Chapter 312: Chapter 312: A Well-Deserved Beating
Qi Wenxuan scratched his head. "Yeah, my parents suggested I go study in Germany. They have businesses and work over there. Even though they’ve also invested in China, they still spend most of their time in Germany."
"I know that studying abroad is a great opportunity, but I can’t bear to leave Xiao Jing. I’m afraid that if I go, after a few years, I’ll have a degree but I’ll have lost my chance at love."
It would be insincere to lie to Ye Feng.
Besides, Ye Feng wasn’t just a family friend and relative now; he was also Han Xiaoqing’s brother-in-law.
With her parents gone, an older sister is like a mother, which made her husband an elder to Han Xiaoqing as well.
If he wanted to win Han Xiaoqing’s heart, he had to get on the good side of her family and earn their approval.
Ye Feng listened to Qi Wenxuan while keeping an eye on the children. "Are you serious about this?"
Qi Wenxuan’s voice grew urgent. "Brother Feng, I’m absolutely serious, more real than pure gold. The truth is, I had a crush on Xiao Jing from the first moment I saw her. But I was an orphan back then. When I saw how wonderful she was, I didn’t dare confess. I was afraid she’d have to suffer if she was with me."
Ye Feng raised an eyebrow. "So now that you have parents and a rich family, you dare to confess? You do know that’s all your parents’ money, right? If they give it to you, it’s yours. If they don’t, it has nothing to do with you."
"A real man can’t rely on his parents for everything. If you’re good enough on your own, all those external factors are secondary. If you’re not, even with mountains of gold and silver, it won’t change the fact that you’re a good-for-nothing."
Qi Wenxuan was taken aback and gave an embarrassed laugh. "Brother Feng, I’m not that bad, am I? I was happy to find my parents, of course, but I wasn’t thinking about their money. After all, they had other children after they went abroad."
"I’m a grown man now. I can rely on my own abilities to build a good life. My feelings for Xiao Jing have nothing to do with material things. But every time I see Han Xiaoqing, I just can’t get the words out."
Ye Feng chuckled. "Then you just don’t love her enough!"
"I do, I do love her!" Qi Wenxuan said, flustered. "When I found out you were all going to Yunnan, I turned down going abroad with my parents so I could go with you. I want to confess to Xiao Jing during the trip."
Ye Feng clapped Qi Wenxuan on the shoulder. "Kid, confessing your feelings isn’t the hard part. The hard part is persevering in that love—continuing to love her no matter what happens."
"I approve of your character. Since you like her, go for it. If Xiao Jing accepts you, we won’t stand in your way. But if you ever hurt Xiao Jing in the future... heh heh, I can’t control much else, but I can guarantee I’ll beat the hell out of you."
Qi Wenxuan quickly promised, "Brother Feng, you know my character, don’t you? Even Sister Cai says I’m a good person and wouldn’t mess around."
Ye Feng smiled. "That was then. Who knows what the future holds? You should go. I still have to watch the kids!"
Ye Chen was running all over the place, shouting and yelling on the train.
Ye Feng called out to him a few times, but it was as if Ye Chen hadn’t heard a thing. He just kept doing as he pleased.
The guard, Xiao Zheng, kept reminding him, "Xiao Chen, this is a train, a public place. Don’t shout and disturb others."
But Ye Chen paid him no mind and continued to do as he pleased.
The surrounding passengers frowned, clearly annoyed, but seeing that he was just a child, they bit their tongues.
Besides, an adult was constantly reminding him, but the child wasn’t listening. They just chalked it up to a disobedient brat.
The passengers were quite tolerant and didn’t want to stoop to a child’s level.
Ye Feng’s brow furrowed. He strode over and kicked Ye Chen right in the butt.
The kick sent Ye Chen sprawling to the floor. Ye Feng said in a low, stern voice, "This is a train. It’s a public space. You’re not allowed to shout. Did you not grow ears? Can’t you hear me? Are my words just going in one ear and out the other?"
Ye Chen had been having fun, and when he was suddenly kicked to the ground, he was about to open his mouth to curse. But when he saw it was his big brother, he immediately shut up.
