Chapter 147: Delightful Progress
Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Delightful Progress
Yu Lina fell and let loose a string of profanities.
Tang Ying ran over to help Yu Lina up. "Lina, be careful..."
The word was barely out of her mouth when Yu Lina slapped her. "Are you blind? Why didn’t you grab me?"
Tang Ying quickly covered her face, shielding it from another blow.
In that moment, Tang Ying’s eyes were lowered.
Han Xiaorui was sure Tang Ying was concealing a look of pure resentment.
Yu Lina’s clothes had torn, forcing her to stop her rampage. She pointed at Han Xiaorui. "You just wait. I won’t let you get away with this."
Han Xiaorui rolled her eyes. "Yu Lina, I’ve run into you three times today. Who gave you the confidence to think Ye Feng could possibly like you? Was it this Tang Ying here?"
Tang Ying, who had been staring at the ground, snapped her head up, her eyes filled with panic. "I... I didn’t!"
Han Xiaorui held up her hands. "I don’t know why you keep instigating the obsessive Yu Lina, but you two need to stop provoking me."
"Don’t think you can lord it over everyone just because your parents have some pull. If you dare touch me, I’ll make you regret it."
A vicious glint appeared in Yu Lina’s eyes. "Do you think Ye Feng can protect you?"
"I don’t need Ye Feng’s protection." Han Xiaorui sneered. "I’d like to see just how many more of your messes your father is willing to clean up."
Giving the two a cold glance, Han Xiaorui walked straight past them.
’I didn’t say all that just to make empty threats. It was to get the upper hand. I’ve already used a ’little trick’ on both Yu Lina and Tang Ying.’
’This Yu Lina is a lunatic, and having someone with ulterior motives next to her makes her very dangerous.’
"You..." Yu Lina, overcome with fury, tried to chase after her and yank her hair.
But she barely took two steps before she staggered and collapsed, passing out cold.
’That should keep Yu Lina in bed for at least a week.’
’Hopefully, Uncle Ye can resolve this situation with Yu Lina within that week.’
Han Xiaorui hailed a "turtle car" and headed straight for the Maternal and Child Health Hospital to meet up with her sister.
The children had class in the morning, and in the afternoon, the three of them were to be tested to evaluate the results of the past three months of intervention.
Han Xiaoqing and Liang Xiaoyu were waiting by the classroom door.
"Are the results in yet?" Han Xiaorui asked.
"Expert Wang is conducting the tests himself. It’ll be another half hour," Han Xiaoqing replied. "How’s Brother Ye’s recovery going?"
Han Xiaorui smiled. "He’s recovering pretty well. But they say a serious injury takes a hundred days to heal. To get back to his old self, he’ll probably need to rest for another two months."
"That’s good," Han Xiaoqing said with a smile. "Then for the next visit, let’s pick a weekend. I’ll bring Pingping and An’an to see him, too."
"Okay!" Han Xiaorui nodded, then turned to the anxious-looking Liang Xiaoyu and comforted her. "Sister-in-law Xiao Yu, Xiao Jun’s progress is obvious to everyone. As long as he’s improving, you don’t need to worry!"
The nervous Liang Xiaoyu managed a small smile at Han Xiaorui’s words. "I try to tell myself the same thing, but I can’t help but worry."
"Xiao Rui, I’m so, so grateful to you for finding this place for intervention! If it wasn’t for you, Xiao Jun might have ended up becoming a Village Guard!"
Han Xiaorui smiled. "You don’t have to thank me. I just happened to see it on TV. Even though it’s a little pricey, our income is higher now."
Liang Xiaoyu nodded repeatedly at this, her gaze on Han Xiaorui growing even more grateful.
"Our family’s income before... we could get by, but we were always stretched thin. Ever since I started going out fishing with you, the pay has been so generous. I suddenly feel like I’m a rich person."
"My mother-in-law tells me all day at home that you’re our family’s benefactor! She told me to work hard with you and not be lazy."
"My mother-in-law also gives me pointers. She says that now with over a dozen people on the boat, there are some things it’s not appropriate for you to say, so I should be the one to step up and say them."
"From now on, let me handle the things that might offend people; you just be the good boss. Of course, you’re already a great boss! It’s a blessing for all of us on the crew to have a boat owner like you."
Han Xiaorui was a little embarrassed by the praise, but she had to admit, it felt pretty good.
"You all work for me, and I pay your wages. Since I’m earning more, I certainly can’t mistreat the people who work with me."
Half an hour later, Expert Wang emerged with a smile, clearly satisfied with the results of the day’s tests.
"The children are playing inside. Xiao Jing, Xiao Rui, and Xiao Yu, let’s go to my office to talk."
"Thank you for all your hard work, Expert Wang!" Han Xiaorui said with a smile, following him to the office.
Expert Wang didn’t waste time on pleasantries. "I’ve just finished testing the three children, and their progress is remarkable."
"Pingping and An’an have reached the level of a two-and-a-half-year-old. Compared to their tests three months ago, that’s a growth of eight months."
"This means they’ve caught up by five months. Their intellectual and expressive abilities are now only a year behind their actual age."
"If they continue to progress this quickly, they’ll be able to catch up. Even if they don’t fully catch up, it’s alright. They can just start school a year late."
Han Xiaorui’s face lit up with a huge smile. "Thank you, Expert Wang! We could definitely sense their progress."
Expert Wang was delighted but replied humbly, "This is also a result of you parents working hard together with us."
Liang Xiaoyu quickly asked, "Expert Wang, what about my son? How did he do?"
Expert Wang replied, "Xiao Jun has also made great progress, advancing six months in three. These three children are the fastest-improving ones we have here."
Liang Xiaoyu was relieved. "That’s wonderful!"
At that moment, Han Xiaoqing spoke up. "Expert Wang, I’ve observed them carefully. Pingping, An’an, and Xiao Jun are actually very willing to play with other children."
"If we put them in a kindergarten environment, to play with children their own age, would the results be even better?"
Hearing this, Expert Wang nodded. "The fact that they’re willing to play with other children their age shows that their autism symptoms are becoming milder."
"The reality is, there are still differences between them and other children. Perhaps the other kids don’t have any malicious intent, but children with slightly delayed intellectual development are easily overlooked or bullied."
"If the kindergarten teachers are patient and thoughtful enough to provide extra help and attention, then attending kindergarten could be a good option."
Hearing this, Liang Xiaoyu scratched her forehead. "Should I have my mother-in-law apply for a job as a cook at the kindergarten?"
Han Xiaorui’s eyes lit up at her words. "Why don’t we just start a kindergarten in the village? I’ll pay for it!"
Liang Xiaoyu looked surprised for a moment, then smiled. "If you start a kindergarten, my family can provide the space. We have a house with three courtyards but we only live in one. That leaves two empty. We can pick the bigger one to renovate; it’ll be more than enough for a kindergarten."
Han Xiaorui thought this was a viable plan. "Expert Wang, you could even conduct a research project. Send people to the kindergarten to do the intervention and see how the results compare to doing it in the hospital. If other parents are willing to send their children over, we can offer free enrollment."
’A kindergarten in the village, so the children can go to school right here.’
’That way, even when my sister goes to university, the two children will be well taken care of, and I won’t have to worry about them.’
