The Rule-Breaker of the Doomsday Game
Chapter 525: Transformation of the Remnant Body, Fierce Fei Devours the Stars
In Fei’s vision, the remnant of the Ginseng Fruit Tree had stretched out like some monstrous creature. From its dense mass of human-faced eyeballs burst a profound loathing for all living things.
Meanwhile, five twisted, colossal eyes were filled with a deathly stillness. At that moment, the very parameters of the universe changed drastically.
This meant the other party had once again activated its ability to make heaven and earth perish with it, targeting the entire universe.
The Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao naturally no longer had this ability. Even if he wanted to activate it, he couldn’t. After all, he was now the genuine Celestial Dao.
How could he possibly harm himself?
But its former remnant could. Its lingering instincts, with just a bit of insignificant help, could unleash the ability once more.
This was a contingency he had left in place before being captured by Qi Suian.
As long as he failed to disarm it in time, it would inevitably activate.
It was all to prevent some hidden mastermind from snatching his success. If that happened, he would rather destroy everything than let Qi Suian have his way.
As it turned out, his caution had not been misplaced; he had simply miscalculated his own fate.
The entire universe was shaking violently. Planets shattered, galaxies fractured, and even space and time were thrown into a state of chaos.
Any ordinary person would be doomed in such a situation.
Yet Qi Suian remained completely unaffected. In his state, one could say he had transcended the Three Realms and was no longer bound by the Five Elements.
A universe unto himself, he could ignore any and all external changes.
As a derivative of Qi Suian, Fei had naturally inherited these traits. So, no matter how drastically the universe changed, it… still affected it.
It could indeed ignore the changes to the universe itself, but the shockwaves and other related phenomena from shattering planets and fracturing galaxies obstructed its path.
Fortunately, Fei was already extremely close to the Ginseng Fruit Tree’s remnant. Its bovine hooves slammed into the remnant’s body, instantly shattering one of the giant eyes that had evolved from a planet.
This act immediately enraged the remnant of the Ginseng Fruit Tree, which lunged forward like a giant octopus.
When coiled up, the remnant was indeed smaller than Fei. But now, it had unfurled its body, its size far surpassing Fei’s.
Countless roots swarmed over Fei, attempting to burrow into its body and completely envelop it.
Fei was wrapped so tightly that it no longer looked like an ox, but more like a giant ball.
However, Fei’s ox-like form was merely an illusion; it was no real bovine. Countless fibers began to split off from its body and, in turn, began to devour the remnant.
The Ginseng Fruit Tree’s remnant possessed no intelligence, only the instinct left behind by a sliver of life force. Unable to assess the true situation, it actually intensified its assault.
At this moment, Fei no longer had a coherent form. It had transformed into a sky-blotting mass of fibers, unleashing the ravenous hunger that had been concealed and sealed within its body.
In a mere instant, a layer was stripped from the Ginseng Fruit Tree’s remnant, and it continued to wither away at an astonishing rate.
The remnant naturally tried to struggle, but the individual fibers were too small and the collective swarm too vast, leaving it no opportunity to resist.
Its complete consumption was only a matter of time—and not a very long time, at that. It would take merely an hour.
Qi Suian projected this scene for the Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao to watch.
“You see? When your strength is insufficient, what’s the point of resorting to such schemes and machinations?”
“If you were truly powerful, you wouldn’t need to worry about these petty tricks. Even if they succeeded, do you think they could possibly affect me?” Qi Suian said, his research continuing without pause.
The reason for saying these things and showing him the scene was, of course, to deal a psychological blow and weaken his state of Spirit.
A subject with a strong will to resist and one whose psychological defenses have collapsed present two entirely different levels of difficulty.
As long as the subject possessed self-awareness, such methods would be effective.
“Using your strength to bully the weak—that’s not what a truly powerful being does.”
“You’re just using it to cover up your own depravity.” The Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao watched his plan fail. His state of Spirit wavered violently, but he forced himself to remain calm.
‘Controlling one’s emotions is the most fundamental step in growth,’ he thought. ‘Otherwise, screaming and losing your mind over every little thing just gives the enemy a chance to strike.’
“You’re actually right about that.” Qi Suian remarked, ‘This guy’s a real talent.’ “I didn’t expect you to be able to summarize the story of my rise to power so accurately. Not bad, not bad at all.”
Qi Suian couldn’t care less about the insult. He was a survivor by trade; staying alive was the only goal.
As for the methods and process of his survival, if he had to adhere to the standards of a so-called “powerful being,” he never would have made it this far.
If he tried to be moral with the apocalypse and his enemies, would they play the part of virtuous gentlemen in return?
His enemies might listen, but the apocalypse certainly wouldn’t. It was basically a natural disaster born from human folly; whether it could even understand human language was another question entirely.
