The Sea Queen of 1985
Chapter 237: Formidable Dahuang
Chapter 237: Chapter 237: Formidable Dahuang
Han Xiaorui rode her scooter, headlights blazing, following close behind.
This was indeed the way to Han Xiaorui’s house, but Dahuang stopped when they passed Lin Yongfu’s front gate.
Dahuang unhesitatingly began scratching at Lin Yongfu’s front door.
Seeing this, Yang Zhigang kicked the door hard. "Lin Yongfu, open this door right now!"
Just then, Yang Jianguo also arrived at Lin Yongfu’s door with a group of people, having gone door-to-door.
Second Sister-in-law Lin jumped in alarm and hurried to open the door. "Why are you kicking our door in the middle of the night?"
Yang Jianguo saw Second Sister-in-law Lin open the door, but not Lin Yongfu. He said, "My Minmin is missing!"
Second Sister-in-law Lin resented Yang Jianguo and the others for getting her husband removed from his position as village chief.
"Your Minmin is missing? What’s that got to do with us! Get lost, we haven’t seen her!"
Second Sister-in-law Lin blocked the doorway, refusing to let them in.
Yang Zhigang and Yang Jianguo were both grown men and felt it was inappropriate to just shove a woman aside.
Han Xiaorui had no such qualms. She gave Second Sister-in-law Lin a hard shove.
She believed that Dahuang hadn’t come here for no reason.
"A child from the village is missing. We’re searching every house, and yours is no exception!"
"Move it, Second Sister-in-law Lin! The only reason you won’t let us in is if you’re guilty and hiding the child in here!"
Second Sister-in-law Lin was short and not nearly as strong as the young and robust Han Xiaorui.
Han Xiaorui’s shove sent her stumbling back several steps.
"Don’t think you can just bully people because you’re rich! This is breaking and entering! I’m calling the cops on you!"
Dahuang had already run into the courtyard and was by the well, barking. WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!
Yang Zhigang and Yang Jianguo followed close behind and hurried inside.
Han Xiaorui rushed over and saw a hairpin that had fallen by the well, near the wall.
"Uncle Yang, Brother Jianguo, everyone, come look! This is the hairpin I bought for Minmin. I can’t say it’s the only one in all of Shencheng, but it’s definitely one of a kind here in Jinshan Bay!"
"Finding this hairpin in Lin Yongfu’s house proves that Minmin was definitely here."
Just then, Wu Cuicui rushed over, leaning in to look. "That’s the clip my Minmin was wearing this afternoon! It’s her favorite one!"
Wu Cuicui grabbed Second Sister-in-law Lin by the collar and slapped her face twice.
"Miao Xiaofen, where the hell did you hide my daughter? If anything happens to my Minmin, I’ll make your whole family pay with their lives."
"I’ll stab your whole family to death, and I’ll pay for it with my own life! I swear not a single one of you will be left alive!"
Wu Cuicui shrieked, looking completely deranged.
At that moment, officers from the police station arrived. They put on gloves and picked up the hairpin with a pair of tweezers.
Second Sister-in-law Lin was stunned by the slaps. Seeing Wu Cuicui’s murderous glare, how could she dare argue?
"I really don’t know when Minmin came to our house! I took my kids to my mother’s place this morning and didn’t get back until seven tonight."
Han Xiaorui transferred a little more of her superpower to Dahuang. "Dahuang, keep searching!"
Dahuang circled the yard at Lin Yongfu’s house once, then walked out the gate.
Yang Jianguo and Yang Zhigang led the villagers, following close behind.
The women of the village helped search within the village itself.
All the men in the village who were home, young and old, followed them out of the village to search.
Han Xiaorui unclipped the leash from Dahuang’s collar.
Dahuang sniffed the ground as he tracked, reaching a fork in the road at the village entrance.
Without hesitation, Dahuang followed the eastern path.
After about a kilometer, Dahuang found one of Yang Minmin’s shoes on the roadside.
