The Rogue Villager Chen Erbao
Chapter 448: We Owe Each Other Nothing
Chen Erbao’s hand was still on Xia Qingxue’s chest when he heard a startled, suspicious voice from behind him.
He turned to see Song Yao staring at him, her eyes wide with shock.
Chen Erbao awkwardly withdrew his hand and cleared his throat.
“It’s nothing. I was just checking out your senior’s Jade Pendant…”
Song Yao’s face was filled with disbelief, but she ultimately said nothing. She simply walked around Chen Erbao, took Xia Qingxue by the hand, and led her off the balcony.
The look of disbelief she shot him as she left was incredibly frustrating for Chen Erbao.
‘Why doesn’t this girl believe me!’
Remembering the embarrassing incident of walking into the wrong room last night, Chen Erbao sighed. He decided not to stoop to the young girl’s level.
The hotel sent up breakfast, and after the three of them ate, Chen Erbao helped the two women with their disguises before heading out alone.
He had promised Lin Rui yesterday that he would visit her at her school, so he had to make the trip today.
He drove his sports car along the familiar route to the gates of Binhai University. After sending Lin Rui a message, he learned she had a last-minute class that morning and couldn’t get out until it was over.
Chen Erbao thought for a moment and decided to join Lin Rui in her class.
University classrooms were open for anyone to enter and leave. Even if you weren’t an enrolled student, the professors wouldn’t pay you any mind.
Chen Erbao parked his car, completed a simple registration at the campus entrance, and followed his phone’s map toward the academic building.
He hadn’t gotten far onto campus when he spotted a familiar figure.
‘Fuck, how did I run into her?’
Chen Erbao saw the two figures up ahead, and the corner of his mouth twitched. He was just about to turn and hide when he heard a voice call out from a distance:
“Chen Haonan!”
“…”
Feng Qingwan ran over, pulling Dongfang Yuqing by the hand. The two large mounds on her chest bounced, drawing the eye.
She ran up to Chen Erbao, her beautiful, almond-shaped eyes sizing him up, a faint anger on her face.
“What are you doing here?”
Chen Erbao spread his hands.
“Why can’t I be here? Does Binhai University ban outsiders?”
“You…”
Feng Qingwan was speechless with anger.
The memory of how Chen Erbao had forced her to eat that disgusting thing last night made her stomach turn.
“Hmph. You’re here for that little girlfriend of yours, aren’t you!”
Feng Qingwan’s face twisted in contempt, as if Chen Erbao had committed some heinous crime.
Chen Erbao frowned, his voice growing cold.
“This has nothing to do with you. After last night, we’re even. Goodbye.”
With that, he turned and walked away toward the academic building.
Feng Qingwan stood frozen in place. A long moment passed, and her eyes grew red. Glistening tears welled up, threatening to spill at any second.
Dongfang Yuqing hadn’t said a word the entire time, merely watching with keen interest from the sidelines.
When she heard Chen Erbao say, ‘After last night, we’re even,’ her eyes lit up with curiosity, and her gossip-loving soul was set ablaze.
“Qing Wan, what happened between you two last night?”
She watched Chen Erbao’s retreating figure and leaned in to whisper in Feng Qingwan’s ear.
Feng Qingwan sniffled, wiping away her tears and gritting her teeth.
“It was nothing. He just helped me win some money at a boxing gym last night.”
“Oh…”
At the mention of a boxing gym, Dongfang Yuqing dropped the subject. Her social standing was unique, and it wouldn’t do for her to be associated with such a place.
…
Chen Erbao made his way to the academic building, and along the path, he saw countless beautiful, stylish young women. He couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. ‘As expected of a top university, there are so many gorgeous girls!’
‘They might not be mine, but they’re still nice to look at!’
Following the directions from the text, Chen Erbao soon found the large lecture hall on the second floor. He pushed open the back door and immediately spotted Lin Rui sitting in the middle of the room.
Lin Rui was wearing a small white down jacket, her beautiful hair cascading over her shoulders. Her jade-like earlobes were a tender pink, her cheeks rosy, and her lively eyes kept darting toward the door, as if she were waiting for someone.
The seats next to her were empty, but a few rather handsome guys were sitting in the rows just in front of and behind her. They pretended to be whispering to their friends, but their eyes kept stealing glances at Lin Rui. Occasionally, they’d make an exaggerated gesture, hoping to catch the beauty’s eye.
But Lin Rui’s attention wasn’t on them at all. The moment she saw Chen Erbao, her exquisite face lit up with a brilliant smile. With her bright eyes and pearly teeth, she was as dazzling as a lotus in bloom.
“Brother Er Bao, over here!”
Lin Rui waved, calling out in a low voice.
Her voice immediately drew the eyes of every student around her. All heads turned in unison toward the door, their gazes landing on Chen Erbao.
Chen Erbao’s expression remained unchanged as he smiled, walked over to Lin Rui, and sat down beside her.
Under the envious and jealous stares of the other guys, Lin Rui threw her arms around Chen Erbao’s, resting her lovely face on his shoulder.
Chen Erbao chuckled and reached out to pinch Lin Rui’s cheek. He could practically hear the hearts of the surrounding guys shattering.
“Xiaorui, it seems like all the guys are looking at you!”
Lin Rui paid them no mind.
“I don’t care about them. I only want my Brother Er Bao!”
The full mounds of her chest enveloped his arm, their soft pressure sending a thrill through him.
If this weren’t the wrong time and place, he would have loved to take her for a wild ride.
Lin Rui was a finance and economics major, a department with a roughly equal number of male and female students. Once everyone had arrived, a middle-aged woman walked in, turned on the projector, and began the lecture.
Even though it had been years since he’d graduated, Chen Erbao felt like some things never change. The moment the professor started lecturing, he grew drowsy. He had slept soundly the night before, but he still couldn’t fight the urge to nod off.
Lin Rui placed her small hand on his leg under the desk.
“Brother Er Bao, if you’re sleepy, go ahead and get some rest. I’ll take notes, and I’ll wake you when class is over.”
“Mm.”
Chen Erbao didn’t fight it. He laid his head on the desk and was soon fast asleep.
Lin Rui thoughtfully draped her coat over him. A faint smile touched her lips as she watched him sleep soundly.
This scene once again made the other guys burn with envy, and many pulled out their phones to vent to their friends.
“You know that sophomore campus belle, Lin Rui? Turns out she’s had a boyfriend this whole time…”
“Did you hear? The sophomore campus belle, Lin Rui, is pregnant…”
“Lin Rui already had the kid…”
In just half an hour, all sorts of outrageous rumors spread like wildfire through the campus social network. Meanwhile, the man at the center of it all was still sleeping soundly. As for Lin Rui, she sat up straight, listening attentively to the professor. Every now and then, she would glance at the man beside her, and the unintentional smile that graced her lips was nothing short of breathtaking.
The two-hour lecture ended, and Chen Erbao was woken by the sounds of conversation around him. He looked up to see that most of the students were gone. Lin Rui’s coat was still draped over his shoulders.
Lin Rui, now just in her tight-fitting white sweater, was doodling in a notebook.
Chen Erbao leaned over for a look and saw that she had sketched a picture of him sleeping.
