The Rise of the Iron Wall!

Chapter 988: A Tough Match Against RB Leipzig!

  • Next Chapter

Well, unfortunately, RB Leipzig had already proved that they were not a team that Schalke could just dominate easily.

Somehow, their aggressive style, coupled with their young man who had almost infinite energy, managed to push Schalke to the brink, not giving the away team any chance to breathe at all.

Hell, the first ten minutes had become a hell itself for Schalke. After all, they couldn’t contain possession for more than three passes before Leipzig’s players were breathing down their necks, killing everything on the go.

So far, Schalke had only gained 24 percent of the possession, and while they were so used to not controlling the ball for too long, this was definitely over the top, as some players started to get frustrated.

"Fuck it, Morita! Do something!" Nabil cried in annoyance.

At this point, Morita had already proved that he was the best midfielder on the team, so whenever they had a problem that needed to be solved in the center, they relied on the boy unconsciously to solve all of their problem.

"Fuck you too, Nabil! If you think this is easy, do it yourself!" Morita shouted back; his jersey was already covered in dirt from being thrown to the ground so many times.

Indeed, the boy himself also had a difficult time right now. He was ganged up on by two aggressive midfielders who didn’t hesitate to throw his body to the ground in a second: Marcel Sabitzer and Kevin Kampl.

It seemed that RB Leipzig didn’t really care about the other Schalke midfielders, knowing that without Omar on the team, the heart would be in Morita.

As long as they could kill him, everything would be okay.

Their offense was also quite fierce. Christopher Nkunku truly showed that, besides Bayern’s players, he was one of the most dangerous players in the league.

His fluid movement in a tight space combined with his change of pace was a huge headache for Malick Thiaw and Stambouli to handle.

More than that, his instinct to see a little gap in Schalke’s defense and shoot the ball there was terrifying, enough to give him a lot of shots on target.

It was fortunate that Higo was still stronger than ever, protecting the goal with tooth and nail.

It didn’t matter what kind of method RB Leipzig used.

They tried to breach from the flank with the aggressiveness of Angelino, sneak into the middle with Nkunku’s control of tight space, or even use a smart, decisive through ball from Dani Olmo, who looked like he had eyes on all spots on the pitch, and yet none of them managed to get them a goal that they wanted.

If anything, they only made Higo shine brighter, as the boy was always one step ahead when it came to saving the ball from his goal.

"Fuck! Is this fucking real?!"

"How many times has he saved the ball so far?! Five? Six?!"

"He is a cheat code! Do a urine test for him! He is using a fucking drug!"

So many people in the stands complained. Still, Higo just put on a stoic face, not even blinking at them. If anything, his concentration was at its peak right now as he felt like everything moved so slowly before his eyes.

’What is going on? It isn’t just a clairvoyance ability anymore?’ He started to question himself.

Indeed, if before he always thought that this was due to him being excited, now that the boy was calm enough to think and he still saw everything moving so slowly like this, he couldn’t help but feel suspicious right now.

However, that was not the best time to think about it, as he still had a whole game to deal with.

In the end, the first half somehow became a show for Higo, as he was telling everyone else why he deserved all the best youngster awards in the world, like the Kopa Trophy or even Golden Boy.

It was unfortunate that the team’s midfield was not at its best, and even when they managed to sneak the ball to the frontline, the trio of Dayot Upamecano, Willy Orban, and Nordi Mukiele was still strong as ever, maintaining the order in the back.

In the second half, some changes were made by both teams. Schalke tried to add more resistance in the midfield by putting Levent Mercan, an energetic young man from the second team, to replace Jonas Hofmann who was so battered after having to fight a fierce battle in the middle.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig also didn’t believe that Higo would be able to last all the time under their constant pressure, so they put two fresh players, Hwang Hee-Chan and Yussuf Poulsen, to add gunpowder to their frontline.

Unfortunately, both changes didn’t affect the overall game.

If anything, both teams’ defensive lines were still as strong as ever, not letting any threat put their team at a disadvantage.

Higo, especially, had already bagged 9 saves in just 70 minutes, getting so close to another double-digit save in a game.

He had been doing this so many times this season, becoming the person who prevented Schalke from collapsing when the defense was underperforming like this.

In fact, with so many saves that he made this year, people had already expected him to pass the record of most saves in a season by miles.

Still, that was a matter for when the game was over.

As the game went on, the attacking intensity also dropped from both teams. It seemed that they both were satisfied with the current situation, and getting a draw was not something unacceptable.

At this point, getting a draw against Schalke was not an embarrassing result, as even Bayern itself failed to steal a win against them.

However, it seemed that luck was still not on Schalke’s side, as in the 86th minute, during an aerial duel against Nabil Bentaleb, Yussuf Poulsen accidentally grabbed the man’s arm and pulled it quite hard, and in the next second, the only sound that could be heard was Nabil’s roar of pain.

"FUCK! THAT HURTS!"
