinac managed to deliver a good ball that Matthew Hoppe headed without hesitation, beating two defenders in the aerial duel.
This goal was good insurance for them to continue the game with an easy mind, as sometimes, with Higo on the back, they just needed one to win everything.
Later, in the second half, they added one more goal to secure the win for themselves.
This time, it all started with a sequence of one-touch passes, running quickly from Malick Thiaw to Morita to Nabil Bentaleb before a through pass was sent to Benito Raman.
The Belgian winger dribbled through the flank so quickly, and before anyone could get closer to him, a cutback pass was sent straight to the other flank where Fabian Reese just needed to tap the ball into the back of the net to double their lead.
With the score 2-0, they played more freely, just playing the ball around casually.
However, somehow, disaster struck in the last moment, when Omar Mascarell was fighting an aerial duel against the opponent’s striker.
This time, the captain failed to land properly, and the next thing everyone knew, the Spaniard had already fallen on the ground, holding his knee while roaring in pain at the same time.