Han Xiaorui’s eyes lit up. "This is the shoe Sister Cuicui and I bought for Minmin in the city! Good boy, Dahuang! Keep searching!"
Han Xiaorui’s words jolted everyone, raising their spirits.
Even the police officers from the station were looking at Dahuang with shining eyes.
’This dog’s sense of smell is incredible!’
Yang Jianguo nodded. "That’s definitely Minmin’s shoe! This direction leads to the wholesale seafood market!"
Han Xiaorui patted Dahuang’s head. "Dahuang, keep looking!"
Dahuang tracked the scent to its destination: the wholesale seafood market, three kilometers away.
According to clues from Grandma Chen San and several other older women at the village entrance, Lin Yongfu had left Jinshan Bay at 6 p.m. on his three-wheeled cart, which was piled high with cardboard, heading toward the seafood market.
The seafood market had a complex mix of smells, with the overpowering scent of seafood.
It interfered with Dahuang’s sense of smell, but he soon found a nearby scrap collection station.
A pile of cardboard was sitting near the entrance, and Dahuang charged toward it.
Amidst the pile of cardboard, they found another hairpin identical to the one found at Lin Yongfu’s house.
Yang Jianguo saw it too and quickly said, "Officer, that’s my daughter’s hairpin. That bastard Lin Yongfu, going after a child! When I get my hands on that scumbag, I’ll kill him."
Han Xiaorui quickly asked, "Ma’am, do you remember who sold you this pile of cardboard?"
The female owner was taken aback. Seeing so many people, including some in police caps, she didn’t dare be careless.
Hearing Yang Jianguo mention Lin Yongfu, she nodded quickly. "Yes, Yang Jianguo is right. Lin Yongfu was the one who brought in this pile of cardboard. I gave him thirty cents, but he complained it was too little and demanded fifty."
The police heard this. Finding the missing girl’s hairpin in the cardboard Lin Yongfu had sold made him a prime suspect for the abduction.
Yang Zhigang knew people in the area. He asked around the seafood market and quickly found out where Lin Yongfu was.
He was in a small restaurant, drinking with someone. The three-wheeled cart parked at the entrance had been washed clean.
The police rushed in and immediately restrained Lin Yongfu with handcuffs.
With his arms twisted behind his back and his face pressed against the table, Lin Yongfu yelled, "You’re the police, how can you just arrest people randomly? I’m a good person!"
Another officer produced two hairpins. "Lin Yongfu, these two hairpins belong to Yang Minmin. One was found in the crack between the well and the wall at your house, and the other was found in the scrap you just sold."
"You’re the one who took Yang Minmin. Confess and you’ll be treated with leniency; resist and you’ll face the full force of the law. Where did you hide the child?"
These were the most critical hours in the search for the child; not a moment could be wasted.
The police cleared the other patrons out of the restaurant and began interrogating Lin Yongfu on the spot.
Lin Yongfu tried to argue his way out. "How should I know where Yang Minmin is? You can’t convict me based on two hairpins. Maybe Yang Jianguo is framing me!"
Yang Jianguo gritted his teeth, and when no one was looking, he kicked Lin Yongfu squarely in the crotch.
Lin Yongfu, who had been arguing, immediately crumpled like a cooked shrimp from the pain. "AHH, Yang Jianguo, you motherfucker, how dare you..."
Yang Zhigang didn’t hit Lin Yongfu. Instead, he leaned close to his ear and whispered, "Lin Yongfu, you listen to me, and listen good. If Minmin is alive, your family lives. If we can’t find Minmin, or if she’s dead, I’ll sink your entire family to the bottom of the sea to feed the fish."
"No, I... It really wasn’t me..." Lin Yongfu’s eyes went wide with terror as he recalled Yang Zhigang’s ruthless tactics. ’He really would throw me into the sea to feed the fish.’ "It’s... The child has already been taken away!"