As for the saying that good deeds are rewarded, he used to believe that—before he became a survivor.
Faced with Qi Suian’s shameless words, the Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao barely restrained himself from cursing aloud. ‘How could such a despicable person possess such immense power? It’s as if the heavens are blind!’
Unfortunately, he had yet to realize that he himself was now “the heavens.”
He had eyes, alright, but they were filled with double standards.
He completely ignored his own history of clawing his way to the top, heedless of how many lives he had sacrificed.
Qi Suian, on the other hand, dared to admit his sins directly. He knew what he did was wrong and understood perfectly the weight of the lives he carried on his shoulders to get where he was.
But he simply didn’t care. To survive, he was willing to do whatever it took.
The Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao, in contrast, had glorified the bloody process of his own success, finding high-sounding justifications to whitewash his past.
Thus, he believed himself to be righteous.
Seeing this, Qi Suian tore his facade away. “You think you’re so noble and just? No, you’re even more contemptible than I am.”
“You used humans to…”
“To make their sacrifice something you were owed, to make…”
As Qi Suian spelled it out, word by word, the Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao remained expressionless. He refused to acknowledge Qi Suian’s words, treating them as mere slander.
In this regard, his mental fortitude was indeed only a bit weaker than Qi Suian’s; it was also possible he simply refused to believe it.
Still, the words definitely had an effect. His Spirit and psyche were shaken on different levels. Though it wasn’t enough to shatter his Dao Heart, it was enough to make it tremble.
“It was their honor! I am now the Celestial Dao, the supreme—” Before he could finish, the Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao couldn’t help but retort.
But Qi Suian physically muted him. “Shut up. Noble my ass. Supreme? If you’re so incredible, why are you on my lab’s operating table being dissected?”
Those words instantly broke through the Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao’s defenses, proving far more effective than anything Qi Suian had said before.
The Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao immediately started cursing his lungs out.
This made Qi Suian inwardly sigh in relief. He had finally achieved the desired effect.
If his subject had managed to keep restraining his emotions, it would have meant Qi Suian’s verbal provocations were still ineffective.
Impotent rage, profuse cursing… it all meant his emotions were becoming unstable.
“My, your cursing is so vulgar. It’s starting to make me a little angry.”
“So, why don’t you take a good look at your own pathetic state and tell me what it has to do with words like ‘noble’ or ‘supreme’?”
“Oh, and by the way, you can also enjoy the show of your former body being devoured to the last scrap.”
As he spoke, Qi Suian brought out a mirror, forcing the Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao to look at his own wretched appearance. Next to the mirror, he projected the scene of his former remnant being devoured by the fibers.
“You despicable, filthy…” The Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao’s curses were limited to just a few words repeated over and over. After listening for a while, Qi Suian was actually getting a little bored.
The being hadn’t even cursed his ancestors back eighteen generations. It was a clear sign of just how impoverished his vocabulary was.
“Thank you for the compliment,” Qi Suian said with a smile. “Baseness is the passport of the base; nobility the epitaph of the noble.”
“Enjoy the show. Once your remnant has been devoured, I’ll be back to continue our experiment.”
With that, Qi Suian left.
He hadn’t left merely to torment the Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao. Rather, something had changed with the Doomsday Game.
Its recovery speed had suddenly spiked, as if it were on drugs… well, it had, in fact, taken a drug of sorts.
The actions of both Qi Suian and the Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao had caused a doomsday effect to erupt.
The Doomsday Game, which fed on doomsday events for sustenance, had naturally received a massive boost. It went from being on the brink of death to merely being severely injured, and had even awoken from its coma.
And the moment it woke up, it started trying to pull a fast one, attempting to break free from the Tai Sui God’s Human Skin on Qi Suian’s body.
But Qi Suian’s reflexes were faster; he immediately pinned it down.
If it broke free, finding the Doomsday Game again would be no easy task. Its concealment techniques were extraordinary; Qi Suian would likely have to devour the entire world just to find it.
And that was the best-case scenario. Being “severely injured” meant the Doomsday Game had regained its mobility. Why would it stick around? It would turn tail and flee this world immediately.
Then, in the vastness of the void, they would truly be lost to each other for all eternity.
Thus, Qi Suian was forced to interrupt his research and beat the Doomsday Game back down to its previous near-death state, leaving it barely clinging to life.
If he continued to ignore it, it might use this doomsday event to upgrade its condition from “severely” to “moderately” injured, and could even turn around and backstab Qi Suian.
The Ginseng Fruit Tree·Celestial Dao, on the other hand, was already a settled matter. Temporarily interrupting his research would cause no issues.
When it came to prioritizing his tasks, Qi Suian naturally understood which one to handle first.
“All the survivors are dead, yet you’re still making trouble. It seems you’re looking to die as well,” Qi Suian said, his expression grim as he glared at the Doomsday Game.
