Chapter 339: Superior Birth and Upbringing Policy
Chapter 339: Chapter 339: Superior Birth and Upbringing Policy
Chen Yishui thought for a moment. "Well, it’s your body, so you know it best. If you feel like there’s no problem with getting on the boat, then go ahead."
"If you feel there is a problem, don’t put your health at risk just to make money. After all, the baby is more important than any amount of money."
Liang Xiaoyu nodded quickly in agreement. "That’s right, Xiao Rui! You said it yourself—the Xu family has a massive enterprise, and they’re counting on you and Ye Feng to have a child."
"If you successfully give birth to the child, let’s not even talk about anything else—the jewelry the Xu family’s matriarch gave you is worth far more than you could ever make from a few boatloads of seafood."
Han Xiaorui burst out laughing. "I understand everything you’re saying. The only reason I’m saying this is because I’m confident about my own condition."
"You’ve all seen how I am with Pingping and An’an—I’m definitely a good mother. Now that I have a baby in my belly, I’ll cherish it even more than I cherish myself."
Liang Xiaoyu nodded, genuinely happy for Han Xiaorui. "Then it’s settled! We won’t say a word. If Ye Feng found out, he’d definitely forbid you from going."
Han Xiaorui was quite confident. "He’s usually so busy, there’s no way he’ll find out!"
Han Xiaorui was confident that Ye Feng wouldn’t find out, but she couldn’t account for an unexpected assist.
Just as Han Xiaorui went out to sea with the others, the director of the Women’s Federation, Xu Hongxia, personally delivered some family planning pamphlets and promotional materials to their home.
They contained information not just on family planning policies, but also on things to be aware of when trying to conceive, how to determine pregnancy, common symptoms, and more.
"Ye Feng, is Xiao Rui not home?" Xu Hongxia said with a cheerful smile.
Ye Feng smiled. "Director Xu, please have a seat. Xiao Rui isn’t home; she went out to sea. Is there something you need?"
Director Xu smiled. "You’re newlyweds, so I’ve come to share the family planning policy. According to regulations, you and Xiao Rui are permitted to have one child. If she gets pregnant, please register it with the village committee promptly. Oh, and here’s some material on prenatal and postnatal health. You two should look it over when you have time."
Ye Feng accepted the materials from Director Xu. "Thank you, Director Xu. Xiao Rui’s busy, so I’ll be the one to read them."
"Good, either of you can read it." Director Xu nodded. "I have to go share this policy with others, so I won’t disturb you any longer. Remember: scientific preparation for a healthy baby."
"I understand. I guarantee we’ll adhere to the national policy," Ye Feng assured her. He was already familiar with the regulations.
A couple of days ago, his grandfather, while understanding the state-implemented family planning policy, hadn’t been too keen on it applying to his own family. He had even suggested that Ye Feng or Han Xiaorui get foreign citizenship so they could have more children.
But Ye Feng had refused!
After dinner, Ye Feng took Pingping and An’an outside to play for a while. Then, Wu Jiao gave the children a bath and tucked them into bed.
With nothing else to do, Ye Feng sat on the edge of the bed and picked up a book from the nightstand.
His gaze fell upon the pamphlets on family planning and prenatal health that Xu Hongxia had delivered that day.
Seeing the image of a heavily pregnant woman on the cover, he found himself interested in the contents.
He began to flip through them, his expression growing more and more focused the more he read.
When he reached the section on calculating the length of a pregnancy, Ye Feng froze, then held up his fingers to count.
Since they got married, Han Xiaorui hadn’t had her period.
By his count, it had been a month and a half.
During their pre-marital health check, Han Xiaorui had been in perfect health.
Putting it all together, it was highly likely that Han Xiaorui was pregnant!
The moment he considered this possibility, Ye Feng grew agitated. He wanted to contact Han Xiaorui, but she was out at sea, too far away to be reached.
Ye Feng spent the night half-asleep, and when he woke up the next morning, he was visibly lethargic.
Seeing his state, Wu Jiao chuckled. "Brother Ye, don’t tell me you were tossing and turning because you miss Sister Xiao Rui too much?"
Pingping and An’an looked up. "Daddy misses Mommy!"
Ye Feng smiled. "That’s right! Now, hurry up and eat. Daddy will take you to school in a little while."
"Okay!" Pingping grinned and took a big bite of his food.
Ye Feng took the children to school, while Wu Jiao stayed behind to tidy up the house before heading to the kindergarten to help out.
Ye Feng was distracted at work that day, his mind elsewhere.
On the third day, Ye Feng asked his grandfather for time off.
Xu Yingying immediately rolled her eyes. "Ye Feng, you’re unbelievable! If you take time off, you’ll just dump all the work on me!"
"If you don’t have a good reason, I can deny your request on behalf of my father. Stop trying to slack off all the time!"
Mr. Xu chuckled. "Now that your aunt has finally managed to trick you into joining the company, do you really think she’d let you just drop your responsibilities and walk away?"
"Just spit it out. We have a meeting soon! We don’t have a lot of time to waste. Daytime work hours are precious; if we can get everything done now, we won’t have to stay late and work overtime."
Ye Feng considered for a moment. "I’m not certain, but there’s something I need to confirm with Xiao Rui in person."
Hearing this, Mr. Xu and Xu Yingying exchanged a look. ’Are they having relationship problems?’ they wondered.
Xu Yingying’s expression turned serious. "What is it that’s weighing on you so much? We’re all family here, there’s no need to be evasive. Just say it!"
Mr. Xu also turned to his grandson. "That’s right. If there’s a problem between you two, you should resolve it quickly. Don’t let it linger and cause more misunderstandings."
Seeing his grandfather and aunt braced for bad news, Ye Feng couldn’t help but smile. "You’ve misunderstood. Xiao Rui and I are doing great! There’s no problem at all."
"The reason I’m asking for time off is because I was reading that prenatal health handbook and saw the section on how to determine pregnancy. I used the method described in it to make a calculation."
"I suspect that Xiao Rui is pregnant. She probably doesn’t even know. She went out to sea with the crew a couple of days ago. She should be back today, and I want to be there the moment she arrives to ask her and take her to the hospital for an examination."
The moment he finished speaking, Mr. Xu was overjoyed. He immediately declared, "This is the most important family matter! Don’t worry about the meeting. You can go home right now!"
"And no more guessing. The moment you pick up Xiao Rui, take her straight to the hospital for an examination. Go to the best one, and don’t waste any time!"
Xu Yingying had struggled with infertility. She had taken all sorts of medications and endured countless injections trying to have a child, but had never succeeded.
Although she was now divorced from Wen Tao and disillusioned with love, that didn’t mean she disliked children.
"Ye Feng, don’t you worry about the company! I can handle it. Your primary mission right now is making a baby."
Ye Feng chuckled lightly. "You two don’t need to be so worked up. Having children is a matter of fate. If one is meant for us, it will come sooner or later."
Mr. Xu looked at him with longing eyes. "Ye Feng, your grandmother and I aren’t getting any younger!"
That one sentence left Ye Feng speechless. He quickly nodded. "I’ll do my best. I’ll try!"
Ye Feng drove back to Jinshan Bay himself, arriving just around noon.
There was no one home to cook, and Ye Feng didn’t feel like eating alone, so he went straight to the ornamental fish farm.
The ornamental fish farm wasn’t far from the docks, so they would be the first to know the moment a boat came ashore.
Yang Jianguo, who had just finished lunch, brewed a pot of tea for Ye Feng. "It’s a workday, Ye Feng. What brings you over? Is everything alright?"