His butt hurt, but all he could do was rub it himself, scramble to his feet, and stand by the side without a word.
An elderly man nearby, however, looked at the chubby Ye Chen and said with a smile, "He’s just a little kid. A good talking-to is enough. No need to get physical."
"I’m sorry, my little brother doesn’t know any better. I apologize for disturbing everyone." Ye Feng addressed the other passengers before turning back to Ye Chen. "Aren’t you going to apologize to everyone?"
Ye Chen glanced over at his second brother, Ye Ling, who wasn’t far away.
Ye Ling immediately turned his head, pretending he hadn’t seen a thing.
It was no use looking at him; he couldn’t beat Big Brother anyway!
Their father had left them here specifically to listen to their big brother.
Besides, he had also tried to rein in his little brother just now, but the kid wouldn’t listen. He really had it coming.
At home, Ye Chen feared neither heaven nor earth.
Wang Liwen felt that this child, born to her and Ye Zheng, was her source of confidence in the Ye Family.
Ye Zheng also doted on this son. After all, his eldest son wasn’t around, and this boy was sturdy and robust, looking a lot like the young Ye Feng.
So, Ye Zheng had lavished a great deal of affection on Ye Chen, which was why the little brat had become so unruly.
The very reason Ye Zheng had left his two younger sons with Ye Feng was so that Ye Feng could discipline them, even if it meant getting physical.
Ye Chen saw his big brother hit him and his second brother ignore him.
He was a little far from his sister-in-law, so Ye Chen turned his gaze to Pingping and An’an.
Pingping and An’an had just seen their daddy hit their little uncle and were startled, but they trusted their father.
’Daddy is a good person. Little Uncle is a bad person.’
When they saw their little uncle looking at them, Pingping and An’an immediately hid behind their father.
A chill went through Ye Chen’s heart. He was all alone. He glanced at his big brother’s grim face, then bowed to everyone. "I’m sorry for disturbing you all."
"As long as he knows he was wrong, that’s what matters. No need for more hitting," the old man said with a smile. "They’re all good kids."
Ye Feng raised his wrist to check the time. "Go back and eat."
Ye Chen obediently followed his big brother back, not daring to run around or shout anymore.
The other passengers behind them couldn’t help but remark, "When it comes to disciplining a brat, talking doesn’t work. You’ve got to use your hands!"
This sentiment was met with widespread agreement.
When Ye Chen returned, he was about to sit on the bunk next to his sister-in-law when Ye Feng snorted and pointed to the corridor. "Go over there, stand still, and reflect on what you did."
Ye Chen wanted to cry, but seeing the cold look in his big brother’s eyes, he choked his tears back and obediently went to stand properly in the corridor.
Han Xiaorui was surprised. "What’s going on?"
Ye Feng looked at Ye Chen. "Tell me yourself, why am I punishing you? If you get it right and show you’re truly sorry, I’ll take half an hour off your punishment."
Ye Chen, who had been on the verge of tears, heard he only had to stand for half an hour and instantly forgot about crying. "Sister-in-law, I was shouting on the train just now and disturbing everyone’s rest. I was wrong, Sister-in-law. Please talk to my big brother for me, tell him not to hit me."
Han Xiaorui understood when she heard Ye Chen’s explanation. "You were definitely in the wrong. This is a train, a public place. How could you shout like that?"
"But since you’ve admitted your mistake so sincerely, I’ll put in a good word for you. We’ll cut it in half again. Fifteen minutes."
Ye Chen’s eyes lit up, but he didn’t dare move since his big brother hadn’t said anything. He looked toward his big brother.
Ye Feng nodded. "What your sister-in-law says, goes. Before we left, I laid down three rules for you two. If you don’t listen, or if you get separated and lost, don’t blame me."
"There are a lot of human traffickers out there, and plenty of wild animals in Yunnan. If you don’t want to die and you don’t want to get lost, then you’d better behave."
Han Xiaorui nodded. "That’s right. You’re still young and can’t protect yourselves. When you’re away from home, you have to listen to your big brother."
Seeing that his big brother was not to be trifled with, and that his sister-in-law apparently wasn’t either, Ye Chen replied, "I understand, Big Brother, Sister-in-law."
